Second Sunday of Lent

March 16, 2003

Second Sunday of Lent Years ago, a nun in our school took the last minute or two of class and had the students summarize the lesson in short phrases or single words. We would jot them down in our notebooks to remind us of the lessons that day. They were invaluable memory joggers and acted like information triggers when we were quizzed the next day.

SUNDAY, March 16 ~ Second Sunday of Lent 7:30 am Otillia & Howard Dike by Margaret Thiel 9:00 am Albert Torok (Ann.) by Marjorie Mikula 10:30 am Joseph & Anna Manchak by Mary Manchak 12:00 pm For Our Parish Family

The Rosary is a summary of the Gospel that presents events seen through the eyes of the Blessed Mother, or events in the life of Jesus. We see salvation unfold, for us and for the whole world, and are given a pattern to follow Him. In his Apostolic Letter, Rosarium Virginis Mariae, the Pope announced the Mysteries of Light. They are the Baptism of Jesus in the Jordan, His self-manifestation at the wedding of Cana, His proclamation of the Kingdom of God, His Transfiguration, and His institution of the Eucharist. We reflect on the ministry of Jesus that shows the grace of God breaking into human history.

MONDAY, March 17 ~ St. Patrick 6:30 am Edward Kvasnica by Mr. & Mrs. William Kvasnica 8:25 am Anna Karczynski (Ann.) by Husband John & Children

Pray the Rosary this Lent and remember all that Jesus said and did for our sakes. Make the Gospel a real part of your own history so that in new and profound ways you will become a living Gospel, a reminder to others of God's Plan for us all.

STMS SCIENCE FAIR

The Saint Thomas More Science Fair was held on February 18, 2003. Over 170 students in fourth, sixth, and eighth grades participated in this annual school competition. Science is an integral part of the STMS curriculum, and the Science Fair is an eagerly anticipated event. The Fair provides students with an opportunity to transform scientific theory into practical results. From bridges and balloons, to photosynthesis and volcanoes, the experiments and displays were creative, unique, and informative. Perhaps some future scientists were inspired by their efforts. Students received awards for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Places, for Honorable Mentions, and for Participation.

All of the 1st Place winners from the 8th grade will be competing in the Regional Competition to be held early this Spring.

First Place Winners from the 4th, 6th, and 8th grades are listed alphabetically: Tony Belmonte, Evan Gentile, Angela Gonzalez, Walter Kasprzycki, Katherine Klyczek, Patrick Kozlowski, Brianna Krajewski, Jacob Krismanick, Scott Kucharski, Tony Liszewski, Angelique Mercier, Greg Meyer, Natalie Moya, Kate Novak, Erin O’Shea, Kelly O’Shea, Kyle Papesh, Pat Speranza, Christopher Wadlow, and Christopher Yothment.
