ALL SAINTS’ SCHOOL

REFLECTION

Cementing in some ‘totems’ to display some Year 6 art work; Creating a raised garden bed on the Frank St oval (the second bed will be built over this weekend).

Prayer for eternal rest

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

A huge thank you to all those who were able to attend: your involvement and participation in events like these help build and strengthen our school community. (As well as helping the place look neat and tidy.)

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT To the Community of All Saints’, Taking out the horse you might have backed, what an incredible story behind the people connected with the winning ‘horse’ in yesterday’s race that stops a nation. The rider was the first female jockey to win the ‘great’ race. Some of the owners openly objected to her riding in the race. Her brother is the strapper and he is a Down Syndrome person. We should never limit ourselves or others and we should never let other people place limits upon us. Student Art Exhibition: Wow! Congratulations to all the students who had some of their art work displayed last Friday. We have some very talented artists within our school. A huge thank you to the staff who helped create the displays to highlight the works of art. Day for Daniel: Thank you to everyone who added a little ‘red’ to their school uniform last Friday. It was a day to support the work of the Daniel Morcombe Foundation. World Teacher’s Day: Thank you to the P&F for providing the staff with a cake to celebrate this event. I hope everyone was able to relay a positive teacher story with their children. School Working Bee: Approximately 8 families were able to attend our working bee last Saturday. Still this small team were able to complete the following tasks:    

Trimming branches; Cleaning out some gutters; A number of rubbish tip runs; Laying an edge to the front garden bed;

Ballgame Carnival: It was wonderful to see all students having the opportunity to throw, catch or roll a ball as they desperately tried to complete the ‘ballgame’ faster than the other team. Everyone seemed to be having fun and being competitive at the same time. In the end, when all the points were added up there could be only one winning team. That honour went to: Frawley – the Blue House!! What was even better though was that the ‘staff’ team beat the two Year 6 teams that dared to take them on.

APRE REPORT Assembly No assembly was held on Tuesday due to the running of the Melbourne Cup. Hope you had a win! Whole School Mass Our whole school Mass on All Souls’ Day was wonderful. Thank you to all the students for conducting themselves so very respectfully. A special thank you goes to the parents and parishioners who were able to join us. And thanks to Father Peter for celebrating the Eucharist with us on his day off. November in the Church In the Catholic Church, the month of November is dedicated to those who have died and we particularly pray this month for our deceased family and friends. With the exception of the last Sunday, November falls during the liturgical season known as Ordinary Time and is represented by the liturgical colour green. On the last Sunday, which marks the beginning of the Advent season, the liturgical colour changes to purple, representing a time of penance and readiness for the Christmas Season.

Uniform reminders Since returning to school, students have been reminded of the school’s requirement for correct uniform requirements and appropriate hair styles. Correct examples have been modelled to the children on several occasions. All students are expected to have their uniforms clean, tidy and in good repair. For Years 1-6 girls, the formal uniform consists of solid black shoes (leather if possible), ankle white socks, blue shorts and blouse/dress. For Years 1-6 boys, the formal uniform is solid black shoes (leather if possible), ankle grey socks, grey shorts (not cargo shorts) and blue revere collared shirt. Hair for both boys and girls should also be clean and tidy. Hair longer than collar length must be tied back. Extreme hairstyles (Mohawk, shaved sides, colours, etc) which draw attention to the student are not permitted. Thank you for ensuring that your child/ren attend school appropriately attired.

Remembrance Day Remembrance Day will be celebrated on Wednesday 11 November with a liturgy in the morning. Just a thought... Isn't it great to live in the 21st century, where deleting history has become more important than making it.

SCHOOL NEWS The All Saints’ Shooting Star Award There were no Shooting or Shining Star awards handed out this week.

Have a great week Karen Uniforms The remaining newsletters this term will keep parents up to date with school uniform expectations so that everyone can be ready for the start of the new school year. Jewellery This week’s focus is on jewellery. It is preferred that children with pierced ears wear simple plain studs rather than sleepers as sleepers pose an injury risk when playing sport. Children may wear a religious symbol around their neck such as a simple cross or medallion. Children may also choose to wear a watch. All other jewellery should be left at home.

