STOUGHTON COUNTRY CLUB June 2016

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE By: Suzette Mullooly June is starting with some warm, sunny days which usually translates into more activity at the Club. The number of golf rounds go up, the bar and restaurant are busier, and weddings and events are scheduled. This June will be no exception. There are four weddings, one rehearsal dinner and four golf outings. Member events include Chip and Sip golf lessons for the ladies, junior golf lessons, ladies auxiliary lunch and bridge, the member/guest - member/member tournament 2 day event and Rally for the Cure, a ladies golf scramble and dinner that raises money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. All contribute to the club's financial position. Several people have asked about our membership numbers. The membership committee reports there are currently 233 members anticipating the number to grow to 238 shortly. Welcome to all our new members. Enjoy the course, dining and many activities at the club. I look forward to meeting you. The Jimmy Buffet golf scramble and

party was a lot of fun. The golfers were challenged by putting through a palm tree, putting around flip flops, and hitting through hula hoops. The winning team was Mike and Stacy Stolen and guests. Party goers enjoyed margaritas, tasty hors d'oeuvres and games. Those rumors of Jimmy showing up proved once again to be incorrect. Thanks to Mark and staff for their work on getting the course in great shape. This time of year if is hard to keep up with the mowing and the many other activities needed to maintain the course. ENJOY!

GOLF SHOP NOTES By: Steve Hlavacek We have a full field of 32 teams for the Mens Classic this season. Check the golf shop or on line for your 1st round pairings. First match must be completed by June 5th. Congratulations to Terri McNamara who had her 1st Hole-in-One on Tuesday, May 17th. Terri used her six iron to hole out on the 13th hole. Chip-N-Sip Classes start on Tuesday,

May 31st at 5:30 sharp on the putting green. You can sign up for one, two or three lessons. Each lesson is $20.00 which includes wine, $10.00 to club for wine and $10.00 to Komen. Lesson One is on Putting and the new Left Hand Low Technique. Lesson Two will cover chipping and Lesson Three covers sand play and Pitch Shots. Lessons are one hour long followed by challenges based on the lessons. Poor weather forced our Callaway Demo Day to close early. If anyone is interested in getting fit by the Callaway Geru, please let me know and I will schedule another day for him to be here at the club. MISUNDERSTOOD RULES: !. GROUNDING YOUR CLUB IN A HAZARD: You cannot ground your club in a hazard. Practice Swings may be taken in a Hazard as long as you don’t touch the ground, sand or water with your club. The top of the grass may be touched during a practice swing. The penalty incurred is loss of the hole in Match Play and a two shot penalty in stroke play. 2. ACCIDENTALLY MOVING YOUR BALL. There is a one stroke penalty for accidentally moving your ball and it must be replaced in its original position before hitting. There is another one stroke penalty for hitting the ball from the wrong place if it is not replaced. There is no penalty for accidentally moving the ball when on the tee. JIMMY BUFFETT PARTY It was 5’O Clock somewhere with our successful “Jimmy Buffet” themed event on Sunday the 29th. With having 129

attendants, our members couldn’t get enough of our coconut bowling, cornhole and beer pong games that were huge hits throughout the event. StolenWise (“The Sailors”) came out on top with a score of 59. Themed holes were set out to give the golfers even more of a tropical feel to our night. Our "Putt Through a Palm Tree" on hole 1 was won by Craig Fuller. Ron Richie was the winner of our "Putt Through Flip-Flops" on hole 4 and Hole 9 was won by Eric Olson for the “Must Wear Hula Hoop While Putting” hole. The night wouldn’t have been complete without a full buffet filled with fish tacos, burger sliders and endless amounts of tropical fruits. Not only did this event have a great turn out, but also gave the guests a slice of paradise for a night. Thank you to all the committee members who helped make this event possible! LADIES AUXILIARY By: Marge Gerber During the beautiful month of May, we had two gatherings of the ladies auxiliary. Per usual, we enjoyed good and generous lunches, lots of good conversation and two rousing games of bridge. High scorers for the May 11th games were Marge Gerber and Barb Entwistle. On May 25th the winners were Barb Entwistle and Marge Gerber. We would love to have some more card players. If you are a country club member and would like to meet with a bevy of fine ladies to play bridge or euchre, we welcome you! It is a wonderful way to spend a Wednesday afternoon. Hope to see you soon!
