CORPUS CHRISTI  June 18, 2017

TRUST IN JESUS Today’s feast celebrates another central mystery of our faith—the mystery of the Eucharist. Like the mystery of the Trinity, the real presence of the Body and Blood of Christ in the Eucharist can never be fully understood, but can only be believed. Just as the Israelites in the desert were invited to put their trust in God’s word to them, we are invited to trust wholly in the word of Jesus. In today’s Gospel Jesus promises to give us a share in his very own flesh and blood, and a share in eternal life besides. We are called to take him at his word and open our hearts to receive true nourishment and life from our participation in the Eucharist. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

Dear Parishioners, Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers, grandfathers, godfathers, stepfathers, uncles, and big brothers and all those men of the parish who exert a paternal influence over someone. May St. Joseph, a model foster father, watch over all of you. Today, the Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ, which is more commonly known as Corpus Christi. Since Holy Thursday, the day on which Christ gave us His sacramental presence, occurs within Holy Week, the Church has a more joyful celebration at this time. We will have a procession around the parish block immediately following the 12:00pm mass today. Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament will take place at the entrance to the friary, at the entrance to Holy Angels Academy, and in Church. All are welcome. Our 125th Anniversary Committee has been meeting faithfully and ticket sales for the Gala Celebration at Gargiulo’s Restaurant are going well. Tickets can be reserved by calling the rectory. The Committee will also sponsor an Anniversary Journal which will contain newly researched history of the parish as well as ads from well-wishers and our friends in the business world. If you know of former parishioners who may want to be a part of our anniversary celebration you may spread the word about the journal, the Gala at Gargiulo’s Restaurant on September 17th, and the closing Anniversary Mass with Bishop DiMarzio on Sunday, September 24th at 12:00pm, followed by a general reception in the gym. Lastly, congratulations to the officers and members of the Leisure Club who will conclude another successful year on Thursday of this week. We look forward to their return in September.

Let’s pray for each other, Msgr. Kevin B. Noone
