They only played on this day one time prior to that stretch (Nov. 28, 1975 at California). • Buffalo has logged a 19-7-3 all-time record in their 29 games played on the day after Thanksgiving, including a 17-6-3 record in home games and a 8-1-1 record since 2003. • The only other meeting between these franchises on the day after Thanksgiving was a 4-2 Hartford win at the Aud on Nov. 27, 1987. STAYING OUT OF TROUBLE • 11 NHL skaters have played at least 20 games without taking a penalty this season. The Sabres are the only team with two players among these 11: Rasmus Ristolainen and Johan Larsson • Both Ristolainen (32 games) and Larsson (25 games) are on the longest penalty-free streaks of their careers. • Ristolainen averages 23:55 of ice time per game. Only two other players with an average above 20 minutes per game have zero penalty minutes this season: Loui Eriksson and Morgan Rielly • Ristolainen is one of just four NHL defensemen (Brian Dumoulin, Morgan Rielly, Matt Tennyson) with at least 15 games played and no penalty minutes. Staal’s 59.3 percent faceoff-win percentage ranks third among NHL skaters who have taken more than 200 faceoffs this season. -- Shooting Gallery: The Carolina Hurricanes rank seventh in the league in shots on goal (673). The Hurricanes have outshot their opponent in 14 of 21 games played, going 4-8-2 in those games. -- Even Better: Carolina forward Jeff Skinner has recorded an even-or-better plus-minus rating in 18 of 22 games played in the 201516 season, including seven of the last nine match-ups. -- Finders Keepers: Hurricanes forward Jeff Skinner’s 26 takeaways rank third among all NHL skaters in total takeaways for 2015-16. FAULK’S STREAK SETS TEAM RECORD With an assist on Jeff Skinner’s goal, Justin Faulk established the longest points streak by a Carolina defenseman since the team’s relocation (11/12-11/25: 3g, 5a). Prior to Faulk’s streak, three Carolina defensemen had recorded six-game points streaks for the Hurricanes. The franchise record for longest points streak by a defenseman was set by Ulf Samuelsson when he earned points in nine straight games for the Hartford Whalers from Jan. 21-Feb. 6, 1988. BRETT CONNECTS Brett Pesce’s first-period tally in Sunday’s game vs. LA was his first career NHL/Hurricanes goal. Pesce scored again in Monday’s 3-2 overtime loss at Philadelphia and now has three points (2g, 3a) in 13 games played for the Hurricanes in 2015-16. Pesce ranks first among all NHL rookie defensemen in takeaways (10). POWER RANGER Justin Faulk’s two second-period power-play goals in Sunday’s game vs. LA were his seventh and eighth of the season. Faulk is now one power-play goal away from tying the record for power-play goals by a Hurricanes defenseman in a season.
