Members’ Notes Zaven Ariyan (‘53) writes “After retiring as a Vice President of Research and Development, I was appointed Professor of Chemistry at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, NJ - USA”.

Adrian Bagnall (‘79) is a regular traveller to the Middle and Far East where his firm has offices. He would be happy to meet any former pupils when over there. Otherwise working in Canary Wharf and commuting from Suffolk every day and likewise would be delighted to hear from any former pupils working locally. Coincidentally, he met Nick Athorne (’70) about 2 years ago, singing in our local church choir!!

Michel Cole (‘62) is designing and building prototypes of modular foldout, flat pack environmentally efficient housing in Beijing, China for the international marketplace Giles Corbally (’92) and his wife Elena are pleased to announce the birth of their son Giles on 29 August 2013. Howard Culley (‘60) has started writing historical fiction and has had five novels published on Kindle so far. Tessa Dagley (’07) graduated from

Durham in 2011 and completed a Master’s in Global and Imperial History at Oxford. Following her studies, she worked for 3FF (Three Faiths Forum), an Charlie Bainbridge (‘92) and Georgie intercultural charity based in London, were married in St Edmund’s School and gained a CELTA qualification. Sherief Elsayed (‘95) was recently appointed as a Consultant Spinal Surgeon at the world-renowned Centre for Spinal Studies and Surgery in Nottingham. Max Gammon (’51) had some rock climbing poems published in the “Loose Scree” issue of the Mountaineering Magazine in January 2014. Max has also been researching the underlying causes

of the degeneration of Christian belief in Western society.

Timothy Gosling (‘84) is writing his third book for launch in spring 2015, Thames and Hudson. He is also staging Peter Pan at the Bloomsbury Theatre in October 2014 for NSPCC. Warwick

has settled back in Johannesburg, after spending 3 years in UAE and Malawi. Warwick is married to Eleanor and has a son Sebastien now 22 years old. He is working for the deVere group as a Senior Wealth Manager.

Giles Kendall (’90) was appointed consultant in neonatal intensive care at University College London Hospital, having completed his PHD in Developmental Neuroscience at University College London. He has recently written his second medical textbook and lives in Finchley with his wife and two children. Franc

writes “Our weekend foster daughter Jacqueline has turned 17. She loves musicals & dance and recently the three of us thoroughly enjoyed the So You Think You Can Dance theatre show. Jacqueline and my wife Kirsten have been unlucky in health last year, so hoping for better fortune in 2014. I’m helping a new charity “eduScrum” that trains schools in using Agile-Scrum in the classroom. Pupils love it, they have more fun, finish their curriculum earlier, and they achieve higher grades. Our focus is on Dutch secondary schools for now. Using AgileScrum in my work in Tele2 has been a real success and it’s great to now bring this to our children and future generations.”

Wedding anniversary last October in Sheffield. Anthony and Martin entered the Junior School for the summer term, in 1934 and went up the School together until leaving in July 1943. Anthony had two older brothers at School, the twins Alfred and Kenneth, and Martin has a younger brother, John (‘44), who was also at School. John has just published his third book, which his contemporaries will not be surprised to learn is a treatise on falconry.

Thomas Lowen (‘12) gained a place studying music and as a choral scholar at New College Oxford. Despite his already busy schedule, Thomas has recently released his first EP under his pseudonym ‘Tame the Lion’. The project entitled ‘The Lion’s Mouth EP’ includes five original tracks and is available for download on http://tamethelion. bandcamp.com/releases.

Nigel MacArthur (’65) writes books and is due to have one published in the spring of 2014.

Mason Morfit (‘58) is currently serving on the board of directors of Audubon Alaska working to protect The Great Land. Iona Murray-Jones (‘01) is enjoying working with young children and looking forward to having her own with her partner of 10 years.

Foad Nahai (‘63) is Professor of Plastic Surgery at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. He is President of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, Director of the American Board of Plastic Surgery and currently the President elect of The American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgical Centers.

Jason Norris (‘95) has recently been promoted to Head of International Operations at University of Dundee.

Caroline Pendred (neé Adam) (‘92) lives in Edenbridge, Kent, married Guy in 2004 and has two sons, Miles (8) and Luke (6). She worked in London, at the Natural History Museum, as PA to Head of Marketing and her career progressed to Headhunting in the front office executive banking sectors. She now works in the family business Norman Pendred & Company as their Business Developer.

Iain Philip (‘62) writes “I had lunch in London last September with David Mills, Ralph Carter, Bruce Elam, Peter Sandringham and James Creed. They all have more hair than I do, dammit, but otherwise great to have seen them all.” Bill Phillip (‘64) is exhibiting his landscape pictures at the Arundel Museum as part of the Arundel Festival from August 16 to 25. Free entry, do go!

Jane Radford (former staff ‘05) writes “Having thought I retired some years ago I was asked to step in as Academic Administrator at the craft college where I teach part time.”

Andrew Renshaw (‘64) edited the book “Wisden on the Great War: The Lives of Cricket’s Fallen 1914-1918” which was published by John Wisden & Co on May 8 2013. He has also written an article on the subject for Wisden 2014. Four former pupils of St Edmund’s School Canterbury had obituaries in Wisden after being killed in WW1. Christopher Stellon (‘02) recently married partner Margaret in Cornwall. He has been deployed to Afghanistan for a further tour.

Sturmer (‘75) has maintained his medical sales orientation and these days works for a Government funded health care organisation, promoting home care nursing services to doctors. He would welcome any contact from ‘75 leavers who may remember him

[email protected]. He has been an Australian citizen for 12 years and enjoys the Perth lifestyle though sometimes wishes for a real winter and a slightly cooler summer!

Ian Sutcliffe (former staff ‘03) after leaving St Edmund’s as Director of Music, Ian went on to Marlborough College for four years and then went freelance, adjudicating and conducting. Then Ian and Jill bought the Riverbarn Restaurant at Fonthill Bishop, Salisbury which they run with both sons. Jonathan (’03) after leaving school went on to become a chef and has worked in two Michelin starred restaurants before joining the family team and Tom (’03), became a father to Olivia Grace Sutcliffe on 21 December 2013.

Andrew Szaflarski-Saidi (‘72) has been a full time antiquarian and secondhand book dealer for the last two years following 30 years in the public service. Andrew exhibits nationwide and online selling scarce and interesting books mainly on world travel and military history. Michael

has now retired in Devon and is playing golf and bowls. He has also been travelling in Australasia, USA and Europe in his Chausson motor van.

Simon Ward (’79) left BT last summer to set up his own business and has since been working with a variety of different companies transforming their business processes and developing customer strategies. Giles Wildy (‘65) has just passed his 40th anniversary in policing.

Terrance Wong (‘94) married Mikako Shindo on 20 February 2014.