LIBRARY NEWS Overdues Overdue notices were sent home last week. Please check with your child/ren and return all items to the library as soon as possible. We understand items get lost, misplaced or damaged so please pop in, call, write or email me if there are issues so that I may update our records. Library Timetable Also, we’d appreciate your assistance in reminding your child/ren of our ‘no bag, no borrowing’ policy. A large number of children are not prepared for their class library session and are bringing their bags and books on the wrong day or returning bags without their borrowed items. Please refer to the timetable below for this semester’s timetable. MONDAY 2DR 5B

Choir Corner

November 18, 2015 at 6.30 pm combined P&F and Board dinner with reports from P&F and Board Presidents.

25th November School Concert To celebrate the end of another school year the P&F will be providing home baking, chips, lollies and non-alcoholic drinks at the All Saints’ Concert from 5.00 pm. We will not be providing hot food/meals this year due to the timing of the event. If you would like to donate some yummy home baking please bring it along on the night or the afternoon of 25th November. Thanks in advance.

Term 4 Week 5 2015 Choir rehearsal went well again today with extra practice happening on all the songs we will be singing for Blue Care residents next week. The note for permission to attend this event went home with the choir members today – you really must remember to bring your note back to school or else you won’t be able to come to Blue Care and sing on the 10th of November.

Tuckshop Co-Convenor Needed We have an opportunity for someone to take on the role of Co-convenor of the Tuckshop? This role will provide you with skills in food preparation, ordering from wholesalers, volunteer management, catering and customer service.

Mrs Caryn Eastman [email protected] All Saints Choir Director B.Ed., DipMus.T., Dip.T., ATCL, LTCL, A.Mus.TCL, A.Mus.A.

If you have any P&F matters you would like to discuss, please do not hesitate to send Andrew Conway an email.

P&F NEWS Working Bee Thanks Thank you to those parents that helped out at the Term 4 working bee. Thanks to the organisation of Shane we managed to put in some display poles for the Year 6 artwork, put a garden edge around the front gate garden, trim branches, remove weeds and set up one of the Year 1 garden beds on Frank Street. Thank you to all those who donated their time, and most importantly their skills on Saturday. It is great to see some of our projects getting completed. Additional P&F Meeting – 11 November As there are only two meetings scheduled for Term 4 and one of these is a combined dinner the P&F decided to schedule an additional meeting prior to the final meeting for the year. The dates and details of the next two meetings will be:  November 11, 2015 at 7pm in the school library, matters to be discussed are, finalising a date for 2016 Fete, plans for end of year Concert, final budget for the year, final discussions about 2016 booklist, schedule of P&F meetings for 2016.

Els Forde is our current Convenor and has run the Tuckshop very successfully this year. Els has identified the need for a Co-convenor as a necessity for operating in 2016. Two convenors will mean the role is shared equally and two people will learn about running the Tuckshop which contributes significant funds to the P&F. Please consider this opportunity and contact Els, Andrew Conway or Clare Brandon if you would like to find out more about this role.

Thank you. Andrew Conway P&F President [email protected] OFFICE NEWS Newsletter & SMS

NOTICES All Saints School Instrumental Program 2016 Piano/Keyboard lessons

I will be offering piano and keyboard lesson in 2016 at All Saints’ School for children from Prep to Grade 6. The lessons will be available as both group and individual lessons. The materials include book, CD for practising and flashcards to revise the concepts taught each week. For students who make good progress, exams will also be available in both modern and classical styles, and I will be able to organise an examiner to come to Boonah as long as we have three hours of examining each year. If you would like an information pack please contact me at [email protected] From Caryn Eastman B.Ed., Dip.T., DipMus.T., ATCL. LTCL. A.Mus.A., A.MusTCL.

All Saints School Instrumental Program 2016 Guitar lessons

I will be offering guitar lessons in 2016 at All Saints School for children from Prep to Grade 6. The lessons will be available as both group and individual lessons. The lessons will be held weekly during school hours. Lessons will be available on classical, Acoustic, steel strung and electric guitars. I work very hard to make the lessons both fun and inspiring for the children and use a contemporary program that has a book with CD for practice, a writing book “Notespeller” to enhance the learning of music theory and flashcards to play fun games with to help learn the concepts that are being taught on the guitar. For students who make good progress exams will also be available in both modern and classical styles, and I will be able to organise an examiner to come to Boonah as long as we have three hours of examining each year. I have developed a program for Preps and Grade One aged children that uses colour strings to teach the playing of the instrument and makes learning the guitar possible for the younger children with a successful and fun outcome.
