WELCOME THE VISITING MADONNA While we are encouraged to embrace Jesus’ cross, perhaps the next best thing we can do as the faithful is to turn to the Blessed Mother for guidance…”Blessed Mother, please help me.” As human beings, we can’t do everything. But the Blessed Mother can go to her Son Jesus and do wonders. The Knights of Columbus are offering intimate prayer devotions in your own homes to all parishioners so that every family may experience visitation for one week from our Visiting Madonna. Families will begin to experience a sense of peace, quiet and reflection while saying the Rosary as a family with Our Lady. The family that prays together stays together. If you are interested in participating in welcoming the Visiting Madonna, please call Sam Konrad at (843) 399-7003 or email him at [email protected]. A Prayer for Hurricane Season O God, Master of this passing world, hear the humble voices of your children. The Sea of Galilee obeyed your order and returned to its former quietude; you are still the Master of land and sea. We live in the shadow of a danger over which we have no control. During this hurricane season, we turn to You, O loving Father. Spare us from past tragedies whose memories are still so vivid and whose wounds seem to refuse to heal with the passing of time. O Virgin, Star of the Sea, Our Beloved Mother, we ask you to plead with your Son on our behalf, so that we are spared from the calamities common to this area, and animated with a true spirit of gratitude, we will walk in the footsteps of your Divine Son to reach the heavenly Jerusalem where a storm-less eternity awaits us. Amen.

PROPAGATION OF THE FAITH WORLD MISSION SUNDAY

My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Saint John Paul II spoke about World Mission Sunday as a day when the Church faithful make an offering to God for distribution to the missionaries of the world. “The offerings that will be collected are destined for a common fund of solidarity distributed, in the Pope’s name, by the Society for the Propagation of the Faith among the missions and missionaries of the entire world.” Every year the needs of the Catholic Church in the Missions grows; new dioceses are formed, new seminaries are opened, long suppressed areas now open to hear the gospel message of Christ and areas devastated by war or natural disasters are rebuilt. The involvement and commitment of Catholics around the world is so urgently needed. Approximately 1,100 missionary dioceses receive assistance from this vital fund. In our Diocese, the Office of the Propagation of the Faith has been actively involved in mission work in Fiji and Nigeria. This summer Msgr. Lofton helped to install a dedication plaque in the newly completed church in the village of Nasalesele, thanks to your generosity. The village of Nawi will see construction begin on a new church after their old sanctuary was torn down because of severe deterioration. Again, your generosity made this possible. I urge all the faithful in the Diocese of Charleston to be active participants in the World Mission Sunday offering. Vatican II in the document, Ad Gentes, reminds us that the Church is never more Church than when it is in mission. Your offering on World Mission Sunday will allow you personally to be a missionary for Christ. In the Lord’s Peace, Most Reverend Robert E. Guglielmone Bishop of the Diocese of Charleston.

Padre Orlando.
