Plant & Seed Drive 9 am Planting Day

Spring is here! The Holy Name Community Garden is beginning it’s 5th year. Since our beginning, through the generous donations of plants and seeds from our parishioners, we have donated over 8,000 pounds of produce to many local organizations: St. Jude House, St. Joseph’s Soup Kitchen, St. Monica’s Home, St. Clare Kitchen and The Cedar Lake Food Bank. During the April 30/May 1st weekend, we will once again host our annual plant and seed drive to stock our garden. Please stop by the back of the Church after Mass to select your donation pledge of seed packets or plants. 100% of our plants are donated by parishioners. Donate a packet of seeds and watch your veggies grow ! Seeds may be dropped off in the designated basket in the back of the church or at the rectory prior to planting day. Please bring live plants directly to the garden on Planting Day, Saturday, May 14, before 9 AM. Planting Day is Saturday May 14th from 9:00 to 10:00 am You don’t have to be an experienced gardener to help. We need volunteers to plant veggies and flowers, stake tomato cages, build plant supports, or just come and watch, relax, supervise, and enjoy the juice, fruit and coffeecakes. SEE YOU THERE !! Any questions, contact Anita Torok 219.374.7341 [email protected]

St. John Bosco (18151888) It is estimated that St. John Bosco assisted and educated over one hundred thousand troubled youth in his oratories. He labored tremendously for them: he devised the first “work schools’” signing the apprenticeship contracts himself; he created the first night and weekend schools; he initiated the first mutual aid societies for workers; and he developed the first “Italian Youth Library,” personally editing 204 small volumes. He even had his own special gallery at the Italian Fair of Industries and Arts held in Turin in 1884, an international exhibition. Everything Don Bosco did for his boys sprang from an inner oath he once made to God. He explained to his boys: “ I promised God that until my last breath I will have lived for my poor young people. I study for you. I work for you; I am also ready to give my life for you. Take note that whatever I am, I have been so entirely for you, day and night, morning and evening, at every moment.”

If you have not yet had the opportunity to make your pledge, please return your envelope to the parish office or place it in the offertory basket at Mass next weekend. Thank you for your faithful stewardship and for giving back according to what you have received from God. Please support the 2016 CSA Campaign. No gift is too small or too large. 2016 CSA Goal for Holy Name is $51,706

Holy Name Prayer Shawl Ministry Please say a prayer for blessing of good health, comfort, peace and faith for those who have recently received Prayer Shawls in the past few months. We also ask you to continue to remember others who received the shawls and lap robes in the past. Some have recovered (and we give thanks!) others are still in need of our prayers and others have found their way to God in peace. If you have a neighbor or family member who is seriously ill, or grieving please take a prayer shawl from the church lobby and add their name to the clip board list so we can continue to pray for them. Shawls and lap robes are also always available in the Parish Office. If you would like to join the group, our next meeting will be on Monday, May 2 at 11 AM in the Conference Room. All are welcome

Holy Name Cemetery

Holy Name Cemetery The Catholic Church has a long and rich tradition of burial rites dating back to its earliest days. The Church buries the bodies of the faithful with great respect and solemn rites because we believe that, in life, the body is the temple of the Holy Spirit and is therefore a sacred vessel. In our Catholic cemetery, we, the living members of the Church, gather to pray for those who have gone before us and to reflect on the promise of the resurrection of the body and life everlasting. New Columbaria and meditation area on North side of Cemetery

Holy Name Cemetery meets the needs of individuals and families before and after the death of a loved one. In providing a consecrated place for burial, we treat the human body with dignity and respect, and offer a space in which love is remembered and faith is awakened and strengthened. We are blessed to have a beautiful cemetery here at Holy Name. This quiet place provides the perfect setting for prayer, meditation or just a peaceful walk. We have recently added four additional columbaria to provide space for the interment of ashes of our loved ones. For information on the columbaria as well as traditional burial spaces call the Parish Office 232-2720.
