“Lift Every Voice and Sing”

NO. 519

*CALL TO WORSHIP The Lord is my light and my salvation. Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my existence. Of whom shall I be afraid? One things I asked of the Lord, this one thing I will seek after: To live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the Lord, and to ask within the temple. For God will hide me and shelter me when trouble comes, setting me in a safe and secure place. Now I will sing and shout for joy to the Lord. Let us worship God together!

*OPENING PRAYER Holy One, Be our light in the darkness. When we can’t make out the path ahead, guide us and direct us. When we are scared or overwhelmed, reassure us and remind us not to be afraid. When we can’t turn our head or our attention toward you, and your glimmer of light; lift us, turn us, reorient us in the directions that bring life and hope and possibility. Be our light in the darkness, in this time of worship and always. Amen.

RESPONDING TO GOD’S PRESENCE OLD TESTAMENT LESSON

Psalm 27:1, 4-9/Isaiah 9:1-2

PRAYER IN THE MIDST THE LORD’S PRAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

OT Pew Bible, Pages 503/638

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen SONGS OF PRAISE (8:30) THE CHILDREN ’S TIME

REBECCA VAUGHN

During the 11:00 a.m. service, children under 10 years old may attend children’s church in the education building. Children who are ages 7 and up are encouraged to remain in worship and participate in “Buzz” Words. You will be told who the “beekeeper” for the day is and you are to write 10 words you hear during the scripture/sermon, and then after the service, take them to the “beekeeper” to get your prize. We at OUMC encourage parents to allow others in the congregation to teach your children how to worship by allowing them to stay in worship and participate during this time.
