Advice from Brian Cox Personal Trainer with Raintree Country Club You said you were going to get back in shape and lose some weight. You’ve made the commitment. Keep the momentum going! Should I use ALL of the machines in gym; dumbbells and free weights; treadmills and bicycles? Those are great, but some of the best exercises you can do are with your very own body weight. Squats, lunges, push ups, dips, pull ups, and of course ‘core exercises’, all can be done with no equipment at all, and can be done anywhere, any time. Do you travel a lot? Don’t have time on a day to day basis to get to the gym? You can do these things right in your hotel room, living room, on the beach or poolside. Squats and Lunges: Make sure your knees do NOT go past your toes. With a squat, the initial movement should be with your hips. Just like you were sitting down into a chair. Poke your butt back and then start bending your knees down. Push with your heels on the way back up. With a lunge, take a big stride forward, keep your shoulders back, and keep that back leg as straight as you can. Push Ups: One of my personal favorites. Start off on your knees, hands should be a little wider than your shoulders. Make sure there is a straight line from the backs of your shoulders to the backs of your knees. Now, drop down so your chest goes down between your hands, NOT your head. When you build up some strength, move the push ups to a bench or low table, then when you build some more strength, move the push ups back to the floor and do them on your hands and toes. Your own body weight can be used to do a complete workout. So now you really have NO excuses.

Yoga With Molly and Ashley

704.651.7022 [email protected]

Yoga is well known for its many benefits. In addition to stress reduction and physical conditioning, a regular yoga practice promotes improved joint health, supports detoxification, and increases overall health. Yoga is much more than a means to better the body, it is also a terrific tool for enhancing sports performance.

Molly Burroughs

1st Tuesday: “Slow Flow Yoga” Slow Flow is a more meditative flow that infuses breath work with traditional vinyasas, sequences of yoga postures, and repeated movements at a slightly slower pace to increase endurance and raise core temperature. The end result is a relaxed state being, a limber body, a conditioned heart and peaceful soul.

Ashley Avilez

2nd Tuesday: “Power Yoga” An energetic practice for all levels that mixes challenging postures with breath work and variable pacing to direct your focus and create a new level of core strength and flexibility. Sweat away the toxins, reduce stress levels. 3rd Tuesday: “Long Slow Deep Yoga” This class quickly brings students to the floor where they can explore the depths of their flexibility with slower movements, much longer holds and deeper breathing that allow for greater muscle release. It is very restorative & relaxing. (All levels) Taught by Ashley Avilez 4th Tuesday: “Synergy Yoga” SYNERGY is a fusion of traditional flowing yoga postures, body weight exercises and classic athletic strength and conditioning drills designed to produce results. Tuesday Evenings from 6:00pm to 7:00pm, $8 per class with prior reservation/$12 walk-in rate To reserve your space please call the club receptionist at 704.542.8150 Due to the advanced time frame in which the Newsletter is compiled and printed, all dates, times, events, hours of operations and other information are subject to change.
