live, love, laugh, ... learn At Chase Terrace Technology College, we are ambitious for the achievement of all of our students. The Governing Body and staff team work in partnership with parents and the local community to ensure the very best possible outcomes for students, and take our lead from Stephen Sutton*; who showed us how to make the most of our opportunities. Stephen taught us how to live, love, laugh and learn.

‘Leaders have created a happy and caring school community, where teaching and achievement are both good, and which prepares students well for their future success’ (Ofsted, 2015) We are proud of our caring, respectful learning environment, our inclusive ethos and our broad and progressive curriculum. Furthermore, we recognise the central importance of helping students to make good decisions, both in and out of school and also for the next steps they will take.

*Stephen Sutton was a student at Chase Terrace Technology College and inspired people across the world with his bravery, his generosity of spirit and his extraodinarily positive response to his terminal cancer condition. The community of Burntwood is enormously proud of what Stephen achieved through his fundraising for the Teenage Cancer Trust (over £3 million when he died).

Chase Terrace Technology College has developed specialisms (i.e. leading edge practice) in Design and Technology and the Arts (Visual, Media and Performing). The School’s curriculum features strong and progressive provision in these areas and this creates the foundation for a highly creative and practical curriculum experience for our students. The School’s Sixth Form is a very important feature of the School as a whole and sixth form students play important roles. The strong reputation of the Sixth Form is increasingly bringing in students from neighbouring schools. Following a devastating fire in 2002, most of the School was rebuilt and other areas were refurbished. In 2009, a new sports hall was built (incorporating a fitness suite) to improve our accommodation further still. The School’s new buildings provide an aspirational and exciting context for learning. I hope that this prospectus gives you a sense of what we are about, but there is no substitute for seeing the School for yourself. You are assured a warm welcome when you visit.

care guidance & support ‘Students are offered extensive independent advice and guidance to support them in making choices for their next stage in learning, training or employment’. (Ofsted 2015)

As the parent of a child with special needs, I find CTTC extremely supportive and welcoming. The wonderful facilities are backed up by wonderful staff, who listen to all our concerns as parents. It is a ‘special’ place for children to learn - I could go on for an hour!

‘Students behave well. They feel safe and are polite, courteous and respectful’. (Ofsted 2015)

At Chase Terrace, we have a highly qualified team of specialist teachers, providing a broad range of courses for our students to study. In Key Stage 3, this includes English, Maths, Science, Design and Technology, Computing, French or German, History, Geography, PE, Art, Performing Arts and RE. Parents have the right to make a request to the Headteacher that their child is withdrawn from RE lessons and assemblies. All students follow a programme of personal, social and health education (PSHE), as well as study skills and work-related learning sessions. There are also enterprise activities and opportunities to link with students in schools overseas. The PSHE programme aims to help our young people to become knowledgeable, caring, tolerant young people, aware of the risks they may face and able to make a positive contribution to the community. In Key Stage 4, all students study English, Maths, Science, PE, RE and PSHE. They are also able to select from a very broad range of options, of both GCSE courses and more vocationally orientated BTEC qualifications. In addition to the timetabled curriculum, there are lots of other activities on offer, including musical groups, sports teams, drama productions and various excursions, including ski trips and musical tours abroad. We have also set up links with schools in Germany, India and Egypt that give our students an international perspective. Each year, there is an enrichment week, when special activities are planned with a particular emphasis on active learning, teamwork and problem-solving.

Chase Terrace has one of the strongest achievement profiles in Staffordshire. This is achieved through high expectations, high quality teaching and close tracking of progress, together with intervention strategies to tackle any potential underachievement. Our specialist status in Technology was awarded to reflect our distinctive strength in Design and Technology and our innovative uses of technology in other subject areas. Our second specialism in Arts reflects our excellent provision in the Performing Arts, Media Studies and Art. We have also recently introduced Photography into the curriculum - with stunning results. We have a range of specific initiatives targeted at groups of students, including a specific programme for Gifted and Talented students. There are also well-established and highly successful Raising Boys’ Achievement and Raising Girls’ Achievement Programmes, for boys and girls who need a little extra help to fulfil their potential. Students with Special Education Needs are well supported by a strong team of teaching assistants and consistently produce excellent examination outcomes. Chase Terrace Technology College is a full status Dyslexia Friendly School. As a further intervention measure, the school employs its own one-to-one tutors - specialist, experienced teachers who provide extra support with English and Maths, where it is needed.

The transition from primary school surpassed all expectations staff at CTTC have gone beyond the call of duty. Communication between us and the year teams has instilled much confidence in us as parents, which we have passed on to our children

Our students are the life force of the School and the best advertisement for it. We therefore listen to what they have to say. In particular, there is a very strong school council, supported by year councils and a range of working parties. Students are also involved in other leadership positions in the School, eg. as peer counsellors and sports leaders. Parents receive termly updates on progress. We recognise the key importance of effective communications between school and home and maintain the home-school partnership through: • always having staff available when parents need to speak to someone; • sending regular letters home and using our texting service for quick reminders and short messages; • regular parents’ evenings and information evenings; and • regular Parents’ Forum meetings, where parents are consulted on policy matters and have an opportunity to make suggestions on potential improvements We also work very closely with a wide range of other agencies.

‘Students are keen to learn, and work well together and on their own’. (Ofsted 2015)

‘An excellent programme of extra-curricular activities, including sports and performing arts events, and extensive involvement in fundraising activities, all successfully support students’ personal development’. (Ofsted 2015) The School now has some of the best accommodation and resources in Staffordshire, including:

• Art and Photography studios

My son recently had an accident, which meant he could not attend his normal classes. The staff at Chase Terrace, and particularly Student Support, have been wonderful in helping him to carry on with his studies and also giving him the emotional support he needed.

‘The well planned (Sixth Form) curriculum supports students’ good achievement... and underpins their high rates of progression’. (Ofsted 2015) Chase Terrace has a large and succesful sixth form, with a broad range of courses. There is a collaborative arrangement with the four other secondary schools in the Lichfield and Burntwood area to increase further the course flexibility and choice. Sixth formers have their own newly-refurbished common room and study facilities. The sixth form students at Chase Terrace are excellent role models and ambassadors for the School and they all take on leadership responsibility across the School or in the local community.
