April 20th – Easter Sunday of The Resurrection of the Lord An Easter Message—

How important is Easter? St. Paul puts it bluntly: “If Christ has not been raised, your faith is vain; you are still in your sins. Then those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished” (1 Corinthians 15:17-18). Amazing, isn’t it? We place our faith in someone who lived twenty centuries ago; someone whom we have never seen in the flesh. And yet, we not only remember that Jesus died on the cross. We hold in faith to the other side of the mystery: on that first Easter, the heavenly Father raised Jesus from the grave—the Risen Christ, alive forever! We believe because, in one way or another, we’ve experienced his presence in our lives—changing us, transforming us, and energizing us in his love.

And what is our most important Easter symbol? Not the lilies, nor even the Easter Candle! No, the most significant Easter symbol are our “neophytes”—that is, those newly-baptized at the great Easter Vigil, and our other new members of the church. They are called to testify by the example of their lives that the Risen Christ has raised them up in the saving waters of baptism. Their daily example is to show the world that Christ, indeed, has risen from the dead. In fact, all of us are called to be Easter symbols! To a world aching for meaning…to those in grief longing for hope beyond the grave: we are to show that the Risen Jesus is truly alive—within us and among us! Let’s savor not only this Easter Sunday but all the 50 days of Easter. By grace may Christ Jesus deepen the gift of faith and impel us to make vibrant his love in our lives! And so, I offer special congratulations to our newly-baptized “neophytes” and other new members of the church. I join with Bishop Steib, Father Robert, Deacons Bill Lifsey and Frank Williams, and all the Cathedral staff in wishing you and your loved ones a joyous Easter!

Christ is risen indeed, alleluia, alleluia!

Father Val Many Thanks Our Sacred Paschal Triduum celebrations would not have been possible without the contributions of time and talent by many who devoted themselves to “the Great Three Days” of the Paschal Mystery. We extend our thanks to all involved, especially... --Those who serve in our initiation process, as they prepare our new members through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults --Those who lift us up with beautiful music for all of our liturgies --Those responsible for worship planning and for beautifully decorating the Cathedral --Those Greeters and Ushers, Sacristans and Servers, Readers and Eucharistic Ministers for our liturgies --Our parish outreach to those in need, especially through our St. Vincent de Paul Society, our Haiti Ministry, and our volunteers for the Dorothy Day House of Hospitality --Those who minister to the sick and homebound so faithfully --All of our teachers and administrators at Immaculate Conception Cathedral School and in our parish religious education programs for our children and adults --All of our Cathedral Staff and benefactors View this bulletin online at www.TheCatholicDirectory.com
