The North starts in the Pacific, crosses forested deserts, climbs up the Andes through cloud forests, descends to the high forest and begins to fade in the endless jungles of the Amazon plain. On every bend of the road, a new landscape, a new ecosystem, different and unique species of birds, orchids and colorful frogs. TRES NORTES DISTINTOS, TRES MUNDOS DIFERENTES El norte arranca en el Pacífico, cruza desiertos arbolados, asciende a los Andes por bosques de neblina, baja a la selva alta y empieza a diluírse en las florestas infinitas del llano amazónico. Selvas en plural. Desde el llano amazónico, con sus ríos serpenteantes y su manto verde infinito, a las selvas de montaña, con sus cataratas, sus lagunas y sus ríos encañonados. CHACHAPOYAS & THE ANDES
In the Andes of Chachapoyas we can find the perfect balance between archeology, nature and living cultures. Cloud forests embrace the fortified city of Kuelap or the villages of Gran Vilaya. Astonishing waterfalls, as Gocta, flow through endless cliffs, and we can find mausoleums such as Revash, or Karajía sarcophagi, unique in the continent. And, always with us, that feeling of going all over a region where we are true pioneers because tourism, which always ends up invading everything, still has not disembarked here. En los Andes de Chachapoyas encontramos un equilibrio perfecto entre arqueología, naturaleza y culturas vivas. Bosques de neblina acogen la ciudad fortificada de Kuelap o los pueblos del Gran Vilaya. Por interminables acantilados se deslizan cataratas impresionantes, como Gocta, y encontramos mausoleos como Revash, o los sarcófagos de Karajía, únicos en todo el continente. The ancient civilizations of the North Pacific, and especially the Moche, left us the richest archaeological heritage of the Americas, with complexes of pyramids and royal tombs that keep unveiling surprises and discoveries to date. In order to interpret this rich heritage, the contemporary inhabitants of the north coast have built the best museums in South America. But the North Coast is not just archeology; its deserts and dry forests are home to a rich flora and fauna. And its cuisine is probably Peru´s most renowned.

Day 1 / AMAZON VALLEYS AND CANYONS Reception at Tarapoto's airport and departure towards Pumarinri Lodge, following the Mayo and Huallaga valleys and canyons, stopping at the spots of major scenic or ecological interest en route. Arrival at Pumarinri Lodge. Afternoon walk on the Coca Circuit and other trails and free time to enjoy the lodge pools. Dinner. Overnight in Pumarinri Lodge.
Día 1 / VALLES Y CAÑONES AMAZÓNICOSRecepción en el aeropuerto de Tarapoto y salida en dirección al Pumarinri Lodge, siguiendo el curso de los ríos Mayo y Huallaga, sus valles y cañones, y parando en los lugares de mayor interés ecológico y paisajístico de la ruta. Llegada al Pumarinri Lodge. Caminata por el Circuito de la Coca y otros senderos circundantes y tiempo libre para disfrutar de las piscinas del lodge. Cena. Percnocte en Pumarinri Lodge.
Day 2 / RAINFOREST, WATERFALLS AND MIGHTY RIVERS Breakfast. Morning hike through the Amazon rainforest, observing a variety of forest features from palm trees, vines, epiphytes and hardwood trees to bullet ants, morpho butterflies and poison dart frogs. At the end of this walk we'll have a refreshing swim at Pucayaquillo waterfalls. Lunch. In the afternoon, boat trip along the Huallaga river, between the Estero and Chumia rapids and a forest walk on Cordillera Azul N.P. Dinner. Overnight in Pumarinri Lodge.
Día 2 / SELVAS, CASCADAS Y RÍOS CAUDALOSOS Desayuno. Caminata a través de la selva amazónica, observando su diversidad de especies botánicas, como palmeras, trepadoras, epífitas y árboles forestales, así como hormigas bala, mariposas morfo y ranas venenosas. Al final de este paseo tendremos un refrescante baño en las cataratas de Pucayaquillo. Almuerzo. Por la tarde, paseo en lancha por el río Huallaga, entre los rápidos Estero y Chumía, con una incursión por el bosque del P.N. Cordillera Azul. Cena. Pernocte en Pumarinri Lodge.
