MISSION STATEMENT We, the parish family of Transfiguration Roman Catholic Church, built on the strong foundation of our coal mining community heritage, from the ashes of our fire, and guided by the Holy Spirit, seek to provide a warm, inviting, and welcoming environment where the values and teachings of our Catholic faith are celebrated and nurtured. Sacrament of Baptism Baptisms after the 10 AM Sunday Mass. Call the parish office to schedule. Sacrament of Confirmation Preparation for Confirmation is held within the Religious Education Program. The sacrament is usually conferred in the spring of each year. Sacrament of Marriage Arrangements are made by the couple with the parish priest at least six months before the wedding. Religious Education Transfiguration Parish offers religious education for K-8 grades in public schools. Parish Pastoral & Finance Meeting Wednesday, February 3 at 7:00 PM—Church Meeting Room 1st Friday & 1st Saturday Devotions There will be 1st Friday & 1st Saturday devotions after the 8:00 AM Masses on February 5 & 6. All are welcome to join in praying these special prayers and devotions. Candlemas Mass Candlemas is a Christian holiday celebrated annually on February 2. It celebrates: the presentation of the child Jesus; Jesus’ first entry into the temple; and it celebrates the Virgin Mary’s purification. Fr. Jim will bless the candles at our morning 8:00 AM weekday Mass on Tuesday, February 2 to celebrate this tradition. Flower Memorial Donation The flower arrangement in front of the Blessed Virgin Mary this weekend, January 30 & 31, were donated “In Loving Memory of Leslie Nycz Brody” by her mother, Gert Nycz, and the Page, Gruden and Brody Families. We thank them for their generosity. You have the opportunity weekly to donate any of the flower arrangements on the altar or on each side of the Mary and Joseph Statues to memorialize a loved one, celebrate an occasion, or honor an individual / organization, etc. Contact the parish office for more information or pick up a flower memorial donation form in the mailbox bin on the table outside the meeting room. Transfiguration honors our Scouts! On Sunday, February 7th, Transfiguration Parish will be honoring the Boy scouts and Girl scouts. We invite all scouts to dress in uniform and proceed in with Fr. Jim at the 10:00 AM Mass. March & April Ministry Schedules All Lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, Altar Servers and parish organizations are reminded that the cutoff date to submit scheduling requests for the March and April Ministry schedules will be February 5. The March Schedule will include all Masses and Services for Holy week and Easter. If there are specific Masses that you want to be scheduled for, or specific dates on which you will not be available to serve, please call or email your requests to Joe Smagala no later than Friday, February 5th.
