Hopefully you were able to ‘bring a friend’ to enjoy this theatrical experience! Thank you also to everyone who attended our 2018 Season Launch! What a great line up we have coming up next year. I’m sure you enjoyed as much as I did the Director’s explanations of why they chose their play and how excited they are about directing it! 2018 Programme MAJOR PLAY 1

Bloody Murder

Written by Ed Sala Directed by Eric Blyth & Anne Coombe Dates March Synopsis A twisted, fourth-wall breaking, whodunit! A group of the usual British murder-mystery types gather for a weekend retreat at the sumptuous country estate of the esteemed Lady Somerset. There's the major who served in India; the inebriated, fading actor; the innocent ingénue; the exotic lady in red; the mysterious Chinese gentleman; the rich dowager aunt and her faithful maid and worthless nephew. Suddenly, one of them dies of poison! Is this actually just another formulaic, all-too-predictable mystery story? Or is it something diabolically … different?

MAJOR PLAY 2

One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest

Written by Dale Wasserman (from the novel by Ken Kesey) Directed by Alan Cooke Dates June / July Synopsis An 80s cult favourite. A funny, touching, devastating play set in a psychiatric clinic where sanity equals obedience and the only way to survive is to play by the rules. One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest is a powerful exploration of conformity and rebellion. *contains strong course language, violence and references to mental illnesses. Not suitable for children.

MAJOR PLAY 3

The 39 Steps

Adapted by Patrick Barlow Directed by Sonia Zabala Dates September / October Synopsis An hilarious and frantic version of a spell-binding thriller. Alfred Hitchcock’s classic thriller, The 39 Steps, brilliantly and hilariously recreated for the stage. Follow the incredible adventures of our handsome hero Richard Hannay, complete with stiff upper-lip, British gung-ho and pencil moustache, as he encounters dastardly murders, double crossing secret agents, and, of course, devastatingly beautiful women!

MAJOR PLAY 4

In the Spirit of Murder

Written by Teri Galea-Thorne Directed by Teri Galea-Thorne Dates November / December Synopsis Find out what banana splits, short circuits and sexual starvation have in common! Something is not quite right in the Van Rooken household. What starts off as an attempt for sex then turns into an attempt to escape? What starts out as a lure to reinvigorate a dying relationship then turns into a battle of revenge? What starts out to be an alleged affair turns into a figment of imagination. Throw in a dead body and you have ‘In the Spirit of Murder’!

A group of the usual British murder-mystery types gather for a weekend retreat at the sumptuous country estate of the esteemed Lady Somerset. There’s the major who served in India; the inebriated fading actor; the innocent ingénue; the exotic lady in red; the mysterious Chinese gentleman; the rich dowager aunt and her faithful maid and worthless nephew. Suddenly, one of them dies of poison! Well, of course. Oh, what fun! But wait… Her Ladyship refuses to summon the police! She says she won’t go through all this, again. All what, again? And why were they all invited there in the first place? Is this actually just another formulaic, all-toopredictable mystery story? Or is it something diabolically … different?
