California, USA Ariel Chardonnay has a distinctive combination of buttery apple and butterscotch characteristics combined with a toasty French oak bouquet and should continue to develop complexity as it ages.

South Australia, Australia Jasmine and orange blossom, along with lemon and lime characters leap from the glass. The sugar-acid balance from this fine vintage is unparalleled. While both are present, they manage to meld together creating a mouth-watering yet supple sherbet character, which finishes dry and mineral, not cloying in the slightest.

Mosel, Germany This is classic Mosel Riesling with a fresh lemony fragrance on the nose. On the palate there is an amazingly complex balance of many different factors - fresh acidity and off-dry sweetness – slate driven mineral texture and low alcohol - fresh fruit and a deep oily complexity. Poise and depth.

Red Wine 180.

181.

United States of America, California Ariel oak-aged Cabernet Sauvignon offers aromas of black currants, cherry, blueberries and chocolate, with soft tannins and a dry finish.

Devon, England This has a greater proportion of Pinot Noir than the previous vintage which has produced more red fruit characters of cherry and hints of strawberry. Subtle use of oak produces light cedar aromas.

There are a lot of very fine South African Chenins around these days, but Ken Forrester's flagship Stellenbosch rendition retains its position at the top of the tree. It's an uncompromisingly rich, weighty and textured white, just off-dry thanks to the addition of a portion of late-harvested, botrytised wine in the final blend, and so impressive with its honeyed apple, honeysuckle, and almonds, and that lovely, crisp, green apple acidity. 151.

2013

Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars is famous as the winery that beat Bordeaux’s best in 1976’s Judgement of Paris, a moment which transformed the image of Californian wine around the world. Fast forward nearly 40 years, and the winery is still producing finely honed Chardonnay like Karia, a wine which opens with aromas of peach, yellow apple, spice and a pleasing sweet cream vanilla note. The palate is alive with citrus and light honey notes that lead to a lingering, fresh, minerally finish. 152.

2009

Well developed with ripe, tropical fruit on the nose and an enticing note of honey leading to an intense and concentrated palate with well balanced acidity and a crisp, clean, lengthy finish. 153.

2013

Wonderfully opulent and perfumed on the nose with dollops of honey allied to blossom and spicy complexity. The palate is rich and full again with great acidity, giving the wine and exceptional balance, and we suspect longevity. 154.

2012

Intense aromas of apple, pear and zesty citrus fruit combine with creaminess and a notion of minerality. Remarkably concentrated and powerful for a Puligny with intense fruit framed by oak and a pervasive, underlying minerality. 155.

2007

Very attractive and already, quite powerful on the nose. A full bodied wine with intensity, depth and a beautiful mineral flavour. Rich, ripe acidity on the palate. Great personality and finesse.

2010

This wine has a complex nose of mint, blackcurrant and chocolate and the palate is juicy and ripe. There is a good layer of toasty oak in the background to complement the black cherry and cassis fruit flavours and grippy mid-palate tannin. Very long, clean and elegant on the finish.

A clear, ruby-red wine with violet highlights. Its vinous bouquet is fruity, very intense and rather attractive and persistent. Nicely dry, well-balanced and velvety, it has a light almond aftertaste. 394.

2013

Made by possibly the nicest guy in the wine world this Grenache exhibits complex aromas of liquorice, roasted herbs, sweet cassis and cherries, smoked meat, and spices. A light style of Garnacha offering an elegant, surprisingly silky and vibrant wine which also happens to be Organic. 395.

The nose has notes of blackberries, the briar patch, cedar, dried herbs and a hint of smoky black tea. The palate is structured and refreshingly generous with additional flavors of dried plums, cherry and cola. The well-knit tannins and pleasant mouthwatering acidity support a persistent finish laced with rich notes of cedar and vanilla. 401.

2003

Sexy aromas of dark berries, cassis and kirsch, hints of chocolate and mocha. The palate offers ripe fruit, bedded in finely knitted ripe tannins. All these combine to assail the palate with a level of density, structure and viscosity to offer an outstanding mouth-feel. A liquid velvet texture is transformed by a rocky, minerally element. A complete wine with a classic elegance and excellent finish. 402.

2010

A darker and more restrained nose than most Pinots. Rather than a panoply of mixed fruits, this is more dense and complex, with smoked meats, blueberry, ironstone, black olive, and a touch of Chinese five spice. A singular style with an exciting range of flavours. Tannins are quite firm on the back palate at the moment, and will soften with age. 403.

2011

Deep garnet in the glass with an intense black cherry and vanilla bouquet. On the palate it is full bodied, rich and creamy with smooth tannins. At 16% alcohol, it should really be a monster; in reality it is fantastically balanced with a minerality which keeps it fresh and dangerously moreish. 404.

2011

Stunning Pinot Noir from one of the rising stars of Burgundy. Thier wines never fail to impress. This vintage shows lovely fleshy fruit with the classic elegance of fruit. Get hold of some before it is all gone. 405.

406.

407.

