FROM  THE  CEO Dear  Friends  and  Supporters: The   start   of   the   2011-­2012   academic   year   marked   a   PRPHQWRIH[FLWLQJWUDQVLWLRQ,QWKLVSDVW\HDUZHGRXEOHG WKH QXPEHU RI RXWVWDQGLQJ \RXQJ OHDGHUV ZRUNLQJ ZLWK underserved  children  throughout  Yunnan  and  Guangdong.   By  expanding  to  place  Fellows  in  a  new  province,  we  have   demonstrated  Teach  For  China’s  potential  to  impact  low-­ income  communities  throughout  China.   Throughout   the   past   school   year,   our   Fellows   have   worked  tirelessly  with  their  students  to  help  redress  the   XQLTXH FKDOOHQJHV WKH\ IDFH JURZLQJ XS LQ ORZLQFRPH FRPPXQLWLHV %\ JRLQJ DERYH DQG EH\RQG WUDGLWLRQDO expectations   these   teachers   have   led   their   students   to   VLJQL¿FDQWDFDGHPLFJDLQVZKLOHDOVRQXUWXULQJWKHVNLOOV character,  and  conviction  necessary  to  succeed  in  China   today.  This  report  details  the  inspiring  results  of  their  hard   work.   2XULPSDFWLQWKHFODVVURRPLVPDGHSRVVLEOHE\FORVH FROODERUDWLRQZLWKQDWLRQDODQGORFDOJRYHUQPHQWDVZHOO as  educators  and  other  stakeholders  in  the  communities   where  our  Fellows  teach.  This  is  essential  to  ensuring  that   our   work   addresses   our   children’s   greatest   needs   and   WKDWRXULPSDFWLVVXVWDLQDEOH7KLV\HDUZHVWUHQJWKHQHG our   relationships   with   key   local   partners   who   share   our   YLVLRQIRULPSURYHGRSSRUWXQLWLHVIRURXUVWXGHQWV:HDUH grateful  for  their  support  in  pursuit  of  our  common  goals.   This  year,  we  are  particularly  excited  to  share  a  growing   ERG\RITXDQWLWDWLYHHYLGHQFHRIVWXGHQWJDLQVUHDOL]HGLQ )HOORZV¶FODVVURRPV:KLOHWKLVHYLGHQFHSURYLGHVFUXFLDO DI¿UPDWLRQ RI RXU ZRUN ZH DOVR NQRZ WKDW TXDQWLWDWLYH measures  cannot  fully  capture  our  goals  for  our  students.   Students  in  Fellows’  classrooms  face  limited  life  choices   EHFDXVH RI ZKHUH WKH\ ZHUH ERUQ 2XU )HOORZV DVSLUH
