THE LODGE GALLERY - FEATURED ARTISTS JUNE: KATHLEEN KELIHER
LANDSCAPE PAINTINGS, OIL AND PASTELS
Upon her move to Bend, Oregon in 1998, Kathleen found herself drawn to Central Oregon scenery and began her interest in landscape painting. Kathleen works outdoors in the summer months, developing small “plein air” oil sketches, gathering color notes and compositional designs. She then returns to her studio and, using
these ideas, develops her larger studio paintings, either in oil or pastel. Kathleen has been the featured artist at Wine by the River in Bend, Oregon and was poster artist for the Sunriver Music Festival in 2001 as well as 2007. Her work can be found locally at Hood Avenue Art in Sisters, Oregon.
JULY: QUILT MONTH
This year’s quilt display at the Lodge is a dedication to Marti Bradley-Kufchak, a longtime Black Butte Ranch homeowner and member of BBR’s “Peggy’s Pin Pals” who passed away this year. Marti was a prolific and master quilter, producing over 70 quilts in her last years. All quilts on display at the Lodge are those made by Marti, in honor of her contributions to the Black Butte Ranch quilting group. The annual quilt show at Black Butte Ranch is Friday, July 8th, featuring quilts made by local artists, handcrafted potholders, opportunity quilt drawing and a $10 deli lunch buffet. The Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show takes place the following day – making it a perfect weekend for all things quilting.
SEPTEMBER: JANI HOBERG
Born and raised in Lake Oswego, Jani has been printmaking and teaching art in the public schools for more than 30 years. “As a printmaker working in the process of Intaglio (where the copper plate has areas that hold the etching ink below the surface of the plate), I draw onto/into the copper plate, print the image and burnish unwanted lines, add lines and print again. I continue to add and subtract lines and textures, print the results and rework the plate until the image is appealing to me.”
AUGUST: FEATURED “ART AT THE RANCH” ARTISTS
Labor Day Weekend marks the annual “Art at the Ranch” event at Black Butte Ranch. This event is a Black Butte Ranch Art Guild fundraiser that supports the Sisters School District visual arts programs. The event includes an artist reception, art showcase & sales, silent auction, artists’ demonstrations and more. Featured artwork from artists participating in this event will be on display at the Lodge Gallery.
