Preschool Programs PRESCHOOL T-BALL - F.A.S.T. Athletics Let’s take a walk through the fundamentals of America’s favorite pastime. The children will learn the basic skills in fielding, throwing, hitting, and base running. In addition, they will play games such as home run derby, last one standing, and running bases. This is an easy introduction into t-ball where learning and skill development are our priorities. Town Park (behind Town Hall) Ages: 2.9-5 Saturdays, 7/11-8/15 6 weeks 9:00-9:45a.m. Fee: $75 PRESCHOOL SOCCER - F.A.S.T. Athletics Our soccer program will teach the fundamental skills of dribbling, trapping, shooting, and passing by teaching them in a very nontraditional and energetic way. Not only will students learn the rules and positions of one of the most popular games in the world, but they will have the chance to scrimmage each other as well as have shoot outs, breakaways, and one on ones! Town Park (behind Town Hall) Ages: 2.9-6 Saturdays, 7/11-8/15 6 weeks 10:00-10:45a.m. Fee: $75 DANCE/TUMBLE - Millis Dance Theater This popular, cheerful class includes the fundamentals of ballet and creative movement through imaginative dance, then on to basic tumbling. Students go through our gymnastic circuit of mini-trampoline, low balance beam, forward and backward rolls, beginning cartwheels, etc. This fun beginner class is presented in a positive, age-appropriate manner. CREATIVE DANCE - Millis Dance Theatre Children will learn the basics of dance including age appropriate ballet and jazz choreography set to spirited music. The class will focus on creative expression through open-ended movement such as dancing with ribbons, scarves, hula-hoops, etc. This popular, lively class is offered to students who have danced before as well as those with no prior experience. Attire: Comfortable clothing, (leotard and ballet slippers optional). Our emphasis will be on creative expression. Students will dance with ribbons, scarves, hula-hoops, dress up with tutus, etc. This popular class is the best of both worlds; an introduction to ballet as well as fun, imaginative exercises that will offer children the opportunity to enjoy music and dance. The program teaches basic skills and concepts in an imaginative, safe environment. Following United States Tennis Association’s 10 and Under Tennis model, children will quickly develop their skill base and understanding of the game. US Sports Institute’s tennis professionals will lead a variety of games and activities to maximize participation and enjoyment on the court. During each session, coach will provide simple instruction and demonstration that each player can easily replicate and learn from. On occasion parents may be asked to assist their child in order to increase success, and promote learning, all while having lots of fun! Youth Programs MILLIS SWIM TEAM - Millis Recreation Department This is a great opportunity to try a new sport, improve your swim stroke, make some friends and have some fun! While the summer league is a competitive league, emphasis will be placed on promoting good sportsmanship and team spirit, while providing an environment for the individual swimmer to improve overall fitness and build self-esteem. The Millis Swim Team is open to swimmers of all abilities ages 7-18. Practices take place at Glen Ellen Country Club beginning the end of June. Practices are generally 7:50 – 8:50 a.m., Monday thru Thursday. Meets are generally held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. The entire meet schedule is available online at www.millisswimteam.com. Registration fee includes shirt and swim cap. VOLUNTEER COACHES NEEDED!!!!! SUMMER CHESS WORKSHOP - James Dellaselva Chess is a game of skill based on scientific principles which can be taught at a very young age. Students will explore and practice basic chess theory. The course will consist of instruction; play and group work on chess problems and games. Students will receive a trophy upon completion of the program. MOHAWK BASKETBALL WEEK - Tom Ingraham This program run by the former Millis High School Boys Varsity Coach will focus on skills. Team concepts reinforced. Free T-Shirt, written review of individual performance and skills, two games each day, and equal participation make this program a must for the basketball enthusiast. Bring a lunch and water bottle. Millis Middle/High School Gym Grades 4-9 GIRLS: 6/23-6/26 (4 days) Fee: $140 BOYS: 7/6-7/10 (5 days) Fee $175 8:45 am-3:00 pm MINI-MOHAWK WEEK - Tom Ingraham These three days will be an opportunity for the youngest Mohawk stars of the future. Players will be instructed on the basics of shooting, passing, dribbling, rebounding and defense. The emphasis will be on fun, learning and skills. Players should bring a water bottle and a snack. Millis Middle/High School Gym Entering Grades: 1-3 June 29, 30, July 1 3 days 9:00 am-12:00 pm Fee: $75 TENNIS LESSONS - Tom Ingraham Instructional tennis lessons provided by a Millis High School