GREETINGS FROM THE CATHEDRAL DEAN

The Resurrection of Christ is the cornerstone of the Christian’s religious viewpoint. There is no event in the history of mankind, which can match the brilliance, and the triumph of that event which occurred almost two thousand years ago. Because of Christ’s Resurrection, every baptized Christian who has committed his/her life to Jesus as Lord can say, “Christ lives, therefore I too shall live”. Since then, the human race becomes anew; redeemed and saved from the bondage of sin. He, Who broke the chains of Hades, grants eternal life. Thus, the climax of the redemption of the fallen man reaches its fulfillment, and the prophecies of the great men of the Old Testament become a reality. And here is where history records the victory of the Glorious Resurrection as the greatest of all world events and marks upon the conscience of man a testimony of a new faith never to be erased to the end of the world. That is why, speechless and unable to conceive the immeasurable and inconceivable love of God of us men, we dare in great humility to bow our hearts and our whole being and acknowledge our firm belief in this miracle of miracles, the glorious Resurrection of Our Lord, that sealed the destiny of man and gave him hope and life beyond his mortal grave. It is precisely this life, the life beyond the grave, that gives us the real joy and genuine gladness to proclaim in unison the eternal message of the Christian Faith: “Christ is Risen!” Therefore, on behalf of my family, and myself I greet each and every one of you with this glorious and blessed holiday. We pray to God that the grace of this Holy Day will illuminate all of you with its heavenly light. And may there be none amongst us who will not respond in the fullness of inner joy to the eternal joyous greeting – Christ Is Risen – with an equally joyous – Indeed, He Is Risen! Christ is risen from the dead, Trampling down death by death, Bestowing life to those in the grave. In Christ’s love, Father Stephan & Dobrodiyka Diana

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Come next week, we shall be greeting one another: Christ is Risen! Indeed He is Risen! This will give us the opportunity to commit ourselves to a renewed life in our faith as we celebrate the Bright and Glorious Resurrection of Our Lord, God, and Saviour Jesus Christ. At this time, I would like to congratulate the newly elected Parish Council for the 2016 year. I wish to express sincere gratitude for the confidence granted me to serve another year as your President. We have challenges before us. But your support of the new Parish Council gives us a real sense of appreciation for the work we do – and the confidence to challenge the obstacles we face. The decline in revenue, we hope, will improve with the many activities that are planned for the year. We have observed increasing interest from the public with numerous ethnic groups enquiring about renting our facilities. It is of utmost importance to have these facilities kept in good order, clean, and properly functioning. One upgrade that is a priority for us is replacing the overhead projector in the auditorium. The current equipment is over 5 years old and is slowly failing. This is most noticeable in that videos and slideshows no longer display clearly, and the quality will only continue to deteriorate. A high-definition projector will allow us to not only improve on the quality of media presentations, it will bring our facility up to speed with current technology and enable us to better meet the needs of patrons who require the use of our audio-visual system. On a different note, preparations for the 100th Anniversary will be ongoing for the next few years. If anyone has applicable pictures from the past, please share them with the office so they can be scanned for inclusion in the chronicle of Parish history. To our most treasured members, we truly appreciate your generous contributions and timely payments of membership pledges. You pledge to support your Parish every year with this contribution; in turn, we pledge to ensure our Cathedral remains in pristine condition for liturgies and other services – so that we may not only continue to grow our congregation but also carry on in service of your spiritual health. With Christian Love, Marshall Kachmar Parish President

