You may have looked at the board, in the Gathering Space, with our parish totals for the diocesan capital campaign Rooted in Faith, Rejoice in Hope. This campaign officially ended on December 31st. I am so very grateful for the tremendous generosity of so many of you in making a contribution to this campaign. Our total of $778,094.00 is 81% of our parish goal of $959,840.00. 265 donors made a gift/pledge which is 32% participation. Among the six parishes in Rochester, we are third in terms of reaching our goal and second in terms of our participation rate. That is truly tremendous! Thank you once again! Last year, as you recall, the Annual Diocesan Appeal was rolled into the capital campaign. This year I will be asking you to participate in this year’s appeal. That will happen in March, somewhere around the beginning of Lent. I am very mindful of how frequently you are being asked to contribute to various collections and appeals. Yet, I continue to be humbly in awe of your ever so generous response, again and again. Please know that every time I ask you to contribute, I join in making a personal contribution as well. I do not ask you to do something that I am unwilling to do. Next weekend, at all of the Masses, there will be a second collection. This is the annual collection for the Church in Latin America. The proceeds of this collection help to evangelize and spread the Gospel, in many ways, among our sisters and brothers in Latin America. I ask, please, that you prayerfully consider what you are able to give and then join me in supporting this collection. Thank you! Thank you to all those who helped in taking down the Christmas decorations in church last Sunday! Pax et bonum, Fr. Mark C. McNea

The Dorothy Day Hospitality House wants to thank you for the Christmas gifts that were donated to the house. That was very thoughtful of you and much appreciated by the house. So many are in need of something each day. Thank you again. Thanks to all St Francis parishioners for another successful Advent Angel Tree season. This year you donated gifts for 13 needy families and 5 worthy organizations. Your generosity made a huge difference this past Christmas for dozens of people. Because of you the Advent Angel Tree provides a much needed service to our neighbors in need! The Society of St. Vincent de Paul would like to thank the parish for their financial support in our ministry. For October, November and December of 2013, Vincentians made 44 home visits assisting 33 families and 11 single individuals. We paid $2214 in utility help, $4765 in rent help, $330 food help, $146 misc (insurance, clothing). We Thank You for helping us make it possible to help them!

St. Agnes, whose memorial we celebrate this week, is a special saint for young people. She lived in Rome a long time ago, during a time when the government would kill Christians. Although she was only 12 or 13 years old, she refused to commit idolatry, and gave her life for her faith in Jesus Christ. She is a martyr of purity and an example of courage for all young people. Next week, we will take up the Collection for the Church in Latin America. Catholics in Latin America and the Caribbean face many challenges, including violence and a lack of both clergy and lay leadership to witness to the Gospel message. Your support shares the faith with those in need, including the youth of Holy Family Parish in San Miguel, El Salvador. These young people, at high risk for violence, often lack an education in values and critical-thinking skills. To address this need, the parish designed a youth enrichment program. Funded by the Collection, this program gives the youth an opportunity to share their faith and break the cycle of violence in their neighborhoods. Please give generously to next week's Collection.

Faith Formation Announcement In the coming months, we will be forming a Faith Formation Core Team to advance the goals of faith formation and catechesis at St. Francis of Assisi. The team will meet with Faith Formation and Youth Ministry staff members on a quarterly basis to strategize and pray for the faith formation of the parish. Relevant program areas include children’s faith formation, youth ministry, adult formation, and family formation. The team will seek to support the families of our parish in developing a rich sacramental life, a thorough understanding of Church teaching, and strong personal prayer lives. Parents of Catholic school students, parents of students in our Faith Formation program, and adults interested in furthering adult faith formation are all needed on the team. If you are interested in serving the parish in this way, please contact Miriel Reneau at [email protected], Matthew Edens at [email protected], or either at 507-289-2427.

Pancake Breakfast THIS Sunday! There will be a Pancake breakfast hosted by the Knights of Columbus on Sunday, January 19. Starting after the 8:00 Mass, ending at 12:00. See you there!

Candidates Sought for Pastoral Council! The Rite of Acceptance into the order of Catechumens is an important ritual that takes place during the RCIA process. A Catechumen is someone who has never been baptized in any faith denomination. The person declares his/her intention to the Church, and the Church accepts this person as one who intends to become a member of the Catholic Faith. God showers His grace upon him/her as our community welcomes the person. This weekend at the 4:30PM Mass we welcome Benjamin O’Byrne to our community of St. Francis of Assisi. We pray with him as he continues his journey of faith and looks forward to celebrating the Sacraments of Initiation at the Easter Vigil on April 19.
