INJURIES None 2014-15 MAN GAMES LOST: 116 RECENT TRANSACTIONS Jan. 27 Recalled defenseman Ryan Murphy from Charlotte (AHL) TODAY’S GAME The Carolina Hurricanes clash with the Anaheim Ducks at the Honda Center on Friday (10 p.m. ET, FOX Sports Carolinas, Hurricanes Radio Network). Carolina finished January with a 7-3-2 record after earning one point (3-2 shootout loss vs. STL) in a back-to-back set last weekend. Tuesday’s matchup between the Hurricanes and Pacific Division-leading Ducks is the first of two meetings between the teams in a nine-day stretch as Anaheim will travel to Raleigh for a Feb. 12 tilt. Carolina posted a 1-1-0 record against Anaheim in the 2013-14 season series. HURRICANES STREAKS Brad Malone has points in two straight games: 1/30-1/31, (1g, 1a). Ryan Murphy has points in two straight games: 1/30-1/31, (1g, 1a). HURRICANES MILESTONES WITHIN REACH Brett Bellemore is two games shy of 100 NHL/Hurricanes games played Justin Faulk is two points shy of 100 NHL/Hurricanes points. Jeff Skinner is three assists shy of 100 NHL/Hurricanes assists HURRICANES FIRSTS AND MILESTONES RECENTLY ACHIEVED Tim Gleason skated in his 700th NHL game on Jan. 31, 2015 at NYR FAST FACTS •

Winning January: The Hurricanes erased a two goal deficit to earn a point in a 3-2 shootout loss to St. Louis on Friday in the front half of a back-to-back set. Carolina dropped the back half 4-1 at Madison Square Garden on Saturday. The Hurricanes finished the month of January with a 7-3-2 record, their best month in terms of points earned and winning percentage this season. Last season Carolina posted a 10-4-0 record in the month of January, their second-best January mark and tied for third-best month in franchise history. The Hurricanes’ 10-win month was their first since March 2009.

Cam Sets Record: Cam Ward recorded the longest relief appearance by a goaltender without allowing a goal in NHL history in Friday’s shootout loss to the Blues. Ward entered the game at the 3:25 mark of the first period and recorded 29 saves in the final 61:35 of regulation and overtime as the Hurricanes erased a two-goal deficit to earn a point. The longest previous goalless relief

outing by an NHL goaltender was 60:05 by the Red Wings’ Bob Essensa against Washington on March 25, 1994. •

Killing Spree: The Hurricanes went 1-for-1 on the penalty kill Saturday against the Rangers. Carolina has killed 41 of their last 42 penalties during a 17-game span. Nazim Kadri’s third period extra-man marker on Jan. 19 at Toronto snapped the team’s streak of 36 straight penalties killed across 14 games (12/20-1/19). On Jan. 10, the Hurricanes established a new franchise record of 10 games without allowing a power-play goal when they went 1-for-1 at St. Louis, eclipsing the previous franchise-best nine-game stretch during the 1983-84 season. The Hurricanes rank second in the NHL this season with an 87.5on with an 87.0rnto Tuesday percent penalty-killing percentage. The team has not finished in the top ten in penalty-killing since 2006-07 (7th - 84.6%).

The Rule of Four: Brad Malone scored a goal and Patrick Dwyer notched an assist in Saturday’s loss to the Rangers. The fourth line of Malone, Jay McClement and Patrick Dwyer has now combined for 17 points (6g, 11a) in January. Carolina went 5-1-0 on the month when the fourth line scored a goal. On the season, the Hurricanes are 8-1-0 and 5-1-1 when Dwyer and Malone earn a point,

respectively. Carolina is 6-2-2 when Jay McClement records a point in 2014-15. • Faulk Hits 10: Justin Faulk scored his 10th goal of the season in the first period of Friday’s game against St. Louis. The 22-year old defenseman’s 10 goals marks only the ninth time since the team’s relocation in 1997 that a Hurricanes defenseman has scored 10 or more goals in a season. The South St. Paul, MN, native leads all Hurricanes in assists (19) and time on ice (24:00 per game) and ranks second on the team in scoring (29 points). Faulk leads the Hurricanes and all NHL defensemen in shorthanded goals (2), and ranks in the top 20 among NHL blueliners in goals (T-10th, 10), points (T-18th, 29), game-winning goals (T-2nd, 4), power-play goals (T-5th, 4), shorthanded points (T-2nd, 2) and shots (T-6th, 136). The Captain Keeps Rolling: Hurricanes captain Eric Staal scored a goal, notched an assist and was named the game’s second star in last Tuesday’s win over Tampa Bay. He has now recorded 12 points (9g, 3a) in his last 15 games. Staal netted his 300th NHL/Hurricanes goal at Nashville on Jan. 6. With the goal, Staal became the fourth player drafted from 2001-2014 to score 300 goals (Kovalchuk, Nash and Ovechkin). Staal ranks first in games played (813), points (718), goals (305), assists (413), hat tricks (13), shorthanded goals (16) and power-play goals (102) for the Carolina franchise since relocation.

Take It Away Now: Carolina’s 443 takeaways this season rank second in the NHL. Justin Faulk leads the team with 38 takeaways, tied for third among NHL defensemen. Jeff Skinner has 37 takeaways, tied for 16th in the league. Andrej Sekera ranks fifth among NHL defensemen with 34. Carolina led the NHL in 2013-14 with 785 takeaways, 120 more than the team with the second-most (NY Islanders – 665). The Hurricanes have finished in the top five in the league in takeaways in three of the last four seasons. They were fifth in the NHL in 2010-11 and finished second in 2012-13, behind only the eventual Stanley Cup-champion Chicago Blackhawks.