Day 3 / AMAZON PEOPLES AND CULTURES Breakfast and depart towards Chasuta, a native village on the Huallaga River banks, to visit the native pottery centre, Wasichay, and a community chocolate workshop. After that, boat ride to visit an organic cocoa plantation at Shilcayo river island. We'll also learn about other tropical crops and a sustainable use of the rainforest. Snack box en route. Return to Pumarinri, lunch, free late afternoon and dinner. Overnight in Pumarinri Lodge. Day 4 / FROM THE AMAZON TO THE ANDES Breakfast and early depart towards the Andes. First stop at Moyobamba to visit an orchid botanical garden. Second stop at the Marvelous spatuletail visitors centre, where we'll be able to watch this amazing hummingbird amongst many other colourful species. Boxed lunch. We'll finally see the sunset in front of Gocta waterfalls, one of the highest in the world, in the heart of the Peruvian northern Andes. Dinner. Overnight in Gocta Lodge. THE ANDES OF CHACHAPOYAS Day 5 / GOCTA WATERFALLS Breakfast. From Gocta Lodge there's an amazing view of the waterfalls, but the trail leading to them is even more breathtaking. It's a two hour hike (each way), crossing Andean orchards and a lush gallery forest. There's the option to do this trail on horseback. Lunch at the lodge, free afternoon, dinner. Overnight in Gocta Lodge. Day 6 / KUELAP FORTRESS Breakfast. We'll start driving along the Utcubamba valley, between bromeliads and cacti, and at Tingo we'll begin to climb to Kuelap, crossing traditional Andean villages, to finally reach the fortress at 3,000 m.a.s.l. Guided visit to Kuelap archaeological site. Lunch at the village of Maria. Return to Gocta Lodge, dinner. Overnight in Gocta Lodge. Day 7 / LEYMEBAMBA'S MAUSOLEUMS AND MUMMIES Breakfast and departure towards the high Utcubamba valley. On the road to Leymebamba we'll stop to visit Revash mausoleums, a two hour hike. Back on the road again, we'll be at Leymebamba for lunch and an afternoon visit to the Mummies Museum. Return to Gocta for dinner. Overnight in Gocta Lodge. Continues >>
Día 3 / PUEBLOS Y CULTURAS AMAZÓNICAS Desayuno y salida hacia Chasuta, pueblo nativo a orillas del río Huallaga, para visitar el centro de cerámica nativa Wasichay y un taller de chocolate. Paseo en lancha para visitar una plantación de cacao orgánico en la Isla Shilcayo, donde también conoceremos otros cultivos tropicales y el uso sostenible de la selva tropical. Snack box. Regreso a Pumarinri, almuerzo, tarde libre y cena. Pernocte en Pumarinri Lodge. Día 4 / DE LA AMAZONÍA A LOS ANDES Desayuno y salida temprana hacia los Andes. Paramos en Moyobamba para visitar un jardín botánico de orquídeas. Segunda parada en el centro de observación del Colibrí Cola de Espátula, donde podremos ver este increíble colibrí y muchas otras coloridas especies. Almuerzo. Llegada a Gocta Lodge para ver la puesta de sol frente a las cataratas de Gocta, una de las más altas del mundo, en el corazón de los Andes del norte del Perú. Cena. Dinner. Pernocte en Gocta Lodge. LOS ANDES DE CHACHAPOYAS Día 5 / LAS CATARATAS DE GOCTA Desayuno. Desde Gocta Lodge hay una vista espectacular de las cataratas y el camino que conduce a ellas es también muy impresionante. Es una caminata de dos horas, primero cruzando huertos andinos para luego penetrar en un bosque lleno de bromelias y orquídeas. Existe la opción de realizar esta ruta a caballo. Almuerzo en el Lodge, tarde libre, cena. Pernocte en Gocta Lodge. Día 6 / LA FORTALEZA DE KUELAP Desayuno. Seguiremos la ruta a lo largo del valle del Utcubamba, entre bromelias y cactus, y en Tingo comenzaremos a subir a Kuélap, cruzando pueblos andinos tradicionales, para finalmente llegar a la fortaleza, a 3.000 m.s.n.m. Visita guiada al yacimiento arqueológico de Kuélap. Almuerzo en el pueblo de María. Retorno a Gocta Lodge, cena. Pernocte en Gocta Lodge. Día 7 / MAUSOLEOS Y MOMIAS DE LEYMEBAMBA Desayuno y salida hacia el valle del Alto Utcubamba. En el camino a Leymebamba visitaremos los mausoleos de Revash. Después almorzaremos y por la tarde visitaremos una de las colecciones de momias más grandes de America, descubiertas en 1999 en la Laguna de Los Cóndores, en el Museo de las Momias. programs / / programAs: NORTH PERU TOURS Day 8 / KARAJIA'S SARCOPHAGI Breakfast and tour to Luya Valley. Chachapoyas culture was the only one in the Americas to build sarcophagi for burials, which are located on massive cliffs, often carved and decorated. We will visit Karajia's sarcophagi. In the afternoon we'll visit the colonial capital of this region, Chachapoyas. Dinner. Overnight in Gocta Lodge.
Día 8 / LOS SARCÓFAGOS DE KARAJIA Desayuno y visita al Valle de Luya. La cultura Chachapoyas fue la única en el continente americano en construir sarcófagos para sus difuntos, a menudo pintados y decorados, y ubicados en acantilados, como los de Karajía. Por la tarde visitaremos la capital colonial de esta región, Chachapoyas. Retorno al Lodge y cena. Pernocte en Gocta Lodge.
