Licensing

Philosophy

All Saints Nursery School, Inc. is licensed to operate by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. Our license is posted in the southeast classroom at the school. We are authorized to serve 45 preschool and 10 school age children (those old enough to have entered Kindergarten) per session. The state laws and rules governing the licensing of this school are kept on file and are available for your review upon request. The center’s licensing record including compliance report forms, complaint investigation reports and evaluation forms from the building and fire departments are available upon request from the ODJFS. The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services toll free number is 1-866-635-3748 for any person to use to report a suspected violation by the center.

Each child at All Saints is accepted as an individual. The staff of trained personnel endeavor to meet the needs of each child. Our school provides a nurturing atmosphere where children can develop physical, intellectual, emotional and social skills that will enable them to make an easy adjustment to Kindergarten and beyond. We feel that preschool is an early step toward responsible, contributing and caring adulthood. We encourage each child to develop these skills at their own rate.

In order to safeguard each child enrolled in this school, it is essential that certain requirements be met and there be full cooperation between the home and the school. 1. Each child must have a medical exam by a licensed physician by the first day of school. The medical form will be kept on file at school. Children’s enrollment and health information are needed by the first day of school for admission. 2. Each child must have had all of the immunizations required by State Statute for admission to school. 3. Upon arrival at school each day, each child will be given a simple health inspection by the teachers. 4. A child with any of the following symptoms will be isolated and discharged to his parent or guardian; 100 degree temperature accompanied by any other sign of illness, diarrhea, severe coughing, difficult or rapid breathing, yellowish skin or eyes, redness of the eyes, obvious discharge matted eyelashes, burning or itching, untreated infected skin patches, unusual spots or rashes, unusually dark urine and/or gray or white stool, stiff neck with elevated temperature, evidence of untreated lice, scabies or other parasitic infestations, Copyright 2002

sore throat or difficulty in swallowing, or vomiting. 5. A child who displays any of the above symptoms should not be sent to school. If a child becomes ill at school, he or she will be isolated. Parents will be contacted to come and take the child home. It is very important that we have parent’s cell phone numbers on file for emergency contact. A child who has been ill may return to school when all symptoms are gone. 6. A communicable disease chart is posted at school on the door of the south east classroom. 7. All parents will be notified by letter or verbally at the car if the children have been exposed to a communicable disease. 8. No medication will be dispensed by the staff. 9. We will care for a mildly ill child, that is one who is experiencing mild cold symptoms or doesn’t feel well but isn’t exhibiting any of the symptoms specified above. A mildly ill child may be cared for in the child’s group, but will be carefully observed for signs of worsening condition.

Discipline The staff at All Saints use positive reinforcement as a discipline technique. The children become familiar with the rules at school and what type of behavior is expected. We find that focusing on the positive and appropriate behavior is a great deterrent to negative and inappropriate behavior. When a child behaves inappropriately, he or she is spoken to privately about the problem and possibly redirected to another area. In repeated cases, we give the child a time-out. When the child has regained self control, the teacher will discuss the problem with him and he may rejoin the group. We set reasonable limits and maintain them consistently. We do not allow abusive language, running, throwing, hitting, biting or other disruptive behavior. On no occasion does a teacher raise her voice or strike a child. Our discipline policy is restricted by rule 5101:2-12-22 of the Administrative Code and applies to all employees of the center.

Each room will have a staff member present at all times. When not possible, a room will be closed. No child is left alone or unsupervised. 3.In case of a general emergency, (loss of power, heat, or water) parents or emergency contacts will be notified to come and pick up the children. In case of an emergency where the school must be evacuated, the children and staff will walk to St Joan of Arc school, the files will be taken and parents or emergency contacts will be instructed to pick up their children at that location. 4. When an illness, accident or injury that requires first aid treatment, a bump or blow to the head, emergency transporting or an unusual or unexpected event which jeopardizes the safety of children or staff, an incident/ injury report will be completed in accordance with rule 5101:2-12-34 of the Administrative Code.
