All Saints’ CE(A) First School

Our School Prospectus

Welcome This prospectus should give you a good idea of what our school is like. More detailed information is included on the enclosed sheets. We hope that this tells you all you need to know. If not, please just call and ask. We are proud of our school and all of us try to be ‘The Best we can Be’ as part of a Christian, caring community. But don’t simply take our word for it – come and see for yourself. We would be delighted to show you around.

From everyone at All Saints’ First School.

Dear Parents,
Thank you for enquiring about All Saints’ C.E. (A) First School. When we moved to Leek and started to look at schools for our daughter we of course were looking for one with an excellent academic record, but equally as important was finding somewhere that felt happy and welcoming, somewhere that looked holistically at the development of the children and recognised the unique contribution that each child brings to the school community. We were lucky, we found all of that at All Saints’. From the moment you walk into the school the atmosphere is warm and friendly and the children are bright and inquisitive. All Saints First School certainly has high academic standards but these are not at the expense of other, less easily measurable qualities such as happiness, security and well-being. From the daily assemblies to the many extra-curricular activities, from the talented and approachable teaching and support team to the strong and effective PTFA (and, I hope, Governing body!), All Saints is very much a community working towards the same goals – producing happy and contented children, each fulfilling their potential, being the best that they can be and ready to move on and progress through the rest of their education. The Christian ethos on which, as a church-aided school, All Saints’ is based underpins this framework and the school maintains close links with All Saints’ Church and the wider church community. I liked it so much I became a governor, I am sure that you and your children will like it too. Yours sincerely, Dr. Darren Price Chair of Governors.

Vision and Values As an integral part of the education system in Leek, All Saints’ First School’s purpose is to develop our children as independent learners, equipping them with academic and social skills based on their individual needs.

Confident Developing confidence is key to becoming a successful

learner. Our children develop an understanding of learning as a journey. Confidence to give new things a go is vital to

developing children as effective learners. We encourage our children and our whole school community, to develop the confidence try out new things, and take risks with their learning.

Respectful All of us try our best to be respectful. We care for and

respect the people around us. That means treating others as we want to be treated, and caring for each others’ feelings.

It also means respecting ourselves. We encourage each other to value our own abilities and support each other to develop self respect.

Role Play in Early Years

Teaching and Learning We put our children at the centre of their own learning and place great emphasis on nurturing skills and and encouraging our school values .

Collaborative learning opportunities.

We believe in making learning inspiring and children inquisitive. Our curriculum develops children’s skills and love of learning by making links between the individual subjects and enabling our children to apply skills and knowledge in a wide range of contexts relevant to them. develop ths skills they need to be effective, enthusiastic learners in the 21st century.

Our curriculum is based on a two year rolling program, which enables all children to access a broad range of activities and topics. Our philosophy is simple. We know our children. If we know what interests and enthuses our

children, and we know where they are within their learning and what skills they have grasped, then we know what their next steps are. Lessons are planned around these next steps, and we differentiate learning to match the needs of the children within our classes. Our talented teaching staff are supported by qualified and experienced teaching support staff who, along with the teachers, support children within classrooms, and also help to deliver planned and targeted intervention programs to children who would benefit from additional support in specific areas of the curriculum.

We enjoy taking part in community activities such as singing carols at Britannia, or enjoying the

harvest festival at our local church.

Our school is part of a wider community, which we value very

much. We are a family. We care for each other and believe that

together we can be the best we can be. Parents and carers are welcome in school. We have SHINE Days every year, where all parents and carers can come in and learn with the children.

We have a fantastic PTFA, which help us not only to provide

extra enrichment opportunities for our children, but also

arrange fantastic events to bring our community together. Our church is very much part of our school community. The

church community support us every week, through assemblies and clubs.

Strong links with our church support us in

developing the children’s understanding of the

world around them. Learning about Baptism in the church was a powerful learning experience.

All Saints’ Kids Club All Saints’ Kids Club was set up as a non-profit making service for working parents. It provides extended school services

before and after school in our purpose built community building. Kids Club is open from 7.30am to 9am, and 3.30pm until

6pm during term time. In addition, the club provides a holiday

club provision during the school holidays, open from 7.30am until 6pm.

All Saints’ Kids Club and All Saints’ School work together in

partnership to provide wraparound provision to allow Nursery age children extend their 15 hours within the Nursery setting, should parents wish.

Please contact the Kids Club for more information.

Outdoor Facilities We are very lucky to have lots of space around our school. The younger and older children have their own playgrounds. Midway between them is the administration block. We have big playing fields, a sensory garden and two outside classrooms, which are used as learning and social spaces. In addition to our sensory garden we have a horticultural garden, where we grow everything from flowers to vegetables. We also have and outside timber trail and our own pirate ship.

Indoor Facilities Our classrooms are spacious and allow children to learn in a variety of ways. We have a dedicated Computer suite, which is used by children throughout our school. Other multi-media facilities include interactive white boards in each classroom and a lighting and sound and video system in our School Hall which also acts as a computer and DVD projector. We have our own school kitchen, which cooks hot meals on site every day. All children have access to class sets of iPads, which they love to use creatively across the curriculum.
