To: Al Kowal, St. Basil Parish Council and Parishioners 202 Harcourt Street Winnipeg MB R3J 3H3 26 August 2016 Glory be to Jesus Christ!

Prot H/66/2016 Слава Ісусу Христу!

Dearly Beloved in Christ, As part of the series of clergy assignments in the Archeparchy of Winnipeg, effective 1 September 2016, Rt. Rev. Walter Klimchuk, having completed his assignment at St. Basil’s Parish, will be freed from any further pastoral duties at St. Basil’s Parish. Canon Law foresees that with his present age, he is eligible for retirement from active ministry. From 1 September 2016 St. Basil’s Parish will be served by Very Rev. Michael Kwiatkowski as parish administrator (in addition to his pastorship at Holy Eucharist Parish). He will be assisted by Deacon Leon Twerdun, whose duties will include conducting Deacon-led Liturgies. This will be a temporary arrangement until a permanent priest can be appointed to St. Basil’s. I take this opportunity to thank Fr. Walter for his pastoral ministry and wish him a peaceful retirement with opportunity to focus on his health concerns. In turn I call upon the members of St. Basil Parish to continue to work together with prayer and dedication for the betterment of the parish, asking the Merciful Lord to show the way forward for the parish on this earthly pilgrim journey. May you be aided in this mission through the intercession of St. Basil, your patron and spiritual guide. Sincerely in Christ, Most Rev. Lawrence Huculak OSBM Metropolitan

Saint Basil’s Catechism Program Will begin on September 10th form 10:00 to 11:30 am with registration and a class Classes are held in the auditorium. The program for the second level is called: “Children of Light” this is when the students are prepared for the Mystery of Reconciliation (confession) and to receive the Mystery of the Eucharist with the more profound understanding of “Receiving Christ”. The Program was developed by the Sister Servants of Mary Immaculate and imbues the Mysteries with a unique Eastern Rite understanding. Students of any age are welcome to attend to prepare for this spiritual milestone. We teach the “God with Us” program for grades 1 and 3 to 8. It was developed to interest and engage the students, with the age and maturity of the child in mind, considering the social behavioral and intellectual and maturity level at each grade level. These years can make a difference in children’s lives; teaching them the values that can strengthen and sustain them through the difficulties that life may present. Teaching them the power the power of forgiveness, compassion and mercy, and the understanding that each is known to God and has a purpose to fulfill that is unique to that person. Our wonderful catechists are volunteers who give freely of their time and treasure. Many of our graduates have returned to teach or assist with classes throughout the years. If you feel called to teach catechism, please let me know. The catechist’s manual is a wealth of information and classes for new catechists will be arranged with the Ukrainian Catholic Religious Education Center. We wish to welcome all children to participate in this opportunity to learn about God and His plan for our salvation, strengthen their faith and understand themselves better. Registration forms will be at the entrance of the church. Please feel free to call me for information. In Christ, Gwen Dankewich 204-889-3104 or [email protected]