Beautiful dark red colour with a rich concentration of fresh raspberries and black cherries, coupled with violet and earthy mineral notes.

Intensely purple/black in colour, almost opaque. The nose is a concentrated wall of spices, mineral tones and dark berry fruits. Deeply concentrated, tight and seriously well structured, the palate is immense in its breadth and length showing a wealth of blackberry, fruits of the forest and spiced, wooded flavours. The firm finish means you won't forget this one easily.

Exhibits a dense, almost opaque colour with gorgeous up-front, sweet, ripe fruit. The palate is medium to full bodied and chewy with a well endowed, plush texture. The wine is pure, complex and engaging. 408.

2010

The intense and brilliant colour perfectly expresses the polyphenols of a very successful Nebbiolo. On the nose it develops gradually its richness; the initially fruity and spicy aromas envelop notes of sour cherry and raspberry, while hints of cocoa and vanilla make the bouquet even more intriguing.

Intense flavours of ripe dark cherry and black currant with thick tannins which provide the wine with a beautiful structure. Finish is long and strong, with mature wooden notes. A beautiful and typical well-made, high-class Saint-Julien.

Smoky ripe blackcurrants and sexy integrated sweet oak on the enticing nose is followed by a dense but pure palate with full-bodied fruit and a defined linear core. It is elegant and sophisticated with great charm-one of the great value wines of the 2004 vintage.

A really authentic Margaux with impressive depth. This is an elegant wine in the true Margaux style. Soft, silky tannins, smooth red fruit character. Nicely spicy from the moderate use of new oak, fresh, fleshy, polished and round. Beautifully done, this is a delicious and genuine wine for early drinking pleasure.

A single vineyard, estate grown wine from Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars, the winery which put California on the wine map in 1976 when it beat Bordeaux’s best in a blind tasting competition which became known as the Judgement of Paris. The fruit for this Cabernet Sauvignon was sourced from the SLV Vineyard, one of the great sites in the Napa Valley; the ripe, complex grapes add vibrant chocolate-covered cherry aromas along with notes of roasted chestnuts, black tea with clove spice. The wine has a lovely core of red berry fruit along with rich tannins and a haunting cardamom note on the finish. The wine’s solid, well-balanced structure makes this an ideal choice for long term ageing. 413.

2007

Almost as good as their awe-inspiring 2005. Since winemaker Nicolas Labenne joined Lynch-Bages from Calon-Ségur the wines here have been better than ever; no longer the `poor man's Mouton' but increasingly almost as good! Impressive, aethereal aromatics and some serious minerally cassis set the tone for this rich, silky-textured Pauillac with oodles of sweet black cherry and blackberry essence and coffee hints. With George Clooney-like charm, a ripe but substantial tannic structure, and an intense, mouthwatering long finish this respects the vintage but definitely outperforms it.

LBV Port, Quinta do Crasto

This late bottled Vintage shows brooding black cherry fruit with a huge cedary core. A simple wine with a fine dark colour, ripe and mouth filling and rounded off by sweet finish.

An exceptionally fine old tawny blend, aged for an average of 10 years in oak casks. Elegant and smooth, combining delicate wood notes and rich mellow fruit, it is bottled for immediate drinking.

507.

Shows intense berry fruit aromas and a full-bodied structure, with plenty of grip, mouthfilling blackcurrant flavours, fine balance and terrific length.

Sherry 510.

511.

512.

NV

Fresh on the nose with typical Manzanilla aromas. Green olives, chamomile and a yeastiness of flor. Gently briney, with notes of flowers and fruits in the background. On the palate it is medium in body, very dry and slightly tangy with hints of chalk, salt and lime. Light breadcrust and minerals aromas present, as well as subtle nutty flavours. Medium long finish, still full and nicely balanced.

Amber in colour with complex, intense, saline aromas of hazelnuts and bitter almonds. Bone-dry and goes on...and on...and on...

Deep ebony with dense aromas of raisins, dates and honey. The palate is unctuous and complex with a long, candied fruit finish.

Grappa 520.

521.

522.

523.

Typical and elegant. Before tasting, Grappa should be allowed to rest in the glass for some minutes: on exposure to oxygen the perfumes are enhanced and the nose/palate harmony is perfected.

Elegant, aromatic, soft and sensual with the perfume of roses, thyme and vanilla.

Amber, luminous and enveloping. Possessing great aromatic richness, a scent of spices, brioche and pastries, orange and candied friuts. Warm, velvety and persistant, its aromatic shades are backed up with additional apricot friut notes, vanilla and bitter almond.

Considered “the Queen of Grappa” all over the world, for the temper, the harmony and the emotion it gives at every sip. Limpid and crystalline, it recalls to the nose the smell of fresh honeycomb, it displays the scent of acacia flowers, ripe quince, fresh muscatel and newly picked figs. In one’s mouth it clearly confirms the nose with the addition of a taste of bread crust. ‘’ Conversation is the enemy of good wine and food. ‘’ Alfred Hitchcock
