DESCRIPTION OF COMMUNITY SUMMER DROP-IN PROGRAMS
Description of Community Summer Drop-In Programs Green Shack playground program (ages 6-12) Join in games, sports, crafts, music, drama, and theme days every weekday, 5 days a week, for 3 .5 hours each day! Children under the age of 6 are welcome as well but must be supervised by a parent or guardian at all times . Find a calendar of planned activities on the side of each Green Shack each week . If there’s a game you’d like to play, just ask the Program Leader!
Flying Eagle (ages 6-12) This program visits various Green Shack playground program sites each week of the summer (same location and time as Green Shack) .
Pop Up Play program (ages 6-12) Join in games, sports, crafts, music, drama, and special events 2 days a week for 3 .5 hours each day! Children under the age of 6 are welcome as well but must be supervised by a parent or guardian at all times . If there’s a game you’d like to play, just ask the Program Leader! Look out for the colourful Pop Up Play flags flying at a green space near you .
Youth Hub (ages 13-17) This program offers a variety of activities such as art, sports, just hanging out, skateboarding, and much more! Come and go as you please . Is there something you’d like to try? Let the Youth Hub staff know and they will try to make it happen . Every Thursday, we’ll travel from the Youth Hub via public transit to a central location for a city-wide youth event .
The Flying Eagle program gives participants the opportunity to learn more about Aboriginal cultures and heritage through games, crafts and other recreation activities .
Playground Features
Some programs are hosted at a playground with special features, such as:
Accessible Playground
Water Play Site

You will see many different summer staff in your Community Programs this summer . Everyone plays a slightly different role so to help you understand who does what, our staff will be wearing different coloured shirts . Please feel free to stop by and chat with any of them!
Water Play Leaders (Yellow T-Shirt) You’ll see these staff at district Water Play sites . They provide basic supervision to ensure participants stay safe .
s Program July 2 to 25 August
Youth Program Leaders (Orange T-Shirt) You’ll find them at our Youth Hubs and skateboard parks .
Leader In Training Volunteers (Green T-Shirt) These amazing youth volunteers are gaining new skills and practicing their leadership abilities . See page 15 for more LIT information Supervisors (Red T-Shirt) They are responsible for working with our program staff to ensure that summer programs meet City of Edmonton standards .
