SUMMER ARTS CAMP 2005 FOR RISING KINDERGARTNERS TO 12 YEAR OLDS

D

AC Summer Arts Camps are offered in four 2-week sessions. We find this gives parents plenty of flexibility for planning family summer activities. The 2-week sessions also provide our instructors time to give children an in-depth arts experience. Many children like to attend all eight weeks so we give each session its own unique theme. Each session’s class projects

revolve around these themes so projects are always different! Summer Arts Campers in the 7 & 8 and 9 & 10 year old camps may also choose “art tracks”.These are divided into a Performing Arts track, a Visual Arts track, and a Mixed Arts track. Students may choose to take different “tracks” each session to get an even more comprehensive experience in the arts.

SESSIONS AND THEIR THEMES Session A: June 6 – June 17 / Prehistoric Passage

Session C: July 5 – July 15 / Fifties Frolic

Join us on a Jurassic journey through time to the age of the dinosaurs! Investigate the lives of the dinosaurs and ancient reptiles that once roamed in your backyard. We will travel on to the age of prehistoric man and an exploration of the first drawings, paintings and sculpture created.

Take a trip to the fabulous fifties! Come rock around the clock with us on a voyage through the days of poodle skirts, penny loafers, hula hoops and soda shops. We will look at the art and culture of the 1950's including the Abstract Expressionist and Pop Art movements. We will explore the works of artists such as Jackson Pollock and Roy Lichtenstein among others.

Session B: June 20 - July 1 / Medieval Masquerade Session D: July 18 – July 29 / Future Fantasy Welcome all ye lords and ladies of the manor! You are about to embark on an exciting voyage to the land of castles, kings, queens, knights, princes and princesses. Create art projects and performances inspired by the art, architecture and culture of the Middle Ages.

Rocket off to the future! Let your imagination soar as we explore the possibilities in the future through art.Where will the computer age lead? What will be the next wave of the future? We will look at art and culture through a whole new perspective and visualize the direction that our changing world will take.

CREATIVE KIDS CAMP FOR K - 6 YEAR OLDS Although the drop off time for Summer Camp begins at 8:00am, we've found that 8:00am 2:00pm can be a long day for young children. Therefore, an 8:45 - 9:00 am drop off is recommended for the K-6 age group. Please plan to stay with your child until 9:00 on the first morning or two. Younger campers often need a little support from their parents in a new situation such as this. 18

We are pleased to offer once again our popular Creative Kids Camp for K-6 year olds. The Creative Kids camp is separate from our 7-12 year old camps to ensure an environment that is tailored to meet the needs of younger children, including small class sizes, and varied activity periods. The Creative Kids Camp schedule will include frequent breaks for snacks, stories, lunch, and games that will give younger children a well-paced and engaging experience.
