Dear Parishioners and Friends,

God does not promise us a life without storms, but He does promise that he will always help us pass through them. The storm that the disciples experienced on the lake (Mark: 35-41) allowed them to discover the mystery of Jesus deeper. Who is Jesus? There is nothing that helps us discover the presence and power of Jesus, more than difficult situa ons. On one hand, we are experiencing great anguish, but on the other - we feel very close to God. Our prayers during calm mes are like dus ng old furniture with a feather duster. But when a black cloud of danger appears on the horizon prayer turns into breaking down the doors of heaven. If you constantly experience storms in your life, rage from people with whom you work or live, high winds destroying all hope that you me culously tried to build for years, maybe it is because you neglected the essen al: prayer! Angry seas, lightning and fire and windstorms were the plagues that historically fell upon mankind when it turned away from God. Noah's genera on was flooded with water, the genera on of Sodom was plagued by fires and the genera on of the Tower of Babel was ravaged by windstorms. The wisdom of the rabbis saw in these three plagues three messages from God warning humanity about disregard for the love our Creator Jesus' disciples learned a lesson to rediscover him. Lethargy in our spiritual life is a great danger for human existence. Jesus was in a place where one needs to steer, but the disciples let him sleep. This expresses humanity's languid a en on in our everyday lives and ac ons. I think of our world, which recently experienced a huge tsunami, fires of the towers on Manha an, and hurricanes devasta ng the coast. How many of us experience a true spiritual awakening a er these signs? Only God can calm the elements, and we s ll believe we can navigate this world alone. Lack of faith brings excess fear into our lives. Think about your life's storms. Where is God when you plan your day? If you constantly experience destruc ve storms maybe you ask where is God when it all happens to me? If you want calm down the storms inside and outside of you, awake your conscience and call for Jesus! Make Him the center of your a en on, and announce to your soul He is the King! But if you con nue to treat Him only as the "mascot" of your spiritual life, you will become a vic m of forces that will overwhelm you with their power and cannot be handled without God. To all our dear children who have already started their vaca on, Have a res ul summer. Remember that regardless of where you spend your me away from school there are no holidays from God and talks with Him, that means prayer! God Bless!

Drodzy Parafianie i Przyjaciele,

Bóg nie obiecuje nam życia bez burz, ale obiecuje nam, że w naszych burzach zawsze będzie z nami. Burza, która zdarzyła się uczniom na jeziorze (Mk:35-41), pozwoliła im jeszcze głębiej odkryć tajemnicę Jezusa. Kim właściwie On jest? Nic tak nie pomaga nam odkryć obecności i mocy Jezusa, jak sytuacje trudne i krytyczne. Z jednej strony przeżywamy wtedy wielką trwogę, z drugiej – czujemy się bardzo blisko Boga. Nasze modlitwy w czasie spokoju przypominają odkurzanie starych mebli piórkową miotełką. Ale gdy na horyzoncie pojawi się czarna chmura niebezpieczeństwa, modlitwa zamienia się w wyważanie drzwi do nieba. Jeśli więc zdarzają ci się nieustannie kłopoty, burze życiowe, fale wściekłości ludzi, z którymi pracujesz albo żyjesz, wichry niszczące całą nadzieję, jaką skrupulatnie wznosiłeś latami, to być może dlatego, że zaniedbałeś to, co istotne: modlitwę! Wzburzona woda, ogień błyskawic i gwałtowny wicher były to trzy plagi, które spadały na ludzkość, kiedy odwracała się od Boga. Pokolenie Noego zostało zalane wodą, ogniem z nieba zostało ukarane pokolenie Sodomy, a wichrami zostało rozrzucone po świecie pokolenie wieży Babel. Mądrość rabinów widziała w tym trzech wysłanników Bożego ostrzeżenia za lekceważenie miłości do Stwórcy. Lekcja, którą otrzymali uczniowie, zdarzyła się chyba po to, by odkryli na nowo Jezusa. Ospałość w życiu duchowym to wielkie niebezpieczeństwo dla ludzkiego istnienia. Jezus był w miejscu, w którym steruje się, ale uczniowie pozwolili Mu zasnąć. To wyraża naszą ospałą uwagę w codziennym naszym życiu i działaniu. Myślę o naszym świecie, na którym zdarzyły się już wielkie tsunami, pożary ogromnych wież na Manha anie, huragany niszczące wybrzeża. Ilu z nas obudzi się ku prawdziwemu przebudzeniu duchowemu po tych znakach? Tylko Bóg może uspokoić żywioły, a my ciągle uważamy, że sami sobie poradzimy z żeglugą przez ten świat. Brak wiary sprowadza nadmiar trwożliwego lęku. Pomyśl o swoich burzach życiowych. Gdzie jest Bóg w twoim planie dnia, skoro żyjesz w lęku i raz po raz zdarzają ci się niszczące wszystko burze? Może mówisz: gdzie jest Bóg, skoro mi się to zdarza? Jeśli chcesz, żeby wszystko się uspokoiło na zewnątrz i wewnątrz ciebie, to przebudź swoje sumienie i zawołaj do Jezusa! Umieść Go znowu w centrum swojej uwagi, intronizuj Go i ogłoś go w swojej duszy jako Króla! Jeśli zaś dalej będzie On tylko „maskotką” twojego życia duchowego, staniesz się ofiarą sił, które swoją potęgą cię przerastają i nie poradzisz sobie z nimi bez Boga. Wszystkim naszym drogim dzieciom i studentom, którzy rozpopczęli już swoje wakacje życzę miłego wypoczynku. Pamiętajcie, że niezależnie od tego gzie przebywacie, nie ma wakacji od Boga i rozmowy z Nim, czyli modlitwy! Szczęść Boże!

