Progress and Achievement in 8 subjects: English, Maths 3 EBACC subjects 2 sciences and 1 from geography, history, language or computer science or another science 3 other GCSE’s (or equivalent) of which one will be English Literature. EBACC – gaining a grade 5 or higher in all English Baccalaureate subjects.

The options process In year 10 student timetables will be made up of a number of compulsory subjects which meet the statutory requirements of the National Curriculum. These compulsory subjects will make up over half of their timetable.

The options process • Each student will follow an Individual Learning Pathway. • The Option blocks have been carefully designed to offer students the opportunity to select subject preferences from a balanced and varied curriculum. • There are particular restrictions that you need to be aware of when completing your four preferences. • An information booklet has been carefully produced in the hope that it will answer any queries you may have about courses, choices and examinations.

What is the English Baccalaureate? • A performance measure for schools and not a qualification in itself. • Recognises where pupils have secured a grade 5 or higher in: English Mathematics Sciences Humanity: History or Geography A Language (e.g French or Spanish) • RE is NOT included

Compulsory EBACC Pathway • Open to all students. • Compulsory for Set 1 French students (1, 1a & 1b) • Strongly recommended for Set 2 French students. • The government believes that all able students should follow the EBACC. • Academic pathway • May improve students’ chances of going to the top universities in the future.

The options process • All students’ preferences are subject to consultation. • Form tutors will also provide guidance on collection of the option forms and make sure that they are filled in correctly. • Parents are involved in the process too and you must be happy that your child has chosen correctly! • Subject staff will be consulted and will comment on the likely grade and the likely success of your child in that subject. • We will also ask subject staff to recommend pupils for their subjects.

Learning beyond 3.15pm All students in Year 10 and 11 finish school at 4pm at least once a week for their high quality core Physical Education lesson. Students may also have the opportunity to follow GCSE subjects after school such as Panjabi.
