Wir nannten sie die Fantastischen 49. Genau. Wir haben die mal vorgeschickt, ob das geht ...
Als Special Guest kam der Musiker Max Herre 2015 ans Zermatt Unplugged. Danach gab es für ihn kein Halten mehr: Er wollte selbst auftreten, als Headliner. Herre, der in den 90ern mit dem Stuttgarter Künstlerkollektiv Freundeskreis seinen Durchbruch hatte, gilt neben den Fantastischen 4 als Künstler der akustischen Show par excellence. Das Zermatt Unplugged bringt das Set seiner MTV Unplugged Kahedi Radio Show zum Matterhorn. Du hast Zermatt Unplugged letztes Jahr kennengelernt, als Special Guest von Philipp Poisel. Wie findest du unser Festival? Ich finds sehr besonders. Philipp und ihr hattet mich eingeladen, und dann sind wir gekommen, mit Joy Denalane. Das waren nette Tage. Wir waren Ski fahren und haben auf einer Hütte die Ronnie
Wann hast du das erste Mal von uns gehört? Ich habe mich das erste Mal so richtig mit dem Festival beschäftigt, als ich mit Philipp Poisel guckte, was ihr da eigentlich so macht. Ich kannte es davor nicht. Wenn ein Festival sich unplugged nennt, dann ist es klar, wie das Set-up aussieht. Aber dass es organisatorisch trotzdem so eine kniffelige Sache ist, weil man alles nur auf eine
Scott's All Stars gesehen, 3030 Meter über Meer. Ganz toll. Das hat alles sehr viel Spass gemacht und ich habe alle genervt, weil ich mit meinem Unplugged-Set unbedingt kommen wollte. Du bist als Künstler und durch dein Album MTV Unplugged Kahedi Radio Show eine echte Referenz für uns. Aber ein Zelt ist keine Nalepastrasse – das DDR-Funkhaus in Berlin ist berühmt für seine Akustik. Hast du ein Zeltbühnen-Konzert gesehen und vertraust du uns? Ich habe kein Konzert gesehen, aber ich vertraue euch (lacht) und ich bringe ja auch mein Team mit. Wir haben die Unplugged-Show die letzten zwei Jahre auf viele Bühnen in Deutschland gebracht, vor Open-Air-Publikum, mit 10–12000 Leuten. Es gibt einen Weg, um die Intimität zu erhalten, welche die Nalepastrasse hat, und es trotzdem gangbar zu machen für grössere Bühnen. Ich finde es cool, das im Zelt zu machen,
wir jetzt unsere Produktion in dieses abgelegene Tal in der Schweiz bringen können. DJ Friction, der Freundeskreis-Held, legt am Festival auf. Sitzt der dann im Publikum und weiss nicht, ob er mitmachen soll? Dadurch, dass die Show unplugged ist, ist der DJ gar nicht vorgesehen. Wir haben einen Operator, der klassisch wie im Funkhaus die Show fährt, aber es ist schon so, dass Frico bei den FreundeskreisSongs aufspringt und denkt: Jetzt kommt der Part, jetzt müsste ich das abdrücken. Wie konnte man bei deiner MTV-Aufnahme Zuschauer werden? Wie viele waren da? Nicht viele. Es ging zwei Tage und es waren jeweils 120. Man konnte sich bewerben und wir haben Tickets verlost. Schliesslich waren wir in Berlin und klar dort waren viele uns wohl gesonnene Leute, und über MTV gab es auch Tickets zur Verlosung. Am Konzert in Zermatt gibt's jetzt ähnliche Bedingungen: Die Leute sitzen. Wie war das bei euch in den letzten zwei Jahren? Die Leute standen. Es waren grosse Festivals oder wir haben eigene Open Airs veranstaltet. Das Programm eignet sich auch für Sitzkonzerte, weil es sehr musikalisch ist und man viel entdecken kann auf der Bühne. Aber ich geh davon aus, dass, auch wenn es bestuhlt ist, die Leute nicht lange sitzen. Letztes Jahr hat Philipp Poisel am Tag vor seinem Konzert ziemlich Party gemacht. Warst du dabei? Absolut. Wir sind Polonaise marschierend, die Zermatt Hymne singend durchs Lokal gestapft.