tennis coach. LEARN TO SKATE - Norfolk Arena Learn to skate is for all ages and levels. We follow the US Basic Skills Program. Our goal is to provide a fun and safe skating experience for the beginner and more advanced skater. We offer a 25 minute lesson and then 25 minutes of practice. *Learn to play hockey skaters have to know how to skate forward and backwards and full equipment is required. Athletics Super Sports Program. F.A.S.T. Athletics will offer a variety of sports each day such as: Soccer, Basketball, Flag Football, Dodgeball, Baseball, and Kickball. Programs will include proper stretching and warm-up games, as well as learning basic skills of each sport. Each class will end with a high energy game with the sport played that day. AROUND THE WORLD - F.A.S.T. Athletics This program is a unique competition with various sports/games played from around the world. The first day will be a trial for each event teaching the students how to play each game and the remainder of the program will be a skill competition where the students will be testing their skills in; cricket, bocce, archery, handball and dodgeball. If you are tired of playing the same old traditional sports and want to learn some new and exciting games, this is the program for you! Minimum of 12 enrollment. Town Park (behind Town Hall) Ages: 8-12 7/20-7/24 5 days 9:00 am—12:00 pm Fee: $125 FLAG FOOTBALL GAME PLAY - F.A.S.T. Athletics F.A.S.T. Athletics will teach everyone game strategies, catching techniques and most importantly how to work together as a team. The students will be able to participate in different situational games such as Red Zone Defense, 4th and inches, and The QB Challenge as they learn the importance of fair play. Each class will end with a simulated game broken down into 4 quarters—the coaches will have tons of plays ready to go for their teams! Town Park (behind Town Hall) Ages: 8-12 7/27-7/31 OR 8/3-8/7 5 days 9:00 am — 12:00 pm Fee: $125 BALLET/JAZZ - Millis Dance Theatre This is a perfect class for students who respect the traditional beauty of ballet but also crave the up-beat, contemporary style of jazz dance. We will focus on the graceful flow of movement and elegant posture as well as freedom of movement, flexibility and fun funky choreography. This class is the best of both worlds! JAZZ/HIP HOP - Millis Dance Theatre Students learn both Jazz and Hip Hop in one class! Jazz, a contemporary dance style, emphasizes coordination and flexibility, rhythm and musicality. Hip Hop with its popular urban-influenced style will focus on freedom of movement and individuality set to today’s current and sometimes “edgy” music. This is a very fun, upbeat class that requires no prior experience. Attire: Comfortable clothing, (leotard, dance pants & Hip Hop sneakers optional). Classes are co-ed. This camp is ideal for players at all levels or experience. In case of rain, camp will be held at Metro West Sportscenter’s indoor facility based in Ashland. Millis Town Park Ages: 7-12 Session I – 7/27-7/31 9:00 am – 12:00 pm 1 week Session II – 8/17-8/21 9:00 am – 12:00 pm 1 week Fee: $150 per player for 1 session; $250 per player for 2 sessions. ACTING/WRITING/DIRECTING FOR THE STAGE – Arlene Lagos

Is your child destined to be a star? Maybe a director? How about a writer? This workshop will teach them everything from how to perfect their monologues, dialogues, stage presence, and movement to directing, lighting and writing of scripts. This is a great time for children to feel out their strengths and be able to take control of the performance. By the end of the program we will put on a show that will be entirely run by the children! Maximum of 12 participants. Do you think they yearn to write an incredible story and have it come to life? In this class your child will learn about plot, theme, highlights, character building, subplots, and other key story elements. By the end of the class we hope to have an anthology of stories from all the children that can be brought home as a keepsake! Maximum of 15 participants. Does your child seem destined for the stage or screen? Wouldn’t it be great if they could take an acting, dancing, writing, singing and crafts class all in one place, at an affordable price? Now they can! Instructor Arlene Lagos has written, acted, and directed for the stage and screen in NYC, Hollywood, Charleston, & Boston. She has an Associates in Dance Education from Dean College, a BS in Developmental Psychology from Suffolk University and is a published author. She has worked as a camp counselor for the Town of Franklin and run a summer theatre program for teens at South of Broadway in Charleston, SC.  This summer, send your child to Camp Hollywood where they can learn it all!  