~ WORSHIP SERVICE ~ APRIL 5, 2015 ~ ~ EASTER SUNDAY ~ NURSERY CARE AND CHURCH SCHOOL Babies and children of all ages are invited, welcomed and encouraged in worship services. We have a basket in the narthex filled with children's worship activities to use during the worship service. We have a nursery available for newborns and toddlers for your convenience. The nursery room is staffed with two volunteers who would be happy to care for your child while you attend worship. You may drop your children off in the nursery room at 9:45 a.m. and pick them up immediately following worship. All children aged three through 12 are invited to go to church school following the TIME WITH THE YOUNG. SILENT MEDITATION "The Peace Symbol,” so often associated with the hippie movement of the '60s or with the modern hip-hop music world as a casual way to say goodbye, ("Peace Out"), actually has a more high-minded religious and ethical origin. It was invented by Herbert Holtom, a dedicated peace-maker in England. In the late 1950s he worked hard for nuclear disarmament and realized that the navy semaphore signals for the letters N and D were flags angled down, and flags straight up and down. Combining the two, he came up with the modern “Peace Symbol.” Being something of an art historian, Holtom also liked that the symbol mimicked Goya's masterpiece, "The Third of May,” depicting a Mexican peasant pleading in front of a firing squad with arms outstretched, reminiscent of Jesus' crucifixion. Holtom's symbol made its public debut during a peace march in London, England, on Easter, 1958. As we celebrate Easter 2015, we see a world still entrenched in the ways of war and revenge. This year, may our witness to the resurrection inspire our finest peace-making with heart, mind and soul, helping the true spirit of Jesus to remain alive.

*HYMN (CH) # 216 Christ the Lord Is Risen Today

*UNISON PRAYER OF INVOCATION L: The Lord be with you. P: And also with you. L: Let us pray. ALL: In the beginning was the Spirit of Life. And it was good and abundant and powerful and playful and full of itself. It splashed and splattered here, there and everywhere, sharing its lushness, its generosity, its beauty, its flesh-ness, its love. And wherever it went it perpetuated itself. Let us, on this holy Easter, believe that the powers of death do not win. That the Spirit of Life, by its holy nature, continues beyond and within, forever. Amen.

*THE LORD’S PRAYER (trespasses)

GLORIA PATRI Glory Be To The Father and To The Son And To The Holy Ghost. as It Was In The Beginning, is Now And Ever Shall Be; world Without End, Amen, Amen. TIME WITH THE YOUNG PRAYER OF PASTORAL CARE AS WE CONTINUE OUR WORSHIP NOW IS THE TIME TO LISTEN TO GOD’S WORD

*HYMN #234 Crown Him with Many Crowns

SCRIPTURE LESSONS UNISON READING OF PSALM 23 (King James version) The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: And I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever. SELECTED VERSES FROM ALL FOUR GOSPEL EASTER STORIES SERMON

*DOXOLOGY Praise God, from Whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen PRAYER OF DEDICATION

SACRAMENT OF HOLY COMMUNION WORDS OF INVITATION *UNISON PRAYER OF CONFESSION Most loving God, we confess that we have seen much pain without being moved to compassion. We have begged forgiveness from others, while hoarding our own charity. We have gathered our own tranquility at the expense of peace of others and creation. Lord have mercy, Christ have mercy, Lord have mercy upon us. Amen. ASSURANCE OF PARDON LITANY OF PREPARATION L: God be with you. P: And also with you. L: Lift up your hearts. P: We lift them up to God. L: Let us give thanks to God Most High. P: It is right to give God praise and thanks. L: Therefore, with all the communion of saints we praise, P: Holy, holy, holy, God of love and majesty, the whole universe speaks of Your glory. PRAYER OF CONSECRATION WORDS OF INSTITUTION (It is our tradition to partake in unison.) Communion this morning is in the form of intinction, as a way to emphasize our active willingness to serve the Lord. Intinction means “to steep” and is practiced when you take a morsel of bread and dip it into the cup. Please come down either side aisle and partake of a piece of bread and dip it into the cup as a sign of the Body and Blood of Christ; then return to your seat via the center aisle. *UNISON PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING We thank you, God, for inviting us to this table where we may experience Christ and receive his gifts. Strengthen our faith, increase our love for one another, and let us show forth your praise in our lives; through Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen.

*HYMN

Lord of the Dance (Words by Sidney Carter, music to the tune of Simple Gifts) I danced in the morning when the world was begun, and I danced in the moon and the stars and the sun. and I came down from heaven and I danced on the earth. At Bethlehem I had my birth. Refrain Dance, then, wherever you may be: I am the Lord of the Dance, said he. And I’ll lead you all wherever you may be; and I’ll lead you all in the dance, said he. I danced for the scribe and Pharisee, but they would not dance and they would not follow me: I danced for the fishermen, for James & John; they came to me and the dance went on. Refrain I danced on the Sabbath when I cured the lame, the holy people said it was a shame: They whipped and they stripped and they hung me high; and they left me there on a cross to die. Refrain I danced on a Friday and the sky turned black; it’s hard to dance with the devil on your back They buried my body and they thought I’d gone, but I am the dance and I still go on. Refrain

They cut me down and I leapt up high. I am the life that’ll never, never die: I’ll live in you if you’ll live in me: I am the Lord of the Dance, said he. Refrain
