NAUGATUCK, CONNECTICUT Dear Parishioners, WE are celebrating the feast of St Francis deSales on January 24. St Francis deSales was born to a noble family at Chateau deSales in the Kingdom of Savoy near Geneva, Switzerland on August 21, 1567. He was a Bishop and Doctor of the Church. Francis was both intelligent and gentle. From a very early age, he desired to serve God. He knew for years he had a vocation to the Priesthood, but kept it from his family. His father wanted him to enter a career in law and politics. In 1580, Francis attended the University of Paris and at 24yr old, he received his doctorate in law at the University of Padua. God made his will clear to Francis one day while he was riding. Francis fell from his horse 3 times that day. Every time he fell, the sword came out of the scabbard, and every time it came out, the sword and scabbard came to rest on the ground in the shape of the Christian cross. Francis was by nature a very hot tempered. He realized that God is love and he taught that all baptized are called to be Saints. He lived in an era when people thought that it is very difficult to become a Saint and go to Heaven. The 2 famous books—An Introduction to Devout Life and Treatise on the Love of God have changed the lives of so many people. Everyone in his state of life can become a Saint by loving God and living happy. He became the inspiration of many Religious Orders. Don Bosco took him as the patron of his Congregation –and so it is called—The Salesians of Don Bosco after his name. Francis the gentle Bishop is a Model and Teacher for all of us. He used to say that a drop of honey brings more flies than a barrel of vinegar! True. Happy Feast to all! Fr Mathai All bulletin announcements should be turned in by Monday 12Noon