They also assisted with serving tea and food to the attending guests at the Tea. Our members were both proud and excited to collect $290 in donations for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. We thank everyone who supported us in our fundraising efforts towards this most worthy cause! 19- In recognition of Heart month, members attended a Force Fitness class at Millenium Place to promote healthy living. After the class, more energy was burned in the gym playing basketball and badminton. 26- Monthly meeting followed by a “Fellowship in Faith” session lead by Father Cornell during which cymkivsti had the opportunity to ask questions about contemporary issues in today’s society. March No activity reported April 17- Monthly Meeting and Outdoor Walk to the Legislature and Kinsmen Park. 22- Pysanky Bingo- this evening was a lot of fun and proceeds made from the bingo were donated to the “Edmonton Food Bank” to help those less fortunate. Following this, all cymkivsti joined forces in an alms-giving activity which involved putting together care packages for people who use services at Hope Mission. Members then took a break and enjoyed a few games of bowling at Plaza Bowl and, to wrap up the afternoon, everyone returned to the church for a Lenten Dinner and fellowship. We thank the AB Provincial CYMK executive for organizing this event for Alberta cymkivsti. Sr. CYMK activities will continue until June and our members are looking forward to upcoming events. We would also like to gratefully acknowledge the financial support of both the Alberta Ukrainian Self-Reliance League and the Ukrainian Self-Reliance Association (Edmonton Branch) who have greatly helped us in our programming and planning. GUIDELINES FOR FELLOWSHIPS Fellowships are announced in the Sunday Church Bulletin and are for the entire congregation. These guidelines do not apply to private functions (i.e. memorial dinners, etc.) Any individual, family or organization (i.e. Cathedral Choir, U.W.A.C. St. John’s Branch, Edmonton T.Y.C., etc.) can book to sponsor a fellowship. Confirmation on the availability of the date, place (Auditorium, Solarium, Seminar Room or Cathedral Basement) and menu must be made in the office. The sponsor must be able to provide volunteers for the set-up, serving, and clean-up. Should the sponsor be unable to provide volunteers, the booking will be on the condition of the Cultural Centre providing needed volunteers. The cost of sponsoring a luncheon fellowship is $300.00. The food will be supplied by the kitchen. The sponsor has the option of having a simpler meal, i.e. donuts and coffee. The cost of the food and supplies will be charged to the sponsor. Should the kitchen be unable to supply the food, the sponsor has the option to host the fellowship in an available hall and supply their own food. Approved by Parish Council, April 13, 2016

Audio Visual (AV) System Upgrade – AUDITORIUM & SOLARIUM We are continuing our campaign in fundraising for an AV system addition to our solarium. This would include a high-definition projector and retractable screen, in a similar set up to our main hall, ideal for videos and slideshows for all kinds of functions. The time has come to do away with our portable classroom projector. It belongs in the seminar room, not in such a nice hall! In addition, as the auditorium system has seen significant use over the years, it requires an upgrade as well. A high-definition projector in this hall will give patrons the same level of superior video quality as the solarium! We are currently accepting donations to fund these projects. The upgrade in the Auditorium, and the Solarium addition are each expected to cost approximately $5,000. The cost of the projects will ultimately be offset by a rental fee that we will charge for use of the system. Any contribution to this improvement of our facility would be greatly appreciated.

If I knew If I knew it would be the last time I’d see you fall asleep, I’d tuck you in more tightly, And pray your soul to keep.

But just in case I might be wrong, And today is all I get, I’d like to say I love you, And hope you never forget.

If I knew it would be the last time I’d see you walk out the door, I’d hug you and kiss you – and call you Back for just one more.

Tomorrow is not promised to anyone, Young or old alike, And today might be your last chance To hold your loved one tight.

If I knew it would be the last time We’d spare a minute or two, I’d stop and say “I love you,” Instead of assuming you know I do.

So if you’re waiting for tomorrow, Why not do it all today? For if tomorrow never comes, You will surely regret the day

If I knew it would be the last time I’d be there to share your day, I wouldn’t wait until tomorrow, Letting time with you slip away.

You didn’t take the extra time For a smile or hug or kiss. And you surely aren’t too busy to grant What may be their last wish.

For surely there is a tomorrow So hold your loved ones close today, To make up for an oversight, And whisper in their ear; And we’ll always get a second chance Tell them how much you love them, To make everything all right. And that you’ll always hold them dear. There will always be another chance To say our “I love yous,” And certainly there’s another chance To say our “what can I dos.”

Take the time to say “I’m sorry,” “Forgive me,” or “It’s okay,” And if tomorrow never comes, You’ll have no regrets about today.