THE PACIFIC & THE MOCHE ROUTE EL PACIFICO Y LA RUTA MOCHE Day 9 / DOWN TO THE DESERT OF THE PYRAMIDS Breakfast and early departure towards Lambayeque. Stop at Abra Porculla, the lowest Andean mountain pass from the Caribbean to Patagonia. Boxed lunch. Arrival at Los Horcones de Tucume Hotel. Visit to Tucume Pyramids (the largest pyramid complex in the Americas) and museum. Dinner. Overnight in Los Horcones. Day 10 / THE LORD OF SIPAN Breakfast and departure to visit Tumbas Reales Museum, in Lambayeque town, where the Lord of Sipan is exhibited. Lunch in Pimentel, in front of the sea, when the fishermen come ashore on the reed rafts known as Caballitos de Totora. Afternoon visit to Huaca Rajada and back to Los Horcones. Dinner. Overnight in Los Horcones. Day 11 / EL BRUJO, SEÑORA DE CAO AND CHAN CHAN Breakfast and departure towards Trujillo. Visit to El Brujo & Señora de Cao museum and archaeological site. Lunch at Huanchaco coastal town and afternoon visit to Chan Chan mud brick citadel. Dinner and overnight in Trujillo. Overnight in Trujillo 3* Hotel. Day 12 / COLONIAL TRUJILLO AND HUACA DE LA LUNA Breakfast. Morning visit to Huaca de la Luna archaeological site and museum. Walking city tour around Trujillo colonial centre. Transfer to airport or bus terminal.
Día 9 / HACIA EL DESIERTO DE LAS PIRÁMIDES Desayuno y salida temprana hacia Lambayeque. Parada en Abra Porculla, el cruce de los Andes de menor altura desde el Caribe hasta la Patagonia. Almuerzo. Llegada al hotel Los Horcones de Túcume. Visita del complejo de Túcume (la mayor concentración de pirámides de América) y su museo. Cena. Pernocte en Los Horcones. Día 10 / EL SEÑOR DE SIPANDesayuno y salida al Museo Tumbas Reales, en la ciudad de Lambayeque, donde el Señor de Sipán es exhibido. Almuerzo en Pimentel, frente al mar, cuando los pescadores llegan a la costa en sus caballitos de totora. Por la tarde visita a Huaca Rajada y regreso a Los Horcones. Cena. Pernocte en Los Horcones. Día 11 / EL BRUJO, SEÑORA DE CAO Y CHAN CHAN Desayuno y salida hacia Trujillo. Visita al complejo del Brujo y la Señora de Cao. Almuerzo en la ciudad costera de Huanchaco y posterior visita a la ciudadela de Chan Chan, construida en adobe. Cena y alojamiento en Trujillo. Pernocte en Hotel 3* de Trujillo . Día 12 / TRUJILLO COLONIAL Y HUACA DE LA LUNA Desayuno. Por la mañana visitaremos la Huaca de la Luna y su museo. Después conoceremos el centro colonial de Trujillo en un city tour a pie. Day 5 / GOCTA WATERFALLS Breakfast. From Gocta Lodge there's an amazing view of the waterfalls, but the trail leading to them is even more breathtaking. It's a two hour hike (each way), crossing Andean orchards and a lush gallery forest. There's the option to do this trail on horseback. Lunch at the lodge, free afternoon, dinner. Overnight in Gocta Lodge.
