2015 Summer Enrichment Programs
2015 Summer Enrichment Programs General Information The Office of Family and Community Engagement is pleased to offer 4 weeks of enrichment programming in July for students entering grades K – 12 in September 2015. Our Programs will operate daily Monday through Friday for the following weeks at Cedar Elementary School and Hanover High School:
Session 3: July 20, 2015 – July 24, 2015 Session 4: July 27, 2015 – July 31, 2015 Classes are offered according to the grade your student w ill be entering in September 2015. Please refer to specific class descriptions for the respective grade levels, class times and fees.
Registration Procedures • All classes are filled on a first-‐come, first-‐serve basis. • Please DO NOT make payment for a class until you have received email confirmation from our office. (Pre-‐payment does not guarantee your student a spot in an enrichment class.) • Confirmations of enrollment and payment information will be sent via email once the minimum student enrollment requirement for each class is met. • Bi-‐weekly updates of class status will be sent via email beginning Monday, March 16, 2015. • Payments will be due on or before the first class of each session. • A 20% sibling discount will be offered to those families w ho have 3 or more students enrolled in the same program. • Classes that do not meet the minimum enrollment requirement will be cancelled one week prior to the start of the program. • Non-‐Hanover student registrations will be considered after June 1, 2015 pending class space availability. Withdrawal/Refund Policy Should you withdraw from a program, you must do so at least 5 business days prior to the start of the program to receive a full refund minus a $10 administrative fee. Refunds will not be granted after the start of the second class except for medical reasons supported by a doctor’s note. Refunds may take 4-‐6 weeks to be processed.
Extended Care Option Extended care w ill be available daily: 8:00am – 9:00am and 2:30pm – 5:00pm at a rate of $7 per hour, per student Please note that these are the only available times for extended care. Students MUST be enrolled in a summer enrichment program that allows them to directly transition to or from the hours listed above. There is no extended care available between the hours of 9:00am – 2:30pm. Students enrolled in both morning and afternoon programs will be supervised during their lunch break by Office of Family and Community Engagement Staff. Please be sure to sign up for extended care hours on the online registration form. Daily Student Needs • All students should dress in comfortable clothing and appropriate footwear. • Students should bring a snack and water bottle daily. • Students enrolled in a full day of programming must bring their own lunch. • Please apply sunscreen and bug spray before arriving at the program! • Our staff is CPR & First Aid trained as well as designated EpiPen administrators. • Please note, a registered nurse will be on site from 8:00am – 3:30pm daily. Other medical needs will be addressed as needed. In the event of Inclement Weather, all outdoor programs will be moved indoors to Hanover High School or Cedar Elementary. We will do our best to accommodate all programs however, cancellation may be necessary due to space constraints.

Young Reporters
Students will learn the basics of the news business as they work together to create their own newspaper. 8:30am -‐ Students will report 11:30am and write articles, take pictures or create illustrations and use desktop publishing software to layout their work. Art Exploration
During this session, students will explore a variety of art techniques including: 12:00pm Watercolor painting, -‐ 3:00pm drawing techniques, modeling clay and model magic design, 3-‐ D sculpture and much more.

Wearable Art Get your fashion on! Students will design and create a myriad of wearable art such as: T-‐Shirts, flip-‐flops, bags from recycled T-‐ Shirts, bracelets, hats, pins, headbands and more!
Hanover Track Club Mr. Paul Economos and Mrs. Lisa Porzio Hanover Middle School Teachers/Coaches Join the Hanover Track Club for a summer of fitness and fun! Students will experience the value of staying fit while developing a strong knowledge base of running, long jump, shot put and javelin. Through varied coaching techniques, as well as individualized instruction, all athletes will be guided to do their best and challenge themselves in a mix of short and long distance running and a variety of field events. Students will feel personal satisfaction and success as they transition through many field activities and races. Sessions 2 - 4 will offer a multi-age, multi-town track meet (optional) on Wednesday evenings. All participants are invited and encouraged to attend each weekly event, regardless of which session they attend. Families are invited to attend and cheer on their athlete(s). Times and locations will be announced. Please note, all evening meets are held in neighboring local towns. We will also offer 2 community track events at Hanover High School. Dates TBD.

