A Message from Pastor Fr. Michael Fragoso St Peter wrote that we should “always be ready to give an explanation to anyone who asks you for a reason for your hope.” Are we ready? Are we always ready? The Lord Jesus himself told us that at such times we should not worry, that the Holy Spirit would give us the words we need (Mt 10:19, Mk 13:11, Lk 12:11). Then we will be sure to give an account for ourselves the Lord himself asks us when our time comes. St Peter tells us that to do this we should “sanctify Christ as Lord in our hearts”. So, it’s good to practice. I think the Creed which we recite every Sunday is a excellent summary of Christian orthodoxy, what real Christians believe. It’s a good way to understand and sanctify the Lord in our hearts. The problem is expressing to others, and even more difficult is living it out. That is why the Lord sent the Holy Spirit to be with us, to forgive our sins and to guide us along the way. The people in Samaria who received the gifts of the Holy Spirit, in the reading from Acts, had been baptized but not confirmed. This last week Bishop Checchio honored us by conferring the sacrament of Confirmation on 81 of our youngsters. They become soldiers of Christ and receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit. The gifts of the Holy Spirit encourage and support us on dong the will of God, they help us to lead a virtuous life so we can best flourish and do God’s will. We all want to do well and be fulfilled in our lives. After all Jesus came that we may “have life and have abundantly” (Jn 10:10). But sometimes we want more than we can reach, we live in a fallen world and have to travel this road as best we can. St Peter writes, “For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that be the will of God, than for doing evil.” Do Good; Avoid Evil. Remember that Thursday May 25th is the Solemnity if the Ascension of the Lord, a Holy Day of Obligation.

2017 Bishop’s Annual Appeal Ambassadors for Christ As baptized Catholics, we are all Ambassadors for Christ. Like the first disciples, we are sent into the Lord’s vineyard with a mission of bringing hope and goodness to our world. Some things are possible for us as individuals, but some need the combined efforts of many. The 2017 Bishop’s Annual Appeal is an opportunity for us to come together to serve as Ambassadors for Christ. By contributing to the life of the Church through our support of the many and varied diocesan ministries, we reflect our commitment to evangelization, priestly vocations, religious formation for our youth, assisting the poor, and so much more. All of the money donated goes to these and all of the pastoral and charitable ministries mentioned in the Appeal brochure and none is used for administrative costs. Thank you for your generous support.
