From Fr. Paul… Dear Friends,

Welcome to New Parishioners No matter what your present status in the Catholic Church, No matter what your current family or marital situation, No matter what your current personal history, age, background, race, etc., No matter what your own self-image; you are invited, welcomed, accepted, loved and respected here at The Collaborative of Saint Francis of Assisi Parish and Saint Joseph Parish. If you are new to the parish, please introduce yourself to a member of the Parish Staff after Mass or at your convenience.

Sacrament of Matrimony Couples should make arrangements with one of our priests or deacon at least six months before the wedding.

Pastoral Care of the Sick and Elderly Please contact the Parish Center Office to make arrangements, if you are going into the hospital, or have a family member who is homebound and would like to receive the Sacrament of the Sick. If a family member cannot come to church and would like to receive Communion at home, please notify us.

Remembering Our Parishes Please consider remembering St. Francis of Assisi Parish, St. Joseph Parish or St. Joseph School when drafting your estate plans. For more information, please call Deacon Bob at 781-396-0423 Ext 112. Thank you.

This weekend, many of you have yellow collection envelopes for the "Grand Annual" collection, which is the annual special fundraising drive for the parishes. However, because of the recent leadership transition from Fr. Ed to me, we are not yet prepared to send the appeal letter to ask for your contribution. That letter will be sent later this Fall, along with a financial report, so that you can learn about how/where your donations are being spent. If you wish to make your contribution this weekend anyway, you may drop it in the regular offertory collection. Or, you can wait until the appeal letter and financial report is published later this Fall. Thank you for your patience and generosity. Why is it so important that each of us contribute to our parishes? Why are we asked to give not only our money but also our time and our talents on a regular basis? Because the Lord wants to do great things through us who have received His baptism. In today's Gospel, He tells us that if we have faith the size of a mustard seed, much can be accomplished. This Gospel passage always makes me think of the Mustard Seed Communities (MSC) in Nicaragua that I visited in 2012 with St. Mary's youth group from Dedham. In only 10 years, MSC established 2 orphanages in Nicaragua for children with serious physical and mental disabilities. We went there to help them, but they helped us, too - we witnessed the miracle of love that was being carried out each day. Despite the challenges they faced, I have rarely met such joyful children and adults as I met in MSC. Let us always remember that we are not alone. When we work together in following the Lord, He is with us. Great things can result from small beginnings, through His grace working in us.

St. Joseph Parish Annual Parish Concert The music ministry invites you to join us on Sunday afternoon, October 23, 2015 at 2PM in the upper church, for our St. Joseph Parish Annual Concert. Both our Adult and Youth Choirs and The Messengers (our young adult music group) will perform, accompanied by organ and instrumentalists, with vocal and instrumental solos, as well as an opportunity for the audience to join with us in singing! This year's program is being dedicated to Prayer for World Peace and a portion of the proceeds from our concert program ad book will be donated to “Doctors Without Borders.” There will be a luncheon in the social center following the concert, catered by Carroll's Restaurant in Medford (kindness of parishioner Victor Garo). Protecting God’s Children Do you, in connection with the staff or volunteer work you do for our parish (or school), interact with children, even if only occasionally? If the answer to this question is YES, the Archdiocese of Boston requires that you attend a VIRTUS “Protecting God’s Children” presentation. This presentation helps all of us become aware of the dangers relating to child abuse. If you are a volunteer or staff member that has not yet attended a Protecting God’s Children presentation you may attend one of the following scheduled sessions: Tue. Oct. 4, 7:00 PM Saint Raphael Parish, 781-488-5444 Thurs. Oct 13, 7:00 PM Saint Francis of Assisi Parish, 781-396-3400 Sat. Nov. 12 9:00 AM Immaculate Conception Parish, 781-324-4941 Please call and pre-register at the location you plan to attend. Thank you!

YOUNG SCHOLARS PROGRAM Did your child miss the September 1, 2016, cutoff for school this year? Does your child show early academic prowess in literacy or mathematics? Then the new Saint Joseph School Young Scholars Program (SJSYSP) may be exactly what your child needs. SJSYSP is designed for children who turn five years old in September, October or November. The program will begin on November 1, 2016, and all applicants will be screened on October 19 or 20. Because this is an accelerated program, there is only a five day/week option and capped enrollment. The tuition for the program is $4,700 and all chosen applicants must register a FACTS Tuition Management account by October 25, 2016. A nonrefundable application fee of $200 will be assessed at the time of the application. Come, discover the value of a Saint Joseph School education. Program tours are forming now. Call us, visit our website or drop by the school.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults RCIA Are you an adult who has not yet been baptized and would like to explore the possibility of being baptized? Are you an adult who was baptized in a nonCatholic Christian community and would be interested in entering into full communion with the Catholic Church? Are you an adult who was baptized in the Catholic Church as a child, never received further faith formation, and would like to pursue reception of the sacraments beyond baptism? If any of these descriptions applies to you, it would be good for you to consider your possible participation in the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults – RCIA. Please feel free to pass this notice on to a family member of friend. The RCIA is the process of spiritual and catechetical formation through which adults decide to be baptized or enter into full communion with the Catholic Church. In the Medford Catholic Collaborative, meetings usually begin in the late fall, with most adults receiving baptism and the other sacraments of initiation at the Easter Vigil. We would like to encourage you to contact us through the Parish Offices for an initial discussion about your particular situation.

Please remember the following people who are in need of prayers: Mary Abbot, Laurie Ansaldi Atkinson, Frank Carew, Theresa O’Brien Carew, Sr. Eileen Corbert CSJ, Sr. Waltrude Dennis CSJ, Pasqualina DeSimone, Joe Gorse, Paula McGee, Torbert Prior, Thomas J.
