Letter From The Superintendent

We are now starting to reseed the course. Fortunately we have very little to do this year and it should not interfere with your play. We do make a small mess in those areas for a week to 10 days, so be aware and please don’t drive your cart through them. We need to protect the seed and any new seedlings. We have a new pruning program that will begin this month. It will be done to thin and remove weight from the trees. Any homeowner who would like to have the trees pruned behind their house for shape or better visibility, please call the maintenance office at (925) 634-0505. This is the first time this service has been offered to the homeowners. There will be a pre-determined charge to the homeowner for this service, but it is a chance for you to solve any issues you may have with the trees that are directly behind your home. The extent of any pruning will be at the discretion of the course superintendent. All work will be done by golf course personnel or our subcontractors. Thank you for your continued support. Terry Kelsey

Repairs and Improvements We recently completed two major refurbishing projects for the clubhouse. The patio off of the main dining room was torn out and replaced due to soil failure. The new patio was enlarged and can now accommodate larger wedding ceremonies. We will incorporate this area into our plans for future events. Thank You to one of our members, Tim Webb of Tim Webb Concrete for his expertise with this large project. Thank you also to Terry Kelsey and his crew for all of their hard work in helping to get this done for our Fall Wine Tasting Event. We also repaired and resurfaced the veranda to eliminate water leakage to the downstairs level of the clubhouse. Thank You to Kirk Vaughn, another talented member of Cell-Crete Corporation, for his expertise and guidance with this project. If you have any projects at your home or business, I would definitely recommend Tim and Kirk. Mark Tissot, General Manager

2009 Member/Member Tournament Results This was the second year of a different format for this event, and the changes proved successful. We started earlier in the day, a week earlier on the calendar, and had lunch before instead of during the event.  Additionally, a few members assisted in tee shot distances for the first day par 3 challenge, and they were better, but will evolve again next year. This first day format seems to be popular and also makes for a great horserace for men and women. Winners of this years’ event were Larry Watkins/Bill Mayer in the Men’s division, and Debbie Martin/ Sonja Welin in the Women’s division. Runners up were Mark Chase/Lyall Miller and Judy Bartoli/Liz Lord. Low Gross honors to Tom Harmon/Dave Schnapp and Annette Krey/Kay Smith. The separate horse races were won by Harmon/Schnapp and Ms. Houston/Frazier. The alternate shot format makes this exciting. The evening awards and dinner dance are a nice culmination to this important event and gives us a chance to recognize the winners, as well as all who placed in the tourney.  Thanks for your participation in this popular event. Look for upgrades next year!

ON NEW YEAR’S DAY, FRIDAY, JANUARY 1ST, 2010 There will be an 8:00 a.m. Shotgun, No open play afterwards. The golf course and snack bar will close at 1:00 p.m. The Upstairs portion of the clubhouse will BE CLOSED

Recent Hole in Ones Patty Uyeno had a hole in one during the Par 3 challenge on #2 and bought drinks for everyone at the awards dinner. Congrats Patty, and don’t let anyone tell you it didn’t count because it was 18 holes of par 3’s.

TOURNAMANT PARTICIPATION APPRECIATION DAY RESULTS

The Tournament Participation Appreciation event included fantastic weather, a great dinner by Jeff and his staff, 76 folks who definitely earned this invite, and lots of prizes including gift certificates to Northern California courses and resorts. It is fun to culminate our tournament season by thanking those who are most active in our tournaments all year. We have a drawing for a grand prize of entry into all club events for 2010, and last years’ winners, the Bartoli’s, drew the lucky names of Ken and Kay Gschwend, who immediately found 74 friends in the room volunteering to play with them in Invitational’s. The day included a scramble with the team of Mike Rhoads/Jenny Dillon and Bob Serbin/Val Fruit winning low net, and the Frazier’s and Houston’s winning low gross. Closest to Pins sharpshooters were Joanne Smith and Paul Lewandowski. Again, thanks for your participation all year, as it makes it fun for us in the Shop when we have lots of players.

Discovery Bay Breakers 9-Hole Golf Group October Newsletter Input October 1, 2009–Rally for the Cure The joint effort of the 9-holers and the Ladies 18-hole Golf Group proved to be a huge success. Lots of work went into the day’s events and the effort resulted in a $6,135 donation to Susan G. Komen Rally for the Cure. One hundred and two players enjoyed the beautiful weather, fun golf, and excellent lunch. Lots of ladies took home raffle baskets donated by our members and local businesses. In addition, selected items were placed in a silent auction with the proceeds contributing to our donation. This is a worthy cause and our members are happy to contribute their time and resources to help find a cure for this disease that has touched so many of us. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped support this event. October 8, 2009 –
