The tale of Clos Pissarra is rooted in a small circle of friends who simply yearned for a manner of returning to their European roots. Their mutual dream began to ferment during a late afternoon lunch at the Basque restaurant, Piperade, on a balmy day back in 2003. The opportunity to purchase a Spanish vineyard in Montsant, just outside Barcelona had arisen and was excitably discussed amongst Master Sommelier and proprietor of Miura Vineyards, Emmanuel Kemiji, Chefs Gerald Hirigoyen, Sylvain Portay and Laurent Manrique. All were enthralled by the romance of owning a vineyard and ultimately producing a wine with their personal signature. By 2005 the concept had turned to reality, with the venture growing to include more friends, significant among them gentlemen Roger Lethander and Bob Hackman. After acquiring several more vineyards in neighboring Priorat, the overall quality and variety of wines had come to represent the fulfillment of their original reverie. The culmination of everyone’s involvement followed in 2010, when the Clos Pissarra winery was designed and built, accomplishing their objective to connect their literal and emotional roots to a project driven by quality and pride.