Little actors will enjoy our special summer workshop for incoming K-1. Come join your favorite storybook monster. When our actors combine creative movement, art and drama every monster turns into a lovable friend! Unleash the creative energy in your child and introduce them to the wonderful world of dramatic play as only Drama Kids can deliver. ! During this week, students will explore the well-known and familiar stories we have all grown to love. But just when you thought you knew them, our actors will throw you for a loop, as they add their own creative spin to their favorite tale. Students will find a new character within themselves, as they participate in short plays, comic impovs, silent scenes, and humorous mini-scripts. All are sure to live “happily ever after" as they take the rewritten stories from the page to the stage. A magical time will be had by all!
Movie Genres Over the course of 5 days, our actors will explore many movie genres, such as comedy, action, horror, time travel and more. Each day students dive into a different genre through an exciting array of theater games, improvisational exercises, ensemble-building activities and performance opportunities. Students will explore the craft of performing as they work in groups to create their own genre movie shorts for an end of week performance sure to please!
Drama Kids Playhouse will develop your creative abilities as you learn to work together to write, produce and act in your own performance. Movie Makers Ms. Colleen Smith, HCTV Station Manager and Mr. Matt Beren, HCTV Production Coordinator Ever wonder how a movie is produced? In this program, students will learn just that. From concept to completion, students will do it all. They will brainstorm ideas, write a detailed script, film, act and edit until their project is complete. This class will emphasize the preproduction aspects of movie making, where students will learn to write a proper script and story board their project. Stop Motion Ms. Colleen Smith, HCTV Station Manager and Mr. Matt Beren, HCTV Production Coordinator During this workshop, students will have the chance to create their own individual stop motion videos. Using flip cameras and iMovie, students will create a fun and entertaining project they can call their own. Each project will be unique to the student. Yoga for Kids Mrs. Caitlin Melone This class is designed especially for kids to experience the benefits of yoga in a fun, supportive and creative environment. Through dynamic poses and exciting balances, we will discover our strength, increase our flexibility and encourage a greater sense of selfacceptance and body awareness. Breathing exercises and relaxation techniques will be introduced to help increase focus and quiet busy minds. We will use partner poses, group games and music to encourage positive peer interaction. A great class to meet new friends and experience new things!

Summer Tennis with the South Shore YMCA at Hanover High School
Tennis anyone? Certified instructors from the South Shore YMCA Tennis Department will help students discover the thrill of playing this lifetime sport. Students will learn the basics of tennis through a combination of drills, games and match play. Skills are taught using the latest progressions and age-appropriate equipment, with a fun-filled tournament at the end of the week. Come ready to play and have fun! Equipment required: Appropriate attire and footwear, tennis racquet and a refillable water bottle.

Irish Step Dancing Irish Step Dancing developed from traditional Irish dancing and is performed solo or in groups. Dancers stiffen their upper bodies while performing quick intricate footwork. Two types of shoes are worn; jig shoes, which create sounds similar to tap shoes and soft shoes similar to ballet slippers. Beginner dancers usually start out with the soft shoe, working their way into the more intricate jig shoe dances.
Beginner Dancers' Class: Students will learn the basic techniques such as: Turn Out & Crossed Feet Being High on the Toes Timing & Travel Arms & Stiff Upper Body Drills designed for the Irish Step Dancer Beginner Reels and Jigs and Ceili dances (4 or 8 dancers that dance as a team)

Come to class prepared with plenty of water - this is a great workout! Girls: Ballet slippers, socks, or dance sneakers if you have them and wear something comfortable to dance in. Boys: Socks, shorts and wear something comfortable to dance in.
About the Instructor: Kristyn Grattan Kristyn is a World Champion Irish Step Dancer and has been dancing for 14 years. She currently trains at the Brady Kenny O’Brien (BKOB) School of Irish Dance in Hanover’s Riley Hall on Silver Street under the instruction of World-renowned choreographers - Rose and Michael Kenny. She has performed in many arts festivals, shows and competitions nationally and internationally. Her talents in Irish dance have earned her numerous awards at the regional, national and world championship level of competitions. In 2012, Kristyn was ranked one of the top 20 Irish dancers in her age group in the World. Kristyn will be representing the New England Region at the upcoming World Championship competition in Montreal this spring. Kristyn is a sophomore at Bridgewater State University and is studying in the field of Health Sciences. She is also a member of the Track and Field team at Bridgewater State.

Students will learn the basics of industrial design theory while using a Makerbot printer to build their own 3D objects. Get strong this summer! This program will meet three times a week to teach students how to enhance their athletic performance through strength training. This 6-‐week course will challenge athletes to maximize performance in their own sport or for personal fitness education in a supportive and safe environment. Training will take place in both the HHS weight room and on the HHS track/turf.
