Asset allocation, diversification and rebalancing do not ensure a profit or protect against loss in declining markets. Some or all alternative investments may not be suitable for certain investors. Certain alternative investments carry significant risk and are not subject to the same regulatory oversight as mutual funds and other traditional investments. For these reasons, access to alternative investments may be limited to investors who are designated as sophisticated, high-net-worth investors. Neither Merrill Lynch nor its financial advisors provide tax, accounting or legal advice. Clients should review any planned financial transactions or arrangements that may have tax, accounting or legal implications with their tax and legal professionals. Merrill Lynch offers a broad range of brokerage, investment advisory (including financial planning) and other services. There are important differences between brokerage and investment advisory services, including the type of advice and assistance provided, the fees charged, and the rights and obligations of the parties. It is important to understand the differences, particularly when determining a service or services to select. Equity securities are subject to stock market fluctuations that occur in response to economic and business developments. There are special risks associated with an investment in commodities, including market price fluctuations, regulatory changes, interest rate changes, credit risk, economic changes, and the impact of adverse political or financial factors. Hedging and monetization strategies can result in higher return potential but also higher loss potential. Prospective investors are required to meet certain qualifications and acknowledge they understand the risks associated with certain hedging and monetization strategies that may not be suitable for all investors. Helping to take the emotion

out of financial decisions Often, a certain degree of emotion—both positive and negative—accompanies the acquisition and management of significant wealth. It brings a set of complex challenges. We help you confront and understand these challenges by establishing a clear, goal-based wealth management strategy designed to help you determine—and then pursue—your financial objectives. Although we view ourselves, first and foremost, as problem-solvers, there is far more to wealth management than that. We are committed to helping you invest and strategize the way institutions do: with a focus on economics, in order to help you make rational decisions about managing your wealth. Your goals may include purchasing a retirement home, caring for an elderly parent or funding your grandchildren’s education. Or maybe you want to support a worthy cause or wish to leave a legacy for your children. Whatever your goals may be, we can help you determine strategies designed to help you move toward pursuing them.

The foundation of our

investment approach While some advisors may help clients structure portfolios to mirror the market in terms of both potential returns and exposure to risk, we have found that this approach can expose investments to levels of market volatility that clients may find uncomfortable. In addition to causing clients undue stress on a personal level, this type of investing may also potentially result in a long-term loss of capital. At The Tyler Group, we believe it is important to help you structure the core of your portfolio in such a way that it is designed to mitigate downside risk while simultaneously positioning it to take advantage of the possibility of positive returns in the long term. We work with you to develop actively managed, global and flexible investment strategies and pinpoint well-respected investment managers to implement them. We recognize that each investor’s personal circumstances, goals and constraints differ, and may recommend diversifying your portfolio by incorporating private equity funds, commodities or hedge funds. At least once a year—more often, when necessary—we review your portfolio with you and recommend rebalancing, as needed, in order to help keep

it aligned with your strategy.

Using research to identify and

evaluate potential investments When seeking potential investment strategies that align with your wealth management objective, we search both within and beyond the bounds of Merrill Lynch. We rely primarily on the research supplied by BofA Merrill Lynch Global Research for in-depth information on stocks, bonds, global economics and investment strategy. In addition, we speak regularly with the analysts of the Investment Management & Guidance Group, who perform rigorous due diligence on third-party products, services and asset managers. Whenever possible, we personally interview the portfolio managers under consideration before adding them to our investment roster. This helps us get a clearer sense of their firms’ resources and management style. We also utilize The RIC Report, published by the Merrill Lynch Research Investment Committee. This monthly digest highlights significant strategic and tactical investment themes and provides asset allocation guidelines. Then we analyze factors such as assets under management, growth potential