Hast du einen Tipp für unsere Festivalbesucher: Was sollte man nicht verpassen, wenn man Zermatt besucht? Ich finde es ganz toll oben in der einen Hütte, wenn man abfährt von der obersten Station, man muss ein bisschen rechts halten und dann kommt die Hütte, wo die Ronnie Scott's Band gespielt hat. Gandegghütte. Ja! Das war grossartig, weil die Bühne mit Schnee aufgeschippt ist, ein paar Holzpaletten drüber und Teppiche, und dann spielt da eine wahnsinnige Jazzband. Weltklasse. Man sitzt in den Liegestühlen und hat dieses Panorama mit dem Matterhorn, man trinkt was und hört Jazzmusik – das fand ich wirklich fantastisch. Na dann, viel Spass in Zermatt! Wir freuen uns riesig auf dein Konzert.

It was all great fun, and I've since then been pestering everyone about coming here again with my Unplugged set. As an artist, your MTV Unplugged Kahedi Radio Show album is really defining for us. But a marquee is not Nalepastrasse, the DDR broadcasting centre in Berlin famous for its acoustics. Have you seen a Marquee Stage performance, and do you trust us? I haven't seen a concert, but I do trust you (laughs), and I am bringing my team with me. We've performed the Unplugged Show on many stages in Germany over the last two years, before open-air audiences with 10 to 12 thousand people. There is a way to handle it and keep the intimacy that Nalepastrasse has, but still make it possible for larger stages. I think it'd be great to do that in a marquee, because it has such an arena character. It has been tried many times and works well. We are coming with a big set-up of 22 people. With regard to space on the stage alone, Fanta 4 really brought us to our limits with their Unplugged concert. We called them the Fantastic 49. Exactly. We sent them ahead, to scope out whether it would work ...
The musician Max Herre came to Zermatt Unplugged as a Special Guest in 2015. There was no stopping him after that. He wanted to appear solo as a headliner. Max, who had his breakthrough in the 90s with Freundeskreis, the artistic collective from Stuttgart, is considered a top-rate acoustic performance artist, comparable to the Fantastischen 4. Zermatt Unplugged is bringing the set of his MTV Unplugged Kahedi Radio Show to the Matterhorn.
When did you hear about us for the first time? I really looked into the festival for the first time when, along with Philipp Poisel, I had a look at what you actually do. I didn't know it before that. If a festival calls itself unplugged, then it's clear what the set-up looks like. But I wasn't really aware that it was such a tricky thing from an organisational aspect, because everything can be done in a specific way. It demands so much from the organisers, and it 's great that we can now bring our production into one of the most remote valleys in Switzerland.
You got to know Zermatt Unplugged last year as a Special Guest of Philipp Poisel. How did you like our festival? I found it very special. Philipp and you invited me, and then we came here with Joy Denalane. Those were nice days. We went skiing and watched
DJ Friction, the lead of Freundeskreis, is spinning at the festival. Should he just sit in the audience, unsure of whether he should join in? The fact that it is unplugged means that a DJ is not planned at all. We have an operator who drives the show in the classic manner, like in
the Funkhaus, but it is true that Frico jumps up during the Freundeskreis songs and thinks: Now comes the part where I have to pull the trigger. How do you become a spectator of your MTV recordings? How many were there? Not many. It took two days and there were 120
Which one was that? There was a very nice gentleman (thinks back) ... Who only serves lamb to eat. Dan Daniell. Exactly. He appears every evening with his songs, and it is very convivial and boozy. Outstanding food.