Día 5 / LAS CATARATAS DE GOCTA Desayuno. Desde Gocta Lodge hay una vista espectacular de las cataratas y el camino que conduce a ellas es también muy impresionante. Day 6 / KUELAP FORTRESS Breakfast. We'll start driving along the Utcubamba valley, between bromeliads and cacti, and at Tingo we'll begin to climb to Kuelap, crossing traditional Andean villages, to finally reach the fortress at 3,000 m.a.s.l. Guided visit to Kuelap archaeological site. Lunch at the village of Maria. Return to Gocta Lodge, dinner. Overnight in Gocta Lodge. Day 7 / LEYMEBAMBA'S MAUSOLEUMS AND MUMMIES Breakfast and departure towards the high Utcubamba valley. On the road to Leymebamba we'll stop to visit Revash mausoleums, a two hour hike. Back on the road again, we'll be at Leymebamba for lunch and an afternoon visit to the Mummies Museum. Return to Gocta for dinner. Overnight in Gocta Lodge. Day 8 / KARAJIA'S SARCOPHAGI Breakfast and tour to Luya Valley. Chachapoyas culture was the only one in the Americas to build sarcophagi for burials, which are located on massive cliffs, often carved and decorated. We will visit Karajia's sarcophagi. In the afternoon we'll visit the colonial capital of this region, Chachapoyas. Dinner. Overnight in Gocta Lodge. THE AMAZON Day 9 / FROM THE ANDES TO THE AMAZON Breakfast and early depart towards the lowlands. First stop at the Marvelous spatuletail visitors centre, where we'll be able to watch this amazing hummingbird amongst many other colourful species. Second stop at Moyobamba to visit an orchid botanical garden. Boxed lunch. We'll finally reach Pumarinri Lodge, following the Mayo and Huallaga valleys and canyons. Dinner. Overnight in Pumarinri Lodge. Day 10 / RAINFOREST, WATERFALLS AND MIGHTY RIVERS Breakfast. Morning hike through the Amazon rainforest, observing a variety of forest features from palm trees, vines, epiphytes and hardwood trees to bullet ants, morpho butterflies and poison dart frogs. At the end of this walk we'll have a refreshing swim at Pucayaquillo waterfalls. Lunch. In the afternoon, boat trip along the Huallaga river, between the Estero and Chumia rapids and a forest walk on Cordillera Azul N.P. Dinner. Overnight in Pumarinri Lodge. Day 11 / AMAZON PEOPLES AND CULTURES Breakfast and depart towards Chasuta, a native village on the Huallaga River banks, to visit the native pottery centre, Wasichay, and a community chocolate workshop. After that, boat ride to visit an organic cocoa plantation at Shilcayo river island. We'll also learn about other tropical crops and a sustainable use of the rainforest. Snack box en route. Return to Pumarinri, lunch, free late afternoon and dinner. Overnight in Pumarinri Lodge. Después almorzaremos y por la tarde visitaremos una de las colecciones de momias más grandes de América, descubiertas en 1999 en la Laguna de Los Cóndores, en el Museo de las Momias. Retorno a Gocta para la cena. Pernocte en Gocta Lodge. Día 8 / LOS SARCÓFAGOS DE KARAJIADesayuno y visita al Valle de Luya. La cultura Chachapoyas fue la única en el continente americano en construir sarcófagos para sus difuntos, a menudo pintados y decorados, y ubicados en acantilados, como los de Karajía. (Nota: Los horarios son aproximados y dependen del paso de cada persona) Día 4 - Full day Fortaleza de Kuélap y Chachapoyas 07:00 Desayuno y salida (8:00) en dirección a Kuélap, visitando los pintorescos pueblos andinos de la ruta. 10:30 Llegada al estacionamiento de la fortaleza y caminata de unos 15 minutos hasta la entrada. Visita guiada a Kuélap. 14:00 Almuerzo en la localidad de María o box lunch. 15:00 Salida en dirección a Chachapoyas. 17:00 Llegada a Chachapoyas, tiempo libre para visitar esta ciudad colonial. 19:00 Retorno al lodge, cena y pernocte Día 5 – Leymebamba, Museo de las Momias, Mercado de Yerbabuena (domingos) y Revash 07:00 Desayuno y salida (8:00) en dirección a Leymebamba, visitando el típico mercado de Yerbabuena si coincide con domingo. 10:30 Visita a los mausoleos de Revash 14:00 Almuerzo en la localidad de Leymebamba. 15:00 Visita guiada al Museo de las Momias. 16:00 Retorno a Gocta, cena y pernocte Día 6 - Valle de Luya: Karajía y Quiocta 07:00 Desayuno y salida (8:00) en dirección a Cruzpata, desde donde caminaremos a los sarcófagos de Karajía. 13:00 Almuerzo en un restaurante típico de Lámud, para posteriormente dirigirnos a las cavernas de Quiocta. 16:00 Retorno a Gocta, cena y pernocte. Day 8 - Gocta - Pomacochas - Tarapoto 07:00 Breakfast and departure (8:00) towards the Marvelous Spatuletail Centre, where we'll be able to appreciate several hummingbird species and other birds and local flora. 10:00 We retake the road towards Tarapoto, crossing again the Pomacochas Lagoon and the Alto mayo forests. Box lunch on route. 15:00 Arrival at Tarapoto and transfer to the airport. In case of late flights, free use of Tucan Suites swimming pool and facilities will be allowed.
Día 8- Gocta - Pomacochas - Tarapoto 7:00 Desayuno y salida (8:00) en dirección al Centro de Observación del Colibrí Cola de Espátula. Observación de varias especies de aves y colibríes, además de la flora local. 10:00 Salida en dirección a Tarapoto, pasando por la laguna de Pomacochas y el Alto Mayo, con box lunch en el camino. 15:00 Llegada a Tarapoto y traslado al aeropuerto, pudiendo hacer uso de la piscina e instalaciones de Tucan Suites si el vuelo es en la noche.