T

he formal Parish Transforma on process that began at St. Constance Parish in January of 2014 was part of an archdiocese-wide ini a ve designed to make good parishes be er by building upon their strengths and addressing their weaknesses. As it was described to the St. Constance Parish Transforma on steering commi ee in January of last year, the typical implementa on me is eighteen months, and we are now winding down on this me frame. As such, these weekly Parish Transforma on ar cles will soon be concluded, with only periodic updates going forward. We will give an in-depth recap next week concerning our work under the building blocks of Catechesis, Communio (a profound sense of community), and Missionary Spirit, but we want to remind everyone now that our new Hospitality Ministry--which fits under the Communio building block specifically--kicked off in May and is in need of support (here, one or two Hospitality Ministers posi oned at each of the five entrances into the church greet/welcome people to weekend Mass; volunteers are asked to arrive at least fi een minutes before the scheduled Mass and pick up a Ministry of Hospitality badge from the ushers’ room). In an cipa on of the approaching 100-year anniversary of St. Constance Parish, you are invited to purchase from the "Tree of Life" a leaf on which you can place the names of your loved ones: parents, siblings, rela ves, friends, parishioners, priests, nuns, etc. Both the living and the dead can be named, so that their memory will last forever. You can have your own name on a leaf or choose to name your family. Proceeds from this project will be used for repairs of the church parking area and parish buildings. There are both large and small leaves on the "Tree of Life". For the engraving and moun ng of each small leaf, the dona on is $250.00, while for each large leaf it is $400.00. The number of leaves is limited and there may not be enough for everyone. Please visit the rectory office to complete all necessary transac ons.

CONGRATULATIONS TO DEACON RUDY KOTLEBA ON HIS 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF DIACONATE ORDINATION

May God bless you on this milestone of devotion and service! May you always feel God’s presence as you reflect his love to all! Thank you for your dedicated service to the faithful community of St. Constance parish! Congratulations! I was born in Slovakia, survived through the Communist persecu on of the Catholic Church. I escaped in1952 leaving my parents an four brothers behind without any knowledge of my whereabouts. A er working in Austria I finished my studies in Italy where I taught un l 1956. A er arriving in the USA, I learned English and con nued to teach in five states and ended up in New Orleans in 1962. A er receiving a degree from Xavier University I became a ci zen in 1964. I came to Chicago in 1967 to get closer to my grandparents and started to teach at St. Igna us College Prep where I re red a er thirty years. Shortly a er my arrival in Chicago I met Eleanore and we were married in 1968, 47 years ago in the old St. Constance Church. We were parishioners of St. Constance Church when our pastor, Fr. Mar n Borowczyk, asked us to enter the Diaconate program. I was ordained Deacon on April 28, 1990. A er my ordina on we were very much involved in youth ministry at St. Constance. We were then invited by Father Jesse Carero to join him at Holy Family and to con nue our diaconate ministry. We both thank you for your support and for allowing us to con nue our ministry at St. Constance where I fill in when I am needed for funerals, wakes, homilies, Sta ons of the Cross, Mercy Chaplet, CCD subs tute, and St. Nicholas. We also serve at Holy Family Church. Our special thanks for support and prayers go to our own family, our daughter Felicia-Marie Nicosia, her husband, Len Nicosia and their children, our grandchildren, Mike, Jessica, and Kayla .

