• You are permitted to marry in the Cook Islands if you are 21 years and over. Anyone under the required legal age must have the written consent of their parents or legal guardians. • All weddings in the Cook Islands are legal and recognized internationally. Citizens from Northern Hemisphere countries however, are required to register their marriage in their own country with their own authorities. • Wedding couples are required to be in the Cook Islands and apply for their marriage license in person at least 4 working days before their intended wedding date. If wedding couples wish to register and marry in less than the required 4 days, a waiver application must be made by the wedding coordinator prior to the couple’s arrival. There is also an additional charge of NZ$50 for the waiver to be processed. • Wedding couples must bring their birth certificates and if either are divorced or widowed, then they must bring their divorce decree and/or death certificate. 2

Frequently Asked Questions

What documentation will we obtain for proof of our marriage? Once you have registered your Intent for Marriage Application Form with our High Courts, you will have the papers processed and prepared to be signed on the date of wedding. This is handled by the officiating minister/celebrant and the license you sign at the ceremony is for your record, which is also presented with your official marriage certificate 2-3 days after the ceremony takes place. New Zealand & Australian residents only require these two documents. Should you reside elsewhere, you will require an Apostle stamp which can be arranged through your wedding coordinator. Where do you hold your weddings? All Edgewater Resort & Spa wedding ceremonies and receptions are held onsite. The ceremony can take place either on our resort beachfront overlooking the lagoon, or should weather not be at its best, we do have our private Umu

Hut area. Both areas capture the gorgeous sunsets as we are located on the Western side of Rarotonga. What is the best time to get married? Most couples choose to hold their ceremonies towards the later afternoon. From 4pm to 5.30pm are the more popular times, which allow the sunset to come through in time for photographs. We are able to hold weddings anytime during the year. I want to come and view the property and wedding sites, do I need to make an appointment? An appointment is required to ensure that you are able to gain access to the property and to meet with a Wedding Planner to discuss all your details necessary to make your special day run flawlessly and to answer any questions that you may have. How far in advance can I book my wedding? There is no restriction on how far in advance you can book your wedding date. However we do recommend that you let us know what date you are looking at as we only do one wedding a day (Monday to Saturday) and if the date is important to you then we recommend that you let us know, so we can tentatively hold this date for you. As a resort policy, a 30% deposit is required to secure that date.

What is the rain policy for the resort? If the forecast for the day of your wedding is 40% chance of rain or more, a decision must be made up to 3 hours prior to the start time of the ceremony on the date of the wedding to move any outdoor functions to the back up location. Once the decision is made, set up cannot be changed to the alternate location. How long do I have the reception room for? Reception pricing is based on 4-5 hours of the reception and cannot last longer than 11pm. How do I hold the date? To begin, you must first contact us with the date and location in mind, to check for availability. From that point the the wedding consultant will send through our Wedding Kit and Planner form information. You will be required to complete the wedding planner form and to secure the date, you will be required to submit a 30% deposit based on the Wedding Package that you choose. Do I have to use your vendors or can I bring in my own? We do have a recommended vendor list however you are welcome to use your own vendors - as long as they are registered to work in the Cook Islands. We do strongly recommend using vendors that are familiar to The Edgewater Resort & Spa. If you use your own vendors then any meetings or follow-ups etc are the responsibility of the couple.

A home away from home, each villa has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large modern kitchen, spacious living area and laundry facilities. Our villas are all fully serviced every three days and fresh towels supplied daily. Max number of adults and children is 6.

Garden Villas

The Edgewater Water Resort & Spa offers 26 threebedroom self-contained family Garden Villas. Each Cook Island villa features a full kitchen, breakfast bar, fridge/freezer, four-burner stove with oven, dining suite, laundry facilities, air conditioned living area and outdoor furniture. The master bedroom has a walk-in wardrobe, en-suite bathroom with shower and toilet and is fitted with a king-sized bed.

Accessible Villas

Villas 19 & 20 have been modified to offer all the space and facilities required to make your stay pleasurable. These villas are entirely located on ground level, are easily accessed by a vehicle and with parking at your front door make coming and going to explore the island an easy task. Each villa offers a full kitchen, dining suite, laundry facilities, air conditioned living area and outdoor furniture. The master bedroom has an en-suite bathroom with shower and toilet and is fitted with a king-sized bed.

All pricing is quoted in New Zealand dollars All prices are inclusive of government taxes (15% VAT) All prices are current at the time of print and are subject to change without notice The inclusions in all packages are on an availability basis A 15% surcharge applies for all wedding packages and additional options for weddings held on Sundays and Public Holidays If for any reason a service is not available at the time of your request, then we will endeavor to find the best alternative.

Deposits and Payment Terms •

A deposit of 30% of the total wedding package is required at the time of booking with full payment of the Wedding package and additional options due prior to guests check out of the hotel or within 24 hours after the completion of the wedding function and services.

Resort and Wedding Rules At the Edgewater Resort & Spa we welcome guests to have a good time and enjoy their stay, but we need to be sensitive to the needs of all our guests. For the safety, security and comfort for all we ask that: • • • •

Music & noise levels will be kept within acceptable levels. This may be monitored. If you have employed the use of a DJ, his volume level should not exceed 1.5 dB Wedding reception functions finish at 11.00pm. Once the Wedding function has finished, guests are asked to move across to the main bar area.

The main bar closes at midnight. Alcohol will not be served to intoxicated persons. No person under 18 will be served alcohol – ID maybe required. The Resort has quiet time between 12am – 7am
