Instructions for Using Office 365 The Business Division departments at CLC have implemented an Office 365 for Education website. As part of this package, students can download Office 365 Pro components on up to five devices. These Office 365 Pro components are part of MS Office 2013 if you are downloading to a Windows based computer or MS Office 2011 if you are downloading to a Mac based computer. The Office 2013 components include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, OneNote, Publisher, Skype for Business, InfoPath, and OneDrive for Business. The Office 2011 components include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Skype for Business with OneNote available as a separate download. At the beginning of a semester, you will be enrolled on the clcillinois365.onmicrosoft.com website if you have not already been enrolled. You will receive an email sent to your student email account, the one ending in @stu.clcillinois.edu. The email will look like the following: -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------June 5, 2015 Business Division Student, You are currently enrolled in a Business Division course for spring so you have been automatically enrolled on the CLC Business Division Office 365 website that permits the download of Office components onto up to 5 different devices. If you have a computer running the Windows 7, the Windows 8, or the Windows 8.1 operating system, you will be able to download the Office 2013 Pro package that provides Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, OneNote, Publisher, Skype for Business, InfoPath, and OneDrive for Business components. If you have a computer running a Mac OS X operating system, you will be able to download the Office 2011 package that provides Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. You can run Office 2013 side by side with an earlier version of Office. If you currently have Office 2013 on your computer, you would need to uninstall your current version before loading the Office 2013 software provided by the CLC Business Division Office 365 site. As long as you are a student, you should be able to use the provided software and site. The Office 365 site expects you to login around once a month to verify that you are active and download any updates. After 90 days without logging in, you are considered inactive. If you forget your password, just request a reset on the site and I will reset your password and send your new temporary password via your student email account. If you use an Apple computer and your course requires only 2013 components, you may be able to still use your home computer if you have Boot Camp, Parallels, or VMware’s Fusion and a licensed MS Windows 7 or Windows 8 operating system. Boot Camp permits a computer to boot into either the Mac OS X operating system or the Windows operating system. Parallels and VMware Fusion provide virtual machine structures that allow you to run Windows as a virtual machine on top of the Mac OS X system. All three options will permit you to install and run Office 2013 Pro components under the Windows operating system. If your course requires use of Microsoft Office components, you must check with your instructor regarding which Office versions are acceptable for your course. If you want to make use of the available Office 365 software, you must register on the CLC Office 365 website by going to portal.microsoftonline.com and using the two pieces of information listed below. Now we are ready to get the Office software. Click the Software item and you will see the screen on the next page. It is strongly suggested that you keep the 32-bit Version. Besides Office, which is automatically selected, you have the Lync, OneDrive, Tools & add-ins, Desktop support, and Phone & tablet options. Lync will automatically be downloaded as part of the Office package. OneDrive is useful if you want to keep your files synced between all your devices. If you have a Mac and are not running Windows in a virtual machine, then you will see just the components that are available to run on your OS X based system. Click the Install button to start the installation of the software.

It took about 20 minutes for the Office components to download and get installed so the following window appeared. Your time will vary based on the Internet connection speed and the hardware you have.

Now you can minimize your Office 365 browser window and examine if the software from Office 365 has been installed. Since I am using a Windows 7 OS in a virtual machine, I already downloaded Office in my base machine, I see the following after clicking the start button and expanding the Office 2013 item.