The goal of the R.E.P. is to provide religious and liturgical educa on; develop faith concepts and moral forma on; teach prayer to the children. YOUNG-AT-HEARTS Young-at-Heart Members 45th Celebra on was one of Wonderful Memories. "Thanks to the Lord - this is the day the Lord has made - and let us rejoice and be glad." (In memory of Cardinal George - this is his favorite Scripture). Thanks to our dear Pastor, Father Ted and Pat Pomykalski, Marie Blecka and Monsignor Podeszwik for our Mass, Homily and songs. Thank you also to the wonderful women in the office, Agatha, Nancy and our dear Principal, Eva. Our luncheon was catered by Jolly Club. Our Super Helpers were school moms including Anna Grzegrczyk and Bobgusia Szot. Thank you so much to Sharon Malen for serving and direc ng traffic. y wife and I are back a few weeks now from a wonderful European vaca on that took us through parts of Germany, the Czech Republic, Austria, England, and Wales. We saw some amazing sites and we have the pics to prove it. I wasn’t snapping any photos on the morning of our last full day there, however, because that’s when I was compe ng in a half-marathon in Cor on, England. Located in the Shropshire area, Cor on’s about four miles east of Craven Arms and seven miles north of Ludlow, which puts it about three hours northwest of London. And it was the star ng point for my latest 13.1 mile adventure: the (aptly named) Shindig in the Shire. We took off--without much fanfare--from the parking lot of the Sun Inn, a local brewery pub. I’ve run countless organized races in ci es large and small, and they have all been wonderfully organized. So was this event, but it had a much looser feel to it. For one thing, less than two hundred athletes competed (compare that to the 45,000 runners signed up for this year’s Chicago Marathon). For two things, bacon bu es were being served right up un l race me. And for three things, when I asked the woman checking me in for the exact star ng line loca on, she smiled and said, “On the other side of the bar.” I expected nothing less for a race organized by “How Hard Can It Be” Events. “It’s a bit ‘illy up there,” a tea-and-scones merchant had told me a few days prior when he asked what was bringing my wife and me into the area. It was a bit ‘illy up there, OK, with one long, steep hill through forest land at the eight mile mark that was crazy tough. Not long a er I crested it, the course dropped to lower-al tude forest land with a narrow trail and mud everywhere. And somewhere along this trail I realized that I was leading about twenty runners not far behind. As I always do across difficult terrain with runners behind, I used my hands to signal obstacles ahead (like mud down here, or tree branches up there). And before long, I heard a woman maybe fi een feet back say to her running partner, “Nice of that chap to show us the way…” Over my nearly twenty years of wri ng this column, I’ve o en been amazed to see or hear things that fit precisely with whatever I’m wri ng about. This may be the Twel h Sunday in Ordinary Time, but it’s also Father’s Day, and what could be more appropriate than the woman’s comment at the Shindig in the Shire? “Nice of that chap to show us the way…” In today’s Gospel, Jesus says to his disciples, “Let us cross to the other side.” And so over the Sea of Galilee they go, but Jesus falls asleep, and the storms hit. Good fathers everywhere lead their sons and daughters into dangerous waters. Helping them to ride that first bicycle. Showing them how to ski down that slope, change that re, wire that electrical box. “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” the disciples cry. But good fathers bring their children safely home, one way or another. Like my dad did for me. Probably like your dad did--or is doing--for you. “Nice of that chap to show us the way…” Indeed. Happy Father’s Day.

hoć Dzień Matki jest naprawdę znanym świętem, Dzień Ojca już nie za bardzo. A przecież powinno być sprawiedliwie! Dzień Ojca, Święto Ojca czy też Dzień Taty, wszystkie te nazwy określają jeden dzień w roku podczas którego oddaje się cześć i honor dla wszystkich ojców. Celem święta jest szczególne uhonorowanie ojców i podkreślenie ich roli w wychowaniu dzieci. Zdaniem psychologów, tata wprowadza zasady, wytycza granice, uczy wykonywania obowiązków i ponoszenia konsekwencji. Stanowi dla dziecka model do identyfikacji i naśladowania, zarówno dla syna, jak i dla córki.