Sign up for one or all of the sessions! ROCKETRY – Carl Geden Are you fascinated with the science of rockets? Students are instructed in rocketry basics through a hands-on program with rockets. Different types of rockets are discussed and demonstrated. Each participant builds and launches different types of rockets, such as air and water powered, as well as black powder rockets. The students keep the rockets they construct, which include a launch pad, controller and batteries. Memorial School, Rm 124, 16 Cassidy Lane, Medway Grades: 5+ July 20-24 5 sessions 10:30am-12:00pm Fee: $135 PHYSICS FUN – Carl Geden The science of physics is fascinating and fun! Each day involves a different science topic which include experiments with Liquid Nitrogen to demonstrate the effect of extreme temperatures on objects, exploring electricity with simple circuits, static electricity and mini lightning bolts, magnetism and magnetic levitation, and the effects of gravity, sympathetic vibration and buoyancy in nature. Students also participate in optical illusions, soap bubble science and science tricks and keep all the projects they build. Memorial School, Rm 124, 16 Cassidy Lane, Medway Grades: 5+ August 17-21 5 sessions 10:30am-12:00pm Fee: $135 SUMMER SPEED AND READ – Bryan Rezzuti Available to all kids entering grades 1-8: increase athleticism through dynamic warmup/stretching, agility and speed drills while preventing summer reading regression. Speed and Read Camp offers parents the opportunity for their children to complete their Millis Public Schools Summer Reading while improving athletic performance. 45 minutes of athletic movement followed by 45 minutes of reading time. Bryan Rezzuti is dual certified as Elementary Education (gr.1-6) Teacher and Moderate Special Needs (K-8) Teacher and will conduct reading comprehension checks and reading fluency assessments on each camper. Rezzuti has been an assistant football coach at various colleges and high schools for the past 17 years. KUNG FU KIDS -Wu Xing Kung Fu In Kung Fu Kids we learn to become more aware of our bodies and minds by playing fun games and exercising in ways designed to challenge and reward students for giving their best effort. We teach exciting animal moves, kicks and punches while we work on our listening, focus and confidence. We let kids express themselves in a fun, supportive environment while also learning respect, manners and tolerance for each other. We get stronger in mind and body, all while having a great time! SWIMMING LESSONS AT THE GLEN

Sessions I June 22—July 2 (8 lessons) Session II July 6—July 16 (8 lessons) Session III July 20—July 30 (8 lessons) Session IV Aug 3—Aug 13 (8 lessons) PLEASE INDICATE TIME/WEEK/SESSION WHEN REGISTERING Fee: $130—Members $155—Non-Members Water Babies (Ages 6 months to 3 years) A half-hour of fun for the parent/adult and baby. The parent/adult will be instructed on appropriate holds, safety skills and the creative “how to’s” of getting your baby more water friendly. Participants will be introduced to and learn basic water skills, such as bubble blowing, front float and arm paddling. Monday—Thursday 10:00-10:30 am Starfish (Pre-School A) An entry level class for children with little or no water skills. The child must be 3 years old. Children will focus on general comfort ability in the water, submerging their head and blowing bubbles, floating on their back and kicking. Monday—Thursday 9:00-9:30 am OR 9:30—10:00am OR 10:00—10:30 am Starfish II (Pre-School B) For children who have started to swim independently with or without support. Children will focus on bobs, floating, kicking on their front and back in streamline position, and swimming with their face in the water. Monday—Thursday 9:00—9:30 am OR 9:30—10:30 am OR 10:30-11:00 am Rays (Level 2) Children must be proficient in all the skills learned in the previous levels. Children will focus on kicking with a kickboard for extended lengths, kicking on their back in the streamline position, and start swimming the front crawl. Monday—Thursday 9:30—10:00 am OR 10:00—10:30 am Stingrays (Level 3) Children must be proficient in all the skills learned in the previous levels. The main objective of this level is to introduce complete strokes. Children will focus on swimming front crawl with alternate breathing, back crawl and elementary backstroke. Monday—Thursday 10:00—10:30 am OR 10:30—11:00 am Sharks (Level 4) Children must be proficient in all the skills learned in the previous levels. Children will focus on learning the breaststroke, as well as streamline kick on their back using flutter, breast, and dolphin kicks. They will also work on swimming already learned strokes (front crawl and back crawl) more efficiently and for greater distances. Monday—Thursday 9:00—9:30 am Dolphins (Level 5) Children must be proficient in all the learned skills in the previous levels. The final level of our swim program will focus on learning the butterfly, diving, as well as continued perfection of the front/back crawl and breaststroke. Monday—Thursday 9:00-9:30 am

All participants are instructed from start to finish in the creation of a summer landscape. A different painting will be featured each session.