each time. You could register for tickets and we also raffled some off. After all, being in Berlin, it's clear there were people who were inclined towards us, and MTV also provided tickets for the draw. There are now similar conditions at the concert in Zermatt: People are seated. How did you do it in the last two years? People were standing. There were major festivals, or we organized our own open-airs. The program is also suitable for seated concerts, because it's very musical and there's plenty to discover on the stage. But I assume that people won't stay seated for very long, even though there are seats. Philipp Poisel had a real party last year on the day before his concert. Were you there? Absolutely. We stomped through the venue dancing the polonaise and singing the Zermatt anthem.
Do you have a tip for our festival visitors? What shouldn't they miss when they visit Zermatt? I think it's really great to be up high at that cabin where you ski down from the top station you have to keep a little to the right, and then you reach the cabin where Ronnie Scott's Band played. Gandegghütte. Yes! I found that really great, because the stage is piled-up snow with a few wooden pallets and a carpet on top, and then a fantastic jazz band plays on it. World class! You sit back in your deckchair and look at this panorama with the Matterhorn, have something to drink, and listen to jazz - I found it really fantastic. OK then, enjoy yourself in Zermatt! We are really looking forward to your concert.

LINE-UP 2016 EIN GUTER JAHRGANG Das Programm für das Zermatt Unplugged zu gestalten, ist eine besondere Herausforderung. Warum? Nicht jeder Künstler ist in der Lage, seine Musik akustisch zu präsentieren. Das macht die Auswahl noch komplizierter, als sie eh schon ist. Schliesslich geht es darum, bekannte und weniger bekannte Künstler verschiedener Stilrichtungen für Festivalbesucher unterschiedlicher Altersgruppen und Sprachen zu programmieren. Mit James Morrison haben wir einen Künstler, der das Akustische von der Pike auf beherrscht. Juanes ist ein Weltstar. Sein Talent als mitreissender Live-Künstler werden wir gemeinsam erleben dürfen. Simple Minds bescheren uns eine komplette Unplugged-Premiere. Und mit Angus & Julia Stone auf der grossen Bühne erfülle ich mir einen persönlichen Traum. Dass Max Herre uns alle begeistern wird, versteht sich von selbst. Ich möchte euch auch die etwas jüngeren, aufstrebenden SingerSongwriter-Acts ans Herz legen: Fraser Anderson, Yoav, Tom Baxter, Alex Clare, The Slow Show, Xavier Rudd und Jack Savoretti. Dear Musik Lovers! Planning the program of Zermatt Unplugged is a very special challenge. Why? Because not every artist is able to present his music acoustically. This makes the selection more complicated than it already is. In the end, it's a matter of program-
ming well-known and less well-known artists with different styles who will appeal to festival visitors of different age groups and languages. With James Morrison, for example, we have an artist who has mastered acoustic sets from the very start. Juanes is a world star, and we will be able to experience his talent as an exciting live artist together, while Simple Minds are giving a complete Unplugged première to us. And I will be fulfilling a personal dream of mine by bringing Angus & Julia Stone onto the big stage. It goes without saying that Max Herre will excite us all, but I would also like to recommend the somewhat younger, upcoming singer-songwriter acts: Fraser Anderson, Yoav, Tom Baxter, Alex Clare, The Slow Show, Xavier Rudd and Jack Savoretti, who are all bringing moving songs with them.

It was quite cataclysmic when the British musician Alex Clare met Diplo and Switch. The Lateness of the Hour was the name of the début album, which included the song Too Close. The fat beats, the nervous energy, the voice: no wonder the advertising industry wanted to use the song. Top chart rankings in the States, Great Britain, Germany, and Switzerland. The energy-filled début album was followed by the Three Hearts album, this time with classical instrumentation. The songs of Alex Clare absolutely need no underlying dub step. Von Johannes Oerding, dem deutschen PopPoeten, ist folgende Geschichte überliefert: Als Support von Ich + Ich wurde er gebeten, ausnahmsweise nach dem Hauptprogramm zu spielen. Johannes Oerding stürmte auf die Bühne und überzeugte 30000 Konzertbesucher, die ihn nicht kannten, zweieinhalb Stunden zu bleiben. Durch sein erfolgreiches Album Alles brennt – Live in Hamburg ist er auch hierzulande kein Newcomer mehr. Das Konzert am Zermatt Unplugged kann man dennoch mit Spannung erwarten. Es wird sein bis dahin wichtigster Auftritt in der Schweiz.
The following story is related about Johannes Oerding, the German pop poet: as the supporting act of Ich + Ich, he was asked to play the main act as an exception. He stormed onto the stage and convinced 30,000 concertgoers, who did not know him, to stay for two and a half hours. Thanks to his successful album Alles brennt – Live in Hamburg, he is no longer a newcomer in these parts. His concert at Zermatt Unplugged can therefore be looked forward to with much anticipation. It's simply amazing how much productivity and excellence is still at work with Simple Minds. Their thirtieth stage anniversary may already be long behind them, but the band surprised everyone once again with their successful Big Music album in 2014. Sales of more than 60 million recordings, numerous Number 1 albums, and songs like Don't You, Alive And Kicking or Belfast Child: Simple Minds characterised the 80s and 90s with Celtic sounds and political messages. Their concert on the Marquee Stage will be one of the highlights of the ninth Zermatt Unplugged.

Many genres have been presented at Zermatt Unplugged, but we've not had this yet. In the shape of Chris Cornell, the chief architect of grunge steps onto the stage of The Alex. Der Musiker, dessen Stimme als eine der ikonografischsten des Rock gilt, hatte völlig neue Singer- Songwriter-Qualitäten an sich entdeckt: „Es gibt kein Album, das so sehr ich bin.“
Minimalistische, epische Songs, dunkler Americana und eine Stimme, die sich auf die Knochenhaut legt: Es ist ein Feuerwerk der Wertschätzung, das auf die junge Band aus Manchester niederprasselt. Das Publikum ist hypnotisiert, lauscht andächtig, ist zu Tränen gerührt. Das liegt auch am

Seine Lorbeeren hatte sich Anderson schon als Support von Dougie MacLean, Joan Armatrading oder Chuck Berry verdient. Sein Stil wird mit dem eines Nick Drake oder einer Joni Mitchell verglichen.

Die Ronnie Scott’s All Stars sind die Hausband des legendären Londoner Jazz Clubs Ronnie Scott’s und Stammgäste auf der Gandegghütte. Bereits 2014 und 2015 zog es die Briten auf den Berg. Sie wollten zur Abwechslung etwas anderes als „warm, cosy, small and intimate“. Seither können sie nicht genug kriegen von diesem Gefühl am Berg. Wer es etwas gemütlicher mag, hat die Möglichkeit die All Stars im Mont Cervin Palace zu hören.
Ronnie Scott's All Stars is the house band of the legendary Jazz Club, Ronnie Scott's in London, and regular guests at the Gandegghütte. The Brits were already drawn to the mountain in 2014 and 2015. Just for a change, they wanted something different from "warm, cosy, small and intimate." And ever since then they can't get enough of this feeling on the mountain. For those who like things a bit more comfortable, there is also the opportunity to hear the All Stars in the Mont Cervin Palace.

For the first time, Zermatt Unplugged made the trip to Zurich on October 22-24 and made the Kaufleuten culture and event destination appear in a new light. A full house, exciting acoustic concerts, delightful culinary moments, Valais hospitality, enthusiastic festival visitors, artists and partners. More than 25 New Talent concerts and main acts such as Richard Ashcroft, Max Herre & Freunde, and Band of Horses captivated the audiences, and ensured an unforgettable Unplugged feeling in Zurich.
