2016-17 SHARKS TEAM NOTES: ROAD ICE ADVANTAGE…The Sharks have won each of the first three contests on this six-game road trip, marking the first time since March 29 – April 5 of last season that the team has won three or more games in a row on the road. The last time San Jose won four or more straight games on the road came from Feb. 28 – March 8 of last season. San Jose last earned three wins on a single road trip from Feb. 16-24 of last season, going 3-1-1 on that five-game trip. Finally, the last time San Jose earned more than three wins on a single road trip came on their record-setting, six-game trip from Nov. 13-22 of last season, when Team Teal went 6-0-0. TOMMY WIN-GOALS…Tommy Wingels has scored the game-winning goal in each of San Jose’s last two games (Nov. 10 at FLA and Nov. 12 at TBL). Prior to Nov. 10’s game at Florida, Wingels had gone 154 games (764 days) since his last game-winning tally, which came on Oct. 8, 2014 at Los Angeles. The two game-winning goals mark Wingels’ second-highest output since a career high seven game-deciding tallies in 2013-14. MAKAROV GETS THE CALL…Former Sharks forward Sergei Makarov was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame on Nov. 14, along with Eric Lindros, Rogie Vachon and Pat Quinn. Makarov played in 123 games for San Jose from 1993-95, posting 92 points (40g52a) in that span. He was a member of the famed “OV” line, with fellow former Sharks Igor Larionov and Johan Garpenlov, and helped Team Teal to its improbable run in the 1994 Stanley Cup Playoffs, dispatching the top-seeded Detroit Red Wings in the first round, and forcing the Toronto Maple Leafs to a Game 7 in the second round. Makarov was acquired by San Jose along with a first round selection (Viktor Kozlov), a second round selection (Ville Peltonen) and a third round selection (Vlastimil Kroupa) in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft from Hartford in exchange for San Jose’s first round selection ( Chris Pronger) in the 1993 draft. Makarov is the fourth former Sharks player to be named to the Hockey Hall of Fame, joining fellow linemate Larionov, defenseman Rob Blake and goaltender Ed Belfour. MONEY IN THE BANC…Sharks forward Kevin Labanc made his NHL debut on Nov. 8 at Washington, becoming the first player drafted in the sixth round from his 2014 NHL Draft class to appear in an NHL contest. Labanc (171st overall) also became one of just six players drafted in the fourth round or later to have made their NHL debuts. PUTTING THE GAME ON ICE…Joe Thornton scored his second empty-net goal of the season on Nov. 8 at Washington. Since the 2014-15 season, Thornton leads the NHL in empty net goals scored (9) during that span.

EXTRA PICKLES…Marc-Edouard Vlasic recorded four game-winning goals in his first 601 career NHL games. He now has five game-winning tallies in his last 151 games, including two this season (courtesy Darin Stephens). BATTLE IN THE CIRCLE…The Sharks have won 50% or more of their faceoffs in six of their last seven games, winning 55%, 59%, 59%, 60%, 57%, and 51% respectively, in those six contests. A big reason for those improved team numbers is Tomas Hertl, who has won 60 of his last 92 draws in that time frame (65.2%). ON TO NOVEMBER…San Jose wrapped up the month of October with a 6-3-0 record, ranking T-5th in the NHL in record, 10th in goals-against (21) and 11th in penalty killing (84.6%). In 2015-16, the Sharks went 5-5-0 in October, T-18th in the league record-wise, while ranking T-19th in goals for (26), and T-10th in goals-against (25). San Jose went on to go 9-4-0 in November of last season, including sweeping a season-high six-game road trip. So far this November, the Sharks have gone 3-3-0, but have won each of the first three games of this six-game road trip. SHOTS, SHOTS, SHOTS…The Sharks enter play tonight ranked first in the NHL in shots allowed per game (25.2 per contest), and have allowed 30 or more shots just twice this season. In addition, the Sharks rank 12th in the league in shots taken per game (30.3). They have outshot their opponents in 11 of their 15 games this season. FOCUS ON THE KILL…After surrendering a power-play goal against in each of the first three games (50.0% PK), San Jose has killed off 30 of its last 31 power plays against (96.8%). The Sharks entered play on Oct. 18 ranked T-29th in penalty killing and currently rank 3rd (89.2%) in that department. San Jose last surrendered a power-play tally on Oct. 20 at Pittsburgh, a span of 10 games without allowing a power-play goal. NOMAD? NO PROBLEM…San Jose finished a brief two-game homestand on Nov. 5, also wrapping a stretch where it played five of six games on home ice (after playing just one of the first six games at home). The Sharks, however, are also in the middle of a stretch where they will play just six of their first 18 games on home ice, including their current six-game, 13-day road trip. BRENT BURNS-ING UP…On Feb. 29, 2016 versus the Montreal Canadiens, Brent Burns scored a goal and two assists to go along with a plus-3 rating. Since that day, the Barrie native has been burning up the score sheets. From that game against Montreal until the end of the 2015-16 regular season, the San Jose defenseman registered seven goals and 17 assists with by a plus-5 rating in 21 games. During the 2016 Stanley Cup playoffs, Brent tallied another seven goals and 17 assists with by a plus-11 rating. In his first 15 games of the 2016-17 season, Burns has produced six goals, eight assists and an even rating. Altogether, “Burnzie” has scored 20 goals, 42 assists, and a plus-16 rating in his last 60 games. In addition to leading all league defensemen in points (14) and goals (6), Burns also leads all NHL skaters in shots on goal (73) so far this season. 2016-17 REAL-TIME STATS LEADERS: CATEGORY
