From Our Pastor/De Nuestro Párroco Good People of Holy Cross, Jesus reminds us to read the “signs of the times.” When we see dark clouds gathering in the sky, we know it will rain. We know when our cars begin making strange sounds or our houses creak or other things in our homes blip and zip, that something is just not working correctly and needs fixing! Jesus gives us grace and strength to read the signs of our lives, of our families, our church, our world, especially when they require fixing. Saint Paul gives us an answer as to how to fix things that are not working properly. Paul writes to us from prison, sometime before he is put to death for being a Christian. He urges us to “live in a manner worthy of the calling we have received.” How to do that? “There is ONE Lord, ONE faith, ONE baptism, ONE God and Father of us all…” For Paul, Unity in Christ is his most consistent and dominant theme that runs through all his letters. Only with, in, by, and through Jesus is anything possible. If we want things to go well, we have to be ONE: unified, connected, in sync. At every wedding, I have a bit of advice and a wish for the couple. I tell them that the two don’t just become one, but three become one. If the couple keeps Jesus firmly in the midst of them, they can be assured of many holy, healthy, and happy years together. That works for everything else too. If your family is out of sync, PUT JESUS IN THE MIDDLE; If you’re having problems at work or school, PUT JESUS IN THE MIDDLE; If your life seems out of whack, PUT JESUS IN THE MIDDLE; If you’re having trouble with the same sins, lifestyle, PUT JESUS IN THE MIDDLE. Jesus connected to your hands, heart, eyes, ears, mouth and feet will insure that everything works properly. Can you imagine what our lives, our parishes, our country, our world would be like if we all PUT JESUS IN THE MIDDLE? Try it today and see what happens. Today we celebrate the gift of Holy Orders in our church. We priests of Holy Cross are so very grateful for your devotion, prayerful support, and all the ways you inspire us with your faith and goodness.

Gente Buena de Holy Cross, Jesús nos recuerda leer los "signos de los tiempos." Cuando vemos las nubes oscuras juntarse en el cielo, sabemos que va a llover. Sabemos que cuando nuestros coches comienzan a hacer sonidos extraños o nuestras casas crujen u otras cosas en nuestros hogares parpadean y suenan, entonces algo no está funcionando correctamente y necesita ser reparado! Jesús nos da la gracia y la fuerza para leer los signos de nuestras vidas, de nuestras familias, nuestra iglesia, nuestro mundo, especialmente cuando se requiere reparación. San Pablo nos da una respuesta en cuanto a la manera de arreglar las cosas que no están funcionando correctamente. Pablo nos escribe desde la prisión, en algún momento antes de ser sometido a la muerte por ser Cristiano. Él nos insta a "vivir de una manera digna de la vocación que hemos recibido." ¿Cómo hacer eso? "Hay UN Señor, UNA fe, UN bautismo, UN Dios y Padre de todos nosotros ..." Para Pablo, la unidad en Cristo es el tema más consistente y dominante que recorre a través de todas sus cartas. Sólo con, en, por, y a través de Jesús cualquier cosa es posible. Si queremos que las cosas vayan bien, tenemos que ser UNO: unificado, conectado, en sincronía. En todas las bodas, doy un poco de asesoramiento y un deseo a la pareja, les digo que los dos no simplemente se convierten en uno, sino que tres se convierten en uno. Si la pareja mantiene firmemente a Jesús en medio de ellos, pueden tener la seguridad de muchos años santos, sanos y felices juntos. Eso funciona para todo lo demás también. Si tu familia está fuera de sincronización, pon A JESÚS EN EL CENTRO. Si estás teniendo problemas en el trabajo o en la escuela, PON A JESÚS EN EL CENTRO. Si tu vida parece fuera de control, PON A JESÚS EN EL CENTRO. Si usted está teniendo problemas con los mismos pecados, estilo de vida, PON A JESÚS EN EL CENTRO. Jesús, conectado a tus manos, corazón, ojos, oídos, boca y pies se asegurará de que todo funcione correctamente. ¿Se imaginan lo que nuestras vidas, nuestras parroquias, nuestro país, nuestro mundo serían si todos PUSIÉRAMOS A JESÚS EN EL CENTRO? Sacraments Baptism Under 6 Years of Age Parents are required to be members of the parish for at least six months and are required to complete a preparation program. NEXT CLASS WILL BE NOVEMBER 19th AT 9AM. Call the parish office to reserve a space in the Baptism class, held quarterly. Baptisms are celebrated on the third Saturday of the month at 11:00 am. (No baptisms during Lent) Marriage: This sacrament requires completion of a marriage preparation program (generally five to six months in length), as well as other notifications. You must also be a registered member of the church for three months before securing a calendar date for your wedding. Please contact the parish office for more information. Anointing of the Sick: Parishioners must notify the parish office to receive a communion visitation or anointing by a priest in the home or hospital.

Priesthood Sunday Today, Oct. 30, Catholic parishes throughout the United States will show support for their priests with prayer, celebration and dialogue. The last Sunday of October is designated annually as Priesthood Sunday, a day set aside as a special reminder to us all of the importance of honoring and showing our appreciation to our priests. Our priests are there for us during some of the most important events of our lives: the baptism of our children, our marriages, the passing of a loved one, just to name a few. As our spiritual shepherds they have what is probably the most important job – to lead us in the celebration of our Catholic faith in the Mass as well as in the celebration of the other sacraments, and to help form us spiritually so that we may grow in holiness and faithfulness. While October 30 is set aside as a special day to appreciate our priests, we can honor and appreciate our priests any day of the year in our own ways. Here are some ideas of how YOU can show your appreciation to our priests of Holy Cross: — Pray the “Pray for Priests” prayer daily – or as often as you are able. Affirming, supporting and encouraging our priests are some of the most important things that we can do as Catholics. Faith in Families—Vantage Point Hikers backpack over crags and gorges. Mountain climbers ascend heights so great they must bring oxygen to survive. Astronauts strap themselves to thousands of pounds of explosives and launch themselves into orbit around the planet. Though different in scope and scale, all of these individuals seek one common thing--a new vantage point. Whether from the head waters of a mighty river, the peak of a lofty mountain, or the black, star-studded sky of the universe, height provides a new vista. Things look different, and individuals experience the world and themselves in a new light. Returning from such heights, these individuals tell others how their lives have been transformed, changed forever by the experience. Zacchaeus, a tax collector, did not have to hike far or climb peaks. His arduous climb was accomplished simply by shimmying up a tree. Short in stature, life had not given him a lofty view, nor did his profession raise him up in the eyes of his neighbors. Spurned by many, detested by more, he did not ascend the heights of popularity. For one who lived in the low esteem of community, Jesus' footfalls portended great change. Zacchaeus wanted to see Jesus. He was searching for something absent from his life, and he was not merely curious--he desired Jesus. Mere curiosity would have led him to push and shove his way through the crowd to catch a glimpse. Desire for the Lord sent him to new heights. Hand over hand, foot over foot, the process of conversion took hold of Zacchaeus. When Jesus looked up he saw not a short man taking advantage of nature, but rather grace meeting opportunity. Summoned to hospitality, the short tax collector rose to the occasion. He rejoiced that he had been asked to serve Jesus. He announced with unusual clarity the fruits of his salvation, a testament to the transformative reality of his new vantage point. Like Zacchaeus we must long for--and act on--each opportunity to behold the Lord. Prayer and service offer us new vantage points, to see more clearly the gift of God in Christ, to learn his mission seeking and saving the lost. We, too, are given the chance to show forth our own fruits of conversion. May we rejoice as we meet the Lord, who has come to seek and save us.
