This year of 2015-2016, our parish theme is I know well the plans I have in mind for you, says the LORD, … plans to give you a future full of hope. Jer 29:11

the Eucharist. This direction of intention is how we live the priesthood of the baptized. The prophetic mission of our baptism is shown in our teaching others the truth revealed by God. This teaching is quite often a reminder of a truth already known.

All Saints is a tithing parish, giving of our time, talent, and treasure so as to give glory to God.

In ancient times, a king was responsible for the welfare of his subjects. The kingly or royal mission of the baptized is to act in service and charity towards others. We overcome sin in our life in order to allow this service to flourish.

The priests of the parish thank you for the cards, notes, gifts, and goodies that you gave during the Christmas season. May God bless you in this new year. A happy and blessed new year!

Do not wait for others to live the Christian life. Undertake the priestly, prophetic, and royal mission of your baptism to make known the in-breaking of God’s Kingdom.

The Feast of the Baptism of the Lord is the end of the Christmas season this year. Jesus in his baptism by John in the Jordan River was anointed with the Holy Spirit. An anointing with oil is a biblical notion, taken from the Old Testament. Priests, prophets, and kings in the Old Testament were anointed as a sign of their being conferred with a specific role or mission. The baptism of Jesus is the beginning of his Public Ministry and the conferral of his mission. His mission is to preach, teach, and heal, as an announcement of the in-breaking of the Kingdom of God into humanity. We, too, when baptized, are given a share in Christ’s mission as priest, prophet, and king. The Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC) tells us, that in Baptism, The anointing with sacred chrism, perfumed oil consecrated by the bishop, signifies the gift of the Holy Spirit to the newly baptized, who has become a Christian, that is, one “anointed” by the Holy Spirit, incorporated into Christ who is anointed priest, prophet, and king. (CCC, #1241) The 2nd Vatican Council describes the common priesthood of the faithful (which differs from the ministerial priesthood of Holy Orders): But the faithful, in virtue of their royal priesthood, join in the offering of the Eucharist. They likewise exercise that priesthood in receiving the sacraments, in prayer and thanksgiving, in the witness of a holy life, and by self-denial and active charity. (Lumen Gentium, #10) At Sunday Mass, the baptized person unites his or her joys and sufferings, thanksgiving and struggles, with the sacrifice of Jesus, which the ordained priest offers at the altar. We are then fed in Holy Communion to receive Jesus so that we can live out the 7 days until the next Sunday celebration of

Please join with us for the 2016 March for Life. Let us know if you would like bus transportation to the March, returning to All Saints Catholic Church. Buses will load and depart after 9:30 am Mass, returning by about 6:00 pm, depending on traffic. Contact via email (allsaintsmarch @ gmail . com ) or leave a message (703-380-3927 (cell)), or complete the sign-up sheet available in the church narthex. Minors (under age 18) must be either: (1) accompanied by their parent, or (2) have a signed permission slip from a parent, designating another adult on the March who be the adult chaperone for that child. America needs no words from me to see how your decision in Roe v. Wade has deformed a great nation. The so-called right to abortion has pitted mothers against their children and women against men. It has sown violence and discord at the heart of the most intimate human relationships. It has aggravated the derogation of the father’s role in an increasingly fatherless society. It has portrayed the greatest of gifts — a child — as a competitor, an intrusion, and an inconvenience. It has nominally accorded mothers unfettered dominion over the independent lives of their physically dependent sons and daughters. And, in granting this unconscionable power, it has exposed many women to unjust and selfish demands from their husbands or other sexual partners. Human rights are not a privilege conferred by government. They are every human being’s entitlement by virtue of his humanity. The right to life does not depend, and must not be declared to be contingent, on the pleasure of anyone else, not even a parent or a sovereign.” (Mother Teresa -—“Notable and Quotable,” Wall Street Journal, 2/25/94, p. A14)

5. Only for today, I will devote 10 minutes of my time to some good reading, remembering that just as food is necessary to the life of the body, so good reading is necessary to the life of the soul.

The Church’s holiness and human wisdom are expressed in what is called “the daily decalogue of Pope [Saint] John XXIII”:

6. Only for today, I will do one good deed and not tell anyone about it.

1. Only for today, I will seek to live the livelong day positively without wishing to solve the problems of my life all at once.

7. Only for today, I will do at least one thing I do not like doing; and if my feelings are hurt, I will make sure that no one notices.

2. Only for today, I will take the greatest care of my appearance: I will dress modestly; I will not raise my voice; I will be courteous in my behavior; I will not criticize anyone; I will not claim to improve or to discipline anyone except myself.

8. Only for today, I will make a plan for myself: I may not follow it to the letter, but I will make it. And I will be on guard against two evils: hastiness and indecision.

3. Only for today, I will be happy in the certainty that I was created to be happy, not only in the other world but also in this one. 4. Only for today, I will adapt to circumstances, without requiring all circumstances to be adapted to my own wishes.

9. Only for today, I will firmly believe, despite appearances, that the good providence of God cares for me as no one else who exists in this world. 10. Only for today, I will have no fears. In particular, I will not be afraid to enjoy what is beautiful and to believe in goodness. Indeed, for 12 hours I can certainly do what might cause me consternation were I to believe I had to do it all my life. To conclude: here is an all-embracing resolution: “I want to be kind, today and always, to everyone.” L’Osservatore Romano November 8, 2006

The St. Lucy Project of Catholic Charities, Diocese of Arlington, is working hard to distribute much needed food to Partner Pantries in the 21 counties of the Arlington Diocese. We have a great need for volunteers to assist in unloading food donations at our Manassas Warehouse. Most deliveries are on Sunday afternoons from 1:30 to 3:30 pm. Individuals and families with children are welcome to lend a hand. Please contact Debra Beard, Volunteer Coordinator (dbeard @ ccda . net or 703-479-2975 x100). S even S teps

The Manassas Knights of Columbus is pleased to offer all members of All Saints’ Church The Veritas Financial Ministries program known as the 7 Steps to Financial Freedom. In this series you will: 1. Understand that God has a plan for your financial life, and you’ll uncover that plan during the program. 2. Learn how applying God’s principles to your finances makes you a better manager of the resources he has entrusted to you. 3. (If married) Open the lines of communication with your spouse and learn how to get on the same financial page with each other. 4. Create a plan for your financial future. 5. Learn the difference between productive and unproductive debt, and develop a plan to eliminate your unproductive debt in a fraction of the time you think is possible today. 6. Understand how growing in generosity changes your life — financially and otherwise — for the better. 7. Develop a savings and investment strategy that will help you meet your most important financial goals in life. Catholic principles of personal finance are incorporated throughout the program! Fr. Pineda is the spiritual director. The 9-session seminars are completely free; nothing is for sale! An introduction and question-answer session will be held on Tues. Jan. 19 at 7:00 pm at the K of C Hall basement meeting room. Use side door closest to Stonewall Rd. The sessions start on Tues., Feb. 2 at 7:00 pm at the K of C Hall basement meeting room. Use side door closest to Stonewall Rd. The Manassas All Saints team has been teaching this program since 2006 and has augmented the 7-steps information with current topics.
