Overview: All funds raised by Team Spirit Long Beach benefit services for breast and ovarian cancer patients and their families living in and around our community. Team Spirit is celebrating over 16 years of success, increasing awareness, attendees, and dollars raised each year.

TCI is committed to helping patients overcome the challenges of cancer in a 64,000 sq. ft. Todd Cancer Institute Pavilion. This three-year-old facility provides an inspirational environment where patients, families and an expert care team work together to develop individualized treatment plans.

Cancer Support Programs All proceeds from Team Spirit Long Beach support a variety of programs for ovarian and breast cancer patients. Women Guiding Women: Cancer Support and Education: This is a Peer-Mentor program for newly diagnosed gynecologic and breast cancer patients. Patients can be matched with a specially trained cancer survivor/mentor and talk oneon-one over the phone with their Mentor. Mentors are committed volunteers who are prepared to assist women through active peer support, compassionate understanding, and information. Gynecologic Cancer Support Group: This group provides mutual support for coping with day-to-day issues of diagnosis, treatment and survivorship. Women are empowered to learn adaptive coping skills and ways to reduce stress. Newly Diagnosed Breast Cancer: This is an ongoing, supportive educational series for women newly diagnosed with breast cancer. This group is facilitated by clinical social worker and an oncology nurse. Cancer Answers: free phone help line answered by an oncology nurse – please call 562-933-0900. The Facts and Figures About the Cause 

The Women Guiding Women support program is one of only two peer-mentor programs of its kind in the nation.



Studies have shown that group therapy helps women with breast cancer to cope and live longer.



Research has further shown that giving cancer patients information in a support group setting can help reduce tension, anxiety, and fatigue, and may lower the risk of depression.



In 2016, about 246,600 new cases of invasive breast cancer and 22,280 new ovarian cancer cases will be diagnosed.



TCI provides customized therapies for more than 1,800 newly diagnosed patients each year.



TCI has three support groups for both breast and ovarian cancer patients that meet weekly along with many educational and social events throughout the year.



TCI ranks in the top four in the nation for patient access to clinical trials for ovarian, cervical and uterine cancers.



TCI performs 40,000 procedures in the Breast Center and 6,500 treatments in the Ambulatory Infusion Center annually. TCI has completed more than 500 clinical trials.