Święto to narodziło się w Stanach Zjednoczonych w 1910 roku z inicjatywy mieszkanki miejscowości Spokane która chciała w ten sposób uhonorować swojego tatę (który samodzielnie wychowywał szejściorgo dzieci). W USA "Dzień Ojca" został oficjalnie uznanym świętem dopiero po 14 latach, a stała data (trzecia niedziela czerwca) została ustanowiona dopiero w 1966 roku. W Polsce Dzień Ojca obchodzimy co roku 23 czerwca. Dziękuję, że znosiłeś to, Czego nie sposób było znieść, Że robiłeś coś z niczego, Że dawałeś, mając puste kieszenie, Że wybaczałeś, choć nie przepraszalismy, Że kochałeś, gdy kochać się nie dało, Pamiętaj, że Twoje dzieci sercem są zawsze z Tobą, Sercem pełnym miłości i wdzięczności. Wszystkiego Najlepszego z okazji Dnia Ojca!

SERDECZNE GRATULACJE DLA DIAKONA RUDY KOTLEBA Z OKAZJI 25 ROCZNICY ŚWIĘCEŃ DO DIAKONATU STAŁEGO Diakon Rob Kotleba pochodzi ze Słowacji. Bap sms… We celebrate Bap sms in the English language on the first and third Sundays and in the Polish language on the second and fourth Sundays of each month. Parents must par cipate in a Bap smal prepara on mee ng before a date can be scheduled. To register for a mee ng call the rectory secretary. Weddings… The Archdiocese of Chicago requires arrangements for weddings be made four months in advance. We at St. Constance strongly recommend at least six months before the date of marriage. You will need to meet with our deacon / priest before any other arrangements are made. Call the rectory for an appointment. Sacrament of the Sick… Call the Rectory to make arrangements for a priest. Please do not wait un l the person is unconscious or near death. Communion Calls… If you or someone you love are ill or home bound and would like to receive Communion, call the rectory to make arrangements for regular visits.

Chrzty… Sakrament Chrztu Świętego jest udzielany w języku angielskim i polskim. Chrzty w języku angielskim są w pierwszą i trzecią niedzielę, a w języku polskim w drugą i czwartą niedzielę każdego miesiąca. Rodzice są zobowiązani do wzięcia udziału w spotkaniu przygotowującym do tego sakramentu przed planowaną datą chrztu dziecka. Prosimy o skontaktowanie się z biurem parafialnym, aby zgłosić dziecko do chrztu. Sakrament Małżeństwa… Archidiecezja Chicago zaleca, aby osoby, które planują zawarcie sakramentu małżeństwa zgłosiły się do biura parafialnego co najmniej cztery miesiące przed datą ślubu. Chcielibyśmy i usilnie zalecamy, aby w naszej parafii okres przygotowania trwać sześć miesięcy. Prosimy, abyście najpierw ustalili termin w kościele, a następnie w innych miejscach. Zapraszamy więc do naszego biura parafialnego najwcześniej jak tylko jest to możliwe . Sakrament Namaszczenia Chorych… Prosimy o kontakt z księdzem w celu ustalenia terminu przyjęcia tego sakramentu. Przypominamy, że nie wolno zwlekać z udzieleniem sakramentu chorych do momentu kiedy osoba będzie nieprzytomna lub bliska śmierci. Komunia Święta dla chorych… Jeśli ktoś z was lub waszych bliskich choruje i chciałby przyjąć Komunię Świętą, to prosimy o zgłoszenie osoby chorej do biura parafialnego, do osoby odpowiedzialnej za Duszpasterstwo chorych, aby ustalić datę odwiedzin w domu.
