Dear Parishioners and Friends of Our Lady of Fatima, The Second Sunday of Lent speaks to us of the journey of faith and transformation. A 2000-year tradition points to Mount Tabor in the Jezreel Valley, 11 miles from the Sea of Galilee as the site of Jesus’ transfiguration. We are familiar with the story how Jesus traveled with Peter, James and John. They climbed a high mountain and at the summit Jesus was transfigured before them. His face changed in appearance and his clothing became dazzling white. Jesus was found conversing with Moses and Elijah representing the Law and the Prophets of the Old Testament. He spoke to them about his own Exodus in Jerusalem. Peter was incredulous, “Master, it is good that we are here; let us make three tents, one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah. A voice then is heard in the heavens, ‘This is my chosen Son; listen to Him!’” The Scripture readings this week continue the theme of faith journey. They invite us to take the journey of faith that demands sacrifice and leads to glory. In that journey we separate ourselves from our selfish desires in order to give of ourselves to fully to others. Faith is never just a word or formula but a way of life, a journey to a goal, a journey of sacrifice, a journey to share in the Lord’s glory. Is this not what our Lenten journey is all about? Also, you may have noticed that we are changing the altar bread we use during Mass. Bread is a very important eucharistic symbol and our hope is that these new hosts will help you focus on Christ, who is present in the Eucharist: body, blood, soul and divinity. El segundo domingo de Cuaresma nos habla del viaje de la fe y de la transfiguración. La tradición de 2,000 años señala el Monte Tabor en el valle de Jezreel, a 11 millas del mar de Galilea, como el sitio de la transfiguración de Jesús. Estamos familiarizados con la historia y cómo Jesús viajó con Pedro, Santiago y Juan subieron una montaña alta y en la cumbre Jesús se transfiguró antes ellos. Su cara cambio de aspecto y su ropa se convirtió en blanco deslumbrante. Jesús fue encontrado conversando con Moisés y Elías que representan la ley y los profetas del Antiguo Testamento. Entonces se oye una voz en los cielos que dijo: éste es mi hijo elegido: Escúchenlo” Las lecturas de la Escritura de esta semana continúan el tema del viaje de la fe. Nos invitan a que tomemos el viaje de la fe que exige sacrificio y nos conduce a la gloria. En este viaje nos separamos de nuestros deseos egoístas para darnos nosotros mismos completamente a los otros. La fe nunca es solo una palabra o una fórmula sino una manera de vida, un viaje a una meta, un viaje de sacrificio, un viaje para compartir en la gloria del Señor. ¿Qué esto no es el significado del peregrinar de Cuaresma? También, quizá se hayan dado cuenta que hemos cambiado el pan que usamos durante la misa. El pan es un símbolo eucarístico muy importante y nuestra esperanza es que las hostias nuevas les ayuden a enfocarse en Cristo, quien está presente en la Eucaristía en cuerpo, sangre, alma y divinidad.

Lenten regulations / as regulaciones para la cuaresma • Everyone 14 years of age and older is bound to abstain from meat on all Fridays of Lent. • Everyone who is at least 18 years of age and not yet 60 is bound also to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. • On the two days of fasting only one full meal is allowed. Two other meals may be taken, but together they should not equal another full meal. Meat is not allowed. Eating between meals is not permitted, but liquids are allowed. • Where health or ability to work would be seriously affected, the law does not oblige. • In order to deepen our love of Christ, Catholics are encouraged to: participate at daily Mass, pray more fervently, give generously to religious and charitable work, do some act of penance and self-denial, especially regarding alcoholic drink and social entertainment. • A las personas de 14 años de edad o mayores les obliga la abstinencia (no comer carne) todos los viernes de Cuaresma. • Quienes ya cumplieron 18 años hasta los 60 años de edad les obliga el ayuno el Miércoles de Ceniza y Viernes Santo. • El ayuno consiste en una comida fuerte y dos ligeritas y no comer nada entre comidas; sólo se permite beber líquidos. • A las personas con problemas de salud no les obligas estas reglas. • Para amar más a Cristo, los católicos están exhortando a participar de la misa diaria, orar mas fervientemente, dar generosamente para obras religiosas y de caridad, practicar voluntariamente del ayuno, penitencia y abnegación, especialmente en lo relacionado con las bebidas alcohólicas y entretenimiento social.

parish news and events Second Week of Lent – CRS Rice Bowl/ Segunda semana de Cuaresma – CRS Plato de Arroz Getting Healthy in East Timor/Ayudamos a recuperar la salud en Timor Oriental CRS Rice Bowl invites us to learn about East Timor this week, where tuberculosis is a major health crisis. CRS works in communities where access to medical care is limited. This week, we pray for families in East Timor and give to CRS Rice Bowl to help people who are struggling with illness. Your prayers, fasting and almsgiving this Lenten season will help Catholic Relief Services continue to provide life-saving assistance in nearly 100 countries. CRS works on our behalf to care for the poorest in our world and to end global poverty. Ministry Opportunity At some point we all experience difficulties in our lives such as the loss of a loved one, sickness, unemployment, divorce or aging. Stephen Ministers are lay people who are trained to care for individuals who are hurting. They provide emotional and spiritual support in a Christian and confidential manner in a one-to-one relationship. A training class for new ministers is currently forming. Free Income Tax Preparation at OLF/ Servicios de Income Tax Gratis Our parish is providing no cost tax preparation services for all households earning less than $51,000 per year. You may be eligible for certain tax credits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit or Credit for the Elderly or Disabled (short form only). This service will be available on Saturday mornings from 9am to noon and on Tuesday afternoons from 4pm to 6:30pm in McGowan Hall, room E. An appointment is not necessary but encouraged. Support Our Military Families San Clemente Military Family Outreach (SCMFO) is sponsoring a school supply drive for San Onofre School in north Camp Pendleton. This spring morale event fulfills wish lists of critically needed items for each teacher and classroom. Look for the red collection box at the ocean entrance. A list of needed items is posted on the box. All items must be received by March 17. SCMFO supports military families in north Camp Pendleton by providing emergency assistance for groceries, infant diapers & formula, infant & kids clothing, and gas & car repairs. Tax ID 95-2402620.

Catholic Mens Fellowship Meeting THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 28TH, 7:00 - 8:30 PM Join us as we prepare for the celebration of Christ’s saving death and resurrection at Easter, when He opened the door to eternal life. May our Lenten journey together help us to walk through that door in union with Jesus, the Christ, our Lord. We are an informal group of men who discuss topics about faith, fatherhood, and fraternity through Catholic eyes. We meet in McGowan Hall on the 2nd and 4th Saturday morning of each month and the 2nd and 4th Thursday evening also. Around the Diocese Junior High Youth Ministry On February 2nd, Our Lady of Fatima Middle School Youth Ministry set their souls on fire with the spirit at the Diocese of Orange Middle School Youth Day at Knott’s Berry Farm. The day started out early in the morning with a bus ride to Buena Park. It was such a blast to ride all of the rides and spend time with friends! The day ended with dinner at the Wilderness Dance Hall where the middle school youth learned how they can set the world on fire with Christ’s love. It was by far one of the best experiences had by the OLF Middle School Youth Ministry!
