ALL SAINTS’ SCHOOL 25 May 2016 REFLECTION In the Fading of the Sun

In the fading of the sun, the shortening of the day, the cooling of the air and the lengthening of the night we see the Creator’s hand. In the browning of leaves once green, morning mists, autumn chill, plants that feels frost's first kiss we see the Creator’s hand and give our thanks for our lives on this land. Amen

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT To the Community of All Saints’, Behavioural Expectations at All Saints’ Whenever a large group of people spend time together there will inevitably be occasions when people do not get along. It is how each of us respond in these situations that may result in behaviours, inappropriate language or gestures and attitudes having to be addressed. To help everyone in our School Community to think about how we appropriately engage with one another, the following guidelines/expectations have been developed: At All Saints’ we are to be:  Respectful  Responsible  Safe  A Learner

incidences. We are constantly reminding students to speak-up immediately when an incident happens that requires the help and support of an adult. I ask that you also remind and encourage your own child/children to do this. At present we are also battling an attitude of ‘No Dobbing’. Unfortunately there are some students who believe, or are told, that telling a teacher about something that happened that was ‘bad’ is ‘dobbing’. We go to great lengths to remind students that there are some incidences where they need adult help to deal with the situation. Seeking such assistance is never ‘dobbing’ on a friend. I ask that you sit and talk with your own child/children about this. Boonah Show - 27-28 May A huge thank you to everyone who has volunteered to help with the Show Gates at this year’s Show. Money raised at this event is used to support the endeavours of the School’s P&F. I would like to specifically thank Clare Brandon for her efforts in organising the volunteers to help out on the gates each year. Thank you for all the work that you do for our school community Clare. Bus Travel Once again we would like to remind parents and guardians to inform the Office, with plenty of warning, as to whether or not your daughter/son will or will not be catching the bus. Too many students are turning up without first informing the Office, so their names do not appear on the list.

What this means and what it looks like is unpacked by every teacher in such a way that the students in their class can understand and engage with.

Also, too many students are not1.remembering to inform the teacher on bus duty that they are not catching the bus on that day. Not knowing about these changes makes it very stressful for teachers trying to ensure that everyone is making their way home safely.F

As a staff at All Saints’ , we respond when inappropriate or unacceptable behaviour or language is identified or reported. We are well aware that we cannot be everywhere at once and that we rely on students and parents/guardians informing us of other

District Cross Country Congratulations to all those students who participated in last Fridays District Cross Country event. Some students achieved some outstanding results coming first in their event or placing in the top 5 of their event. Well done and fantastic effort to all those students who competed in this event. Well done! Friday Inter-school Sports Starting Friday June 3, some of the girls in years 5 and 6 will have the opportunity to participate in a number of soccer games between some of the other local state schools. The games will be held over the following Fridays, June 3, 10 and 17. The boys will have an opportunity early in Term 3. Facebook All Saints' Boonah is now on Facebook! We would like to welcome family and friends of the All Saints Community to our new Facebook Page. The purpose of this page is for our school community to share some of our good news stories, school and local events and other general reminders. As with anything, some RULES do apply. Facebook is an interactive and open platform therefore we would like to ask everyone to respect our staff members, students and their families privacy. Whilst we encourage you to comment and tag people to specific posts and notices, we do ask you to refrain from posting any images or full names of the school children (this also includes your own children). If you have any concerns or see anything that may be inappropriate on our page, we do ask that you bring it to the attention of our office team immediately. Our page was created yesterday and a big thank you must go to parent, Eva Judge for her help in implementing our school’s latest form of social communication. Cold and Flu Season We are slowly but surely approaching the season for when people start battling with colds, runny noses, temperatures and the flu. If your daughter/son is feeling unwell, please consider everyone else and not spread any germs unnecessarily. We do have a student at school who has a compromised immune system. We do not want to put her or any other student at risk. Medication sent to school can only be administered with a completed medication form that has been handed in at the Office. Dates: Fri May 27

