Downloading E-books with the Overdrive App Before downloading an e-book, you will need the following: 

A tablet e-reader (Kindle Fire, iPad/iPhone, or other tablet e-readers) 

For NOOK Color and NOOK HD, use the directions in the “How to Download Free E-books for NOOK with the Overdrive App”



For a black and white screen Kindle, use the directions in the “How to Download Free Kindle E-books From the Library” packet.



For all other black and white screen e-readers, use the directions in the “How to Download Free E-books From the Library” packet.



Your library card (if you do not have your library card, call the library at 724-449-2665)



WiFi Internet

Downloading the Overdrive App: 1. Go to where you download apps (The App Store, Google Play Store, Kindle Appstore, etc.) 2. Search for “Overdrive” and locate the Overdrive Media Console App 3. Tap the “Free” button to download and install the Overdrive App

Downloading E-books with the Overdrive App Setting up the Overdrive App: 1. After the Overdrive App downloads and installs, go to your device’s home page and tap the Overdrive icon to open the app

2. When you open the Overdrive app for the first time, a pop-up window will appear asking you to sign in with your Adobe ID. If you do not already have an Adobe ID, tap the “Register at Adobe.com” button.

On the Adobe page, fill out the required information (email address, name, password) Write down your Adobe ID (your email address) and your Adobe ID password Adobe ID: ______________________________ Password: ______________________________ 4. Uncheck the box that says “Stay informed via email about Adobe products and services” 5. Click the “Create” button to create your Adobe ID. Your device will automatically authorize the Overdrive app with your Adobe ID. 6. When your device has completed the authorization process, tap the “Menu” button to return to the home page

11. Tap “Search” to search for the Northern Tier Regional Library 12. The Northern Tier Regional Library will be at the top of the list of libraries. Tap “Northern Tier Regional Library”

Tap the star next to the library name one time to save the Northern Tier Regional Library as your preferred library. The star will turn yellow, this means you have added the library

14. To return to the home page, tap the “Menu” button

Searching for a book: 1. Tap the “Menu” button to begin searching for a book

3. Tap the “Sign in” link

4. Type your library card number in the text box, then tap “Sign In”

In the Search text box, you can type an author or the title of a book to search for a specific book. You can also browse for available books by using the “Advanced Search” feature. Below are instructions on how to search for available books. 6. Underneath the Search text box, tap the “Advanced Search” link

Downloading E-books with the Overdrive App Searching for a book (continued): 7. Tap the “All Subjects” option and select a subject from the drop-down menu (example: Fiction or Biography)

8. Next, tap the “All Formats” option and select EPUB eBook from the drop-down menu NOTE: Always select EPUB eBook if you are looking to download an eBook. If you would like to download an Audiobook, select MP3 Audiobook. Do NOT select Kindle Book, even if you are using a Kindle device.

Downloading E-books with the Overdrive App Searching for a book (continued): 9. Scroll down near the bottom of the page and tap the box next to where it says “Only titles with copies available”

10. Then tap the “Search” button 11. A list of books will display. You can look through the pages of books by clicking the arrows forward and backward.

2. You will be directed to a new page about the book. Tap the “Borrow” button

4. When a drop-down menu appears, click the box next to “Adobe EPUB eBook” format

5. Then click “Confirm & Download” The e-book will begin to download in the Overdrive app. You can check out up to ten books at a time using Overdrive. When the check-out period ends, the book will automatically return itself. You do not need to take any action to return e-books in Overdrive.

Returning a book early: 1. In your bookshelf, press and hold the cover of the book you would like to return. When a menu appears at the bottom of the cover, tap the “Return” button.

Downloading E-books with the Overdrive App Returning a book early (continued): 2. When a menu appears, asking if you are sure you want to return the title, tap “Return”

The book is automatically deleted from the Overdrive app. It has been returned and is no longer on your Overdrive account

Placing a hold on a book: 1. If you search for a book and it is not available, the symbol in the upper right corner of the book will appear light grey instead of black.

3. Type your email address in the text boxes, then tap the “Place a Hold” button

You have placed a hold on an e-book. When the e-book becomes available, you will receive an email. You have three days to borrow the book. If you do not borrow the book in that three day window, the hold will be released to the next patron in line.
