Sixth Sunday of Easter — May 13, 2012 FR. JOSEPH’S CORNER I want to thank those who gave of their time and talents to clean up after the storm last Sunday. The tree is cut down and the branches off the parking lot. Three simple things help to create a good and healthy parish. It is people who pray, play and work together. It is basic human relationship with one another and with God. Another important element for a successful parish is direction. We need to know where we came from and where we are going. It is vital that the parish has a plan. I spoke about this to the members of the Parish Pastoral Council when I became the Administrator. As St. Bernadette is going to celebrate her Golden Jubilee, it would be appropriate to look back on the past 50 years and see what was accomplished and give new ideas of what needs to be done to keep this parish vibrant with the presence of the Holy Spirit and spreading the Good News. One way to do it is through a parish survey and door to door visit. Fifty years ago the pioneers went door to door to invite people join the parish. We have to repeat this during our Golden Jubilee year. Personal interaction of those living within the parish boundaries and the survey will help us develop a good five year plan. This plan is needed as it is part of the Meitler project. In a way we do not have a choice. I am counting on the members of the Parish Council to lead in this effort and I know members of the School Board of Education, Men’s Club, Altar Society, the Evangelization and Faith Formation committee, the deacons, the Finance Council, the Building and Grounds Committee, the Adorers from Eucharistic Adoration and all of you will make this a success. Remember that the parish belongs to you. We priests we come and go. It is the involvement of each one that makes the parish great. So let us come together and prepare a five year plan that would help do strategic planning for the next fifty years of our Parish under the Protection of our Patron. St. Bernadette pray for us.

Eucharistic Adoration Please sign up for an hour of adoration. It is a great time to be with Jesus and the saints. During that hour you can talk to God about your life, pray for the members of your family, pray for the parish, pray for the Church and the country. You can read the Bible, say the rosary, do the Stations of the Cross, say your favorite prayers. The hour goes so fast. Try it and experience more peace and joy. Here are some of the spiritual benefits of adoration for our Parish: - an increase in Mass attendance and reception of the sacraments; - return of fallen-away Catholics and increase in the number of conversions; - increase in religions and priestly vocations; - renewal of Catholic family life; - spiritual level of the people is raised with a resulting desire and courage to spread the “good news” to others; - a greater community spirit, centered as it is on the heart of the parish, Jesus’ presence in the Blessed Sacrament.

EPS Bellevue Baby Bottle Campaign provides free pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, counseling, and prenatal and newborn-care classes for young women who are experiencing unplanned pregnancies. More than 100 women are helped at the Center each month. Many babies are saved from abortion by the help their mother receives at EPS Bellevue. Baby Bottles will be available for pick up the weekend of Mother’s Day. Please be generous in contributing to their continued success by taking a Baby Bottle and filling it with love, prayers, coins, bills or a check and return the bottle to St. Bernadette on Father’s Day, June 17th. Sidewalk Prayers at the Bellevue Abortion Clinic Every Saturday at 7:45 a.m., a small group of people gather outside the Bellevue Abortion Clinic. They pray four rosaries requesting our Lady of Guadalupe’s prayers and intercession. There is no verbal contact made with the people entering the abortion clinic. Trained counselors are on hand to offer help and ultra-sounds at EPS next door. No sign-up or commitment is needed – anyone is welcome to just show up and pray. There is strength in numbers, so many more people are needed. It is known that peaceful sidewalk prayer has indeed led mothers and abortion clinic employees to have a change of heart. Parking is available across the street to the east at EPS (formerly Woman’s Touch).

Food for Thought More Than A Mother When God set the world in place, when He hung the stars up in space, when He made the land and the sea, then He made you and me. He sat back and saw all that was good, He saw things to be as they should. Just one more blessing He had in store; He created a mother, but whatever for? He knew a mother would have a special place to shine His reflection on her child’s face.

A mother will walk the extra mile just to see her children smile. She’ll work her fingers to the bone to make a house into a home. A mother is there to teach and guide, a mother will stay right by your side. She’ll be there through your pain and strife, she’ll stay constant in your life. A mother will lend a helping hand until you have the strength to stand.

She’ll pick you up when you are down, You’re more than a mother to me; when you need a friend she’ll stick around. a reflection of Him in your face I see, A mother is one who listens well, a love that knows no boundaries. will keep her word; will never tell. I’m glad that you chose to be A mother never pokes or pries all this and more to me. but stands quietly by your side, You share a love that knows no end, giving you the strength you need, you’re more than my mother, encouraging you to succeed. you are my friend. A mother is one who can be strong when you need someone to lean on. ~ Kari Keshmiry