APRE REPORT

Assembly Our very talented Preppies presented the assembly on Tuesday. They showed a Powerpoint presentation of each one being interviewed and saying how their actions towards others showed they were a child of God. They did this with great confidence and pride. Well done Preps! Next week 1R will present our assembly. Church Feast Days Our Lady Help of Christians feast day fell on Tuesday. She is considered to be the Patroness of Australia. The feast day to her has been celebrated in Australia since 1844 when the infant church in Australia had a special reason for turning to Mary. No priests were sent to the colony in its early days and Mass was not allowed except for one brief year until 1820 so it was largely the praying of the Rosary in those early days that kept the faith alive. Catholic Australia remained faithful to Mary and was the first nation to choose her under the title Help of Christians, as principal Patroness. The Church continues it run of significant feasts with the Feast of Corpus Christi to be celebrated this weekend. The Feast of Corpus Christi, or the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ (as it is often called today), goes back to the 13th century, but it celebrates something far older: the institution of the Sacrament of Holy Communion at the Last Supper. While Holy Thursday is also a celebration of this mystery, the solemn nature of Holy Week, and the focus on Christ's Passion on Good Friday, overshadows that aspect of Holy Thursday. www.catholicism.about.com Sacramental Program—Confirmation Please keep in mind that the Confirmation Sacramental Program will commence after the June school holidays. A letter will be sent home to families with eligible children prior to the end of this term.

McAuley College Beaudesert McCauley College now has a shop front open in Beaudesert at which enquiries for enrolment for 2017, 2018 and beyond can be directed. Contact details are phone 5542 3000 or email [email protected]. All Saints’ will host another information evening to be held in the Fr Ellis Clifford Hall on Monday 13 June at 6pm. All are welcome. Just a thought... Education is not about the filling of an empty bucket, but the lighting of the fire. Best wishes for the week ahead, Karen Winter Uniform As we have had a couple of colder starts to the days, children are coming to school in a variety of winter tops. The correct uniform for winter is the school jacket/long pants which can be purchased from the front office or a plain dark blue fleecy top/long pants. Hoodies are NOT to be worn. Please ensure your child has the correct uniform and that it is labelled clearly with their name.

Newsletter Items Any items or notices for our newsletter should be sent to this email address: [email protected]

Please remind your children that even though the cooler weather is approaching, it is important to still follow the school's Sun Safety policy. Please remember the rule is no hat no play and to always apply sunscreen.

P&F NEWS URGENT - Boonah Show Gates 27th and 28th May WE STILL NEED 3 TIMESLOTS FILLED ON SATURDAY: 2 X 7-8 PM ON MACQUARIE STREET AND 1 X 7-8PM SQUASH COURTS. Please email Clare Brandon ([email protected]) ASAP. Thank you, we appreciate your support.  Fundraising Coordinator The P&F would like to thank Kim Forsyth for her amazing efforts in raising funds for the school. Kim has managed Mother’s and Father’s Day stalls, raffles, bake stalls, donation of prizes and given very generously of her time. Now that her study commitments are increasing Kim has decided to step down as Fundraising Coordinator. Thank you Kim for your time, ideas and energy. They are much appreciated and have raised valuable funds for the students that have been spent on increasing the number of laptops and iPads in the school, replacing data projectors in classrooms, sports equipment, curriculum resources, seating etc.

 Calls for nominations of new Fundraising Coordinators The P&F would like ask anyone interested in taking on the Fundraising Coordinator role to get in touch with Andrew Conway, Clare Brandon, Alan Cant or Cameron Stewart. This is certainly a role that can be shared and two people would be welcomed to the role. The Fundraising Coordinator helps the P&F raise funds to support the students and the school. It adds to the fundraising from the Fete and Tuckshop. For example in 2015 over $25,000 in funds from the P&F contributed to school activities:
