Organisational Environment Caritas Australia (CA) is the Catholic agency for international humanitarian relief and development in Australia. Position Impact The Community Participation Leader works both as the Diocesan Director (DD) for the Sydney Archdiocese and as the Community Participation Leader (CPL) – Eastern Region, NSW. The CPL/DD impacts the quality and reach of stronger relationships and partnerships with Diocesan bodies, Parishes, Communities, other groups (e.g. youth) and Catholic agencies. This role facilitates Social Justice and Community Fundraising Programs that communicate CA’s unique perspective for a variety of external audiences, working closely with the region’s Justice Educator(s) on building focused seamless CA’s strategies. Challenges of this role include:   

Working in a decentralised position and providing support to decentralised roles in the region Sustaining existing and developing new networks within the Dioceses and across the Region Developing an inclusive organisational culture that is local as well as national in support of Caritas Australia’s strategic goals.

Major Accountabilities   

 

    

Serve as the Diocesan Director for the Sydney Archdiocese. The DD serves as the critical link between CA and the local diocesan community of parishes, schools, Catholic networks and with the broader Australian community. As the DD, provide coordination of and support to the region’s Diocesan Director network. Contribute to Community Engagement’s Strategy development that would include a national approach to Community Participation; liaise as required with the Community Engagement Resources’ team for the development of resources and workshops to enable the strategy. Lead the development and implementation of the Eastern/ NSW Region Community Participation strategy as part of an integrated regional strategy, developed in consultation with the region’s Justice Educator(s). Collaborate with region’s Justice Educator(s), to ensure integrated and coordinated delivery of regional Fundraising and Advocacy (which are aligned to your region’s strategies; augment by sourcing support from Digital, Content and Advocacy team and Marketing Insights Analyst). Increase profile of Caritas Australia and its work by strengthening relationships and collaborating with local Diocesan networks, capturing the hearts and minds of the parish communities to improve understanding and support to CA’s Mission and Programs. Liaise with the volunteers and supporter projects that expand the reach of Caritas’s grassroots engagement across Australia and manage regional implementation; support development of CA’s evolving Youth leadership and formation programs. Resource planning including accessing support and resources through the Supporter Services team to deliver programs and activities for the Community Participation stream. Apply Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) practices to strategies and programs as developed by the Community Participation team to ensure continuous improvements and understanding of Supporter needs (augment M&E by sourcing support, such as from the Marketing Insights Analyst). Complete quarterly and annual reporting for Eastern/ NSW region as directed by the Manager, Community Engagement. Be attuned to Diocesan bodies, Parishes, and Communities environment and stakeholders for opportunities, following through with recommendations and activities which will heighten partnerships and relationships. Contribute to the delivery of CA’s events and campaigns as required such as Project Compassion and Emergency Appeals as they arise. Apply effective stewardship and management practices by managing and monitoring the allocated Budget. Apply with integrity CA’s Code of Conduct, Policies, Procedures and Guidelines.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience (selection criteria) The successful candidate will demonstrate and provide examples from their professional experience of the following essential skills:  Essential  Minimum of 2-3 years’ experience within a Diocesan or Not-For-Profit environment in community relations, outreach, Parish or Social Ministry.  A strong understanding of, and empathy with the Catholic Church ethos, structures, culture and social justice principles and a commitment to promote the principles of Catholic Social Teaching and Gospel values within the workplace.  Awareness and understanding of the principles of the Catholic Social Teachings’ application to international development.  Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to lead, motivate and inspire a passion for social justice in a variety of audiences; capacity to lead and motivate youth with empathy, diplomacy and understanding.  Demonstrated capability to network and build new relationships with Diocesan Directors, Coordinators, volunteers, and other Catholic Agencies.  Proven track record in effective people and volunteer management; influencing teams for a common purpose and achievement of goals.  Demonstrated experience in the development of strategies and implementation of strategies that have led to improved outcomes.

Capacity to learn about and work in the areas of management, Fundraising, community relations and communications. Flexibility to work outside normal business hours and flexibility and willingness to travel within region. Current Driver’s License.
