23RD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME FROM OUR PASTOR Dear Parishioners, This week we said goodbye to a long -time parishioner, Tom Lutkewitte. You would often find Tom in his younger days serving beer for the Variety Guild shows, and, even though he did not have any children, he was very involved in supporting our athletic programs for children through the Men’s Club and then Activities Association. I would kindly ask you to please pray for the repose of his soul and for his wife Liz and family who mourn his loss. One of the things that I have come to learn about Queen of All Saints Parish is that there is seemingly always an activity occurring on our parish grounds. Often times though we really only think of the larger activities such as soccer games, baseball trivia nights, variety guild shows, Home and School meetings; but there are often smaller meetings that seek to meet the needs of our parishioners. One of those just occurred this past Sunday with the meeting of Life After Loss. Through the work of some dedicated parish volunteers, as a parish we reach out to those who have recently lost a loved one, and seek to walk with them through the stages of coping with their loss. This coming weekend, Saturday, September 17-18, we welcome Fr. Miguel de la Calle, IVE, a missionary serving in Papua New Guinea. He is currently one of three priests from his religious order serving the Diocese of Vianiom. Their apostolate provides spiritual care of a 60 kilometres “Parish Area” which extends along the coast of Vanimo. It has five villages (Waromo, Yako, Fichin, Musu and Wutung along the sea coast) and two work stations in the jungle. Father will be preaching at all of the Masses next weekend, and a second collection will be taken up for the support of his missionary work. Through the generosity of a local organ company we are testing a new organ for the next 4 weeks. Our current organ is a little over thirty years old and the technology has changed so much since then. You will notice a clearer sound and sounds that are truer to that of a pipe organ. On the following page you will notice that Archbishop Carlson has asked for a special collection to be taken up for the victims of flooding in Louisiana. This will take place the weekend of September 24-25th. Msgr. Breier

STEWARDSHIP ALIVE

September 2, 2016 Dear brother and sisters, In response to the recent historic flooding, which has affected Louisiana, in union with the USCCB, I am calling for a special collection to be taken up in all parishes in the Archdiocese of St. Louis on the weekend of September 17-18, 2016. These funds will be used to assist flood victims now in the wake of the worst flooding since Hurricane Katrina. As many as 60,000 homes have been damaged and nearly 20,000 people have been rescued from the flood waters. More than 106,000 individuals and families have sought federal disaster aid. I encourage all of the parishes in the Archdiocese to respond generously to assist our brothers and sisters. The special collection will take place the weekend of September 24-25. Sincerely yours in Christ,

Most Reverend Robert J. Carlson

MISSIONARY APPEAL FATHER MIGUEL DE LA CALLE, IVE

The first missionaries in Vanimo PNG were the Passionist, they arrived in 1961 (only 55 years ago). Before they came there was no religion among the natives but just “family belief,” heathenism. We (IVE) have been in Vanimo-Papua New Guinea since 1997 (almost 20 years now). So the work to do still is huge, but in general people are very open and happy to receive Jesus and his Grace! In our Parish Area there are two Primary Schools; “Holy Trinity’s” and “Saint Joseph’s.” In both schools we teach the catechism, work in the administrative board and help with spiritual guidance.

Our Religious Institute We are a missionary Religious family; “Institute of the Incarnate Word” founded in Argentina in 1984 with missions over 37 countries worldwide. Fr. Miguel de la Calle, IVE Missionary in Papua New Guinea [email protected] OUR PARISH FACEBOOK Holy Trinity Parish - Papua New Guinea WEBSITE FOR USA www.iveamerica.org

With God’s grace we have been able to help on a humanitarian level providing food, medication, schools materials, a library, transportation to the hospital, and many activities that help evangelize the culture. We also help as teachers at the Diocesan Seminary, give spiritual assistance to the IVE Sisters and the students of Lujan Home for Girls, and minister to two jungle chapels which don’t have a permanent priest to give them the sacraments.

Since 1922, White House Retreat has been offering 3 day preached retreats throughout the year on their beautiful 80 acre campus located on the bluffs of the Mississippi River. On each retreat four or five priests are available for private conferences and the celebration of the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Anointing of the Sick. Morning Prayer, Mass and Rosary are offered daily, with Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament each evening. Explore the beautiful campus, walk the Way of the Cross, pray/meditate at the outdoor shrines of the Sacred Heart, the Holy Family, Our Lady and St. Joseph. Enjoy the gift of peace and “God freely created us so that we might know, love, and serve him in this life and be happy with him forever. God's purpose in creating us is to draw forth from us a response of love and service here on earth, so that we may attain our goal of everlasting happiness with him in heaven. All the things in this world are gifts of God, created for us, to be the means by which we can come to know him better, love him more surely, and serve him more faithfully. As a result, we ought to appreciate and use these gifts of God insofar as they help us toward our goal of loving service and union with God. But insofar as any created things hinder our progress toward our goal, we ought to let them go.” SAINT IGNATIUS OF LOYOLA
